Learning to Lean on God

Learning to Lean on God

My son kept falling so I told him to lean on me. Hi, I’m Renee Swope for Proverbs 31 Ministries.

Our family was snow skiing and ended up on a slope that was way bigger than we expected. My son Andrew, who was 8, kept falling and getting hurt. So, I decide to “ski him down.” I told him to stand in front of me with his skis in between mine and wrap his arms around my elbows. It was crazy and I was terrified, but I wanted to get him down safely.

Well, we finally got to the bottom of the mountain – alive. When I told Andrew I was proud of him for staying focused and keeping his skis straight, he said, “Mom, you did all the work. I just had to lean on you.”

It made me think about how many times I try to do all the work instead of leaning on God and staying dependent on HIM by leaning on His strength and letting Him guide me each day.

    • Thanks Dana for taking time to leave a note. I love hearing from listeners and knowing how God’s speaking into hearts likes yours with encouragement you can apply to your everyday life. So glad you stopped by!

  2. Thank you for sharing this story. I also try too hard to do all the work and cry when I am reminded that it’s not my job to do. I need to let God work his plan as He plans. It’s hard to do sometimes, but that is precisely why I am here on your site, signing up for an online Bible study.

    • It’s not easy is it? We’re just wired to be independent but leaning on Him is such a relief when we let Him carry those burdens that are way to heavy for us to bear – whether it be the unknowns of our future, the struggles in our jobs, marriages, parenting, friendships. So glad you are here to get some encouragement and sign up for our Online Studies. We love having you! Thanks for stopping by Paula!
