Sitting at Home, Alone

Sitting at Home, Alone

I felt completely left out.

I was in middle school. I saw these girls that I thought were my friends going to a birthday party, complete with bowling, pizza and a sleepover. But I wasn’t invited.

I tried to tell myself all day that it wasn’t a big deal. But that night I found myself sitting at home. Alone. Thinking about how I wasn’t invited, wasn’t chosen, wasn’t liked.

Here’s what I wish I could have told myself back then, and what I need to remember when negative thoughts creep in today: Don’t put the whole of your identity into the smallness of a situation.

Colossians 2:10 teaches that we have been given fullness in Christ. I can place the wholeness of my identity in that reality and see everything else as small in comparison.
