When God Shows Up

When God Shows Up

It’s so hard for me when my kids feel down. I’ll try to encourage them with a funny story or even cooking their favorite meal. But sometimes nothing helps! Hi, I’m Renee Swope with Proverbs Ministries.

Sometimes nothing helps. Sometimes all God wants me to do is pray and ask Him to be there for ‘em.

I remember when my son Andrew was about 8 years old and he was going through something really rough so I started praying that God would show up in some way to encourage his son’s heart. But what I didn’t know is that Andrew was praying the same thing. One afternoon he was coming home from school and he saw this beautiful white butterfly. He’d never seen anything like it. And when he got home, told me he’d been asking God to do something to show him that He was with him. And for Andrew this was it.

  1. I absolutely love this, mostly because this story is so similar to how God let me know that He was/is with me. For me, it was a bunch of butterflies over a few days in 2012 – bright, colorful and unique ones that I’d never seen before. And then in 2013, the butterflies I saw were the largest I’d ever seen – almost the size of my palm! (And I live in NYC, super uncommon). They would always show up when I was feeling discouraged, down, or doubting myself and I KNOW that God used them to let me know He was right there, restoring me, through all of the disappointment. I have so many other stories like that but God used your story to touch my heart again today, and I just wanted to let you know. :)

    • My husband, Ron Smith and I are trying our very best to make a crazy situation worth dealing with. I know that our answer to our prayers is going to probably come when we’re n…ot expecting it- when we’ve nearly given up on our dream ever coming true at all. God can work miracles in all kinds of mysterious ways when we’re not even paying any attention to what’s happening around us. “It’s so hard for me when my kids feel down. He told me he’d been asking God to do something to show him He was with him. And for Andrew this was it.” ~Renee Swope I can relate to this mom’s story. My husband sometimes has a difficult time making me happy if I’m having a rough day. It’s just the hazards of living among a big amount of people in close range. I ♥ it that I have the best husband that God has given me. “For since the creation of the world, His invisible attributes, His eternal power, and divine desirehave been CLEARLY SEEN being understood through what has been made.”~Proverbs 1:20 Undoubtedly, I know that God makes things happen for a reason. Maybe, the reason he’s putting off on answering the question of whether it’s the right time for me and my husband to relocate is because He feels we may be needed where we are a little longer.

  2. You have blessed us Diandra! Thank you, as well. for your beautiful story! Love, Proverbs 31

  3. Lisa Winters says:

Perfect timing on this post!! My 18 year old, freshman in college son just had his heart broken when his girlfriend broke up with him. I feel helpless to comfort him. But I pray God will comfort him for me.

    • Lisa, Oh! I hate to hear of a broken hearted young man! I know the mother’s heart here quite well. Just know God has him in the palm of His hand and has an AMAZING future for him, no doubt! (Jeremiah 29:11) He TRULY comforts the broken hearted. (Psalms 147:3). Love YOU, Proverbs 31
