Mean Girl

Mean Girl

Do you ever struggle with the mean girl trying to come out? Or the mean mommy or sister or wife? Hi, I’m Lysa TerKeurst with Proverbs 31 Ministries.

Recently my family was packed in the car for more than 20 hours of driving over just a couple of days. I was hoping for a fun time of family bonding. I didn’t plan for my mean mommy to come out, but eventually it did. Afterwards I was so frustrated with my impatience.

But as I was reading my Bible recently I found that Jesus has the perfect plan that involves three attitude shifts of the heart.  His words encourage us to skip the rude comebacks, stop blaming others, and choose to pause and wait before we react.

In other words, deny my selfish instincts, make a decision to change, and follow His leading. And you know, it’s amazing how when I take the time to do this my attitude really does change.

  1. I guess we can all have times when we get angry about something. With me, I can be intimidated by someone who may be bigger than me, especially if they’re taunting me or attemp…ting to bring me down to their own level. My husband, Ron Smith always does his very best to keep me from losing my head with flaring tempers. Living among a large group of people, even being inside and not able to go out to enjoy the weather because it’s been too cold, is the reason why we can all be edgy sometimes. “Jesus has the perfect plan that involves three attitude shifts of the heart: doing my selfish acts, make a decision to change, and follow His leading.”Lysa TerKeurst With God’s help, we can overcome what our flesh wants and do what His will really is for our lives on a deeper level than we’re used to. ~Lysa TerKeurst I ♥ this quote because it shows me that there is always room for making our lives better by placing God first in our lives at all times- whether we’d like to or not.See More

  2. My mean girl surfaced this weekend in my marriage. My marriage has been a roller coaster and my mean girl doesn’t help at all. Sometimes I find it difficult to control my tongue and attitude. I confided in a Godly girlfriend this morn and she opened my eyes. ‘Rely on The Healer & allow Him 2 show love thru u, be receptive to His instruction and take action based on His guidance.’ My struggles stem from a grudge of long ago that festered and grow into a huge weed. I’ve asked the Lord to remove my mean girl and replace her with the Godly woman He wants and desires me to be. All day long I have heard Godly songs and messages that reinforces His word. God shows His GOODNESS ALWAYS but we have to ask Him to allow us to see it! Thanks for this devotion!

    • Rhonda, This brought tears to my eyes! Your cry out to Him and obedience will heal your heart and love will flow from your healed heart to your husband. Love you and proud of you. Proverbs 31
