Going Through Life’s Valleys

Going Through Life’s Valleys

September 13, 2017

“Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me.” Psalm 23:4a (NLT)

Devotion Graphic

In life, we all certainly like mountaintop experiences better than valleys — the air is clean, the sun is shining, and the view is amazing. But the truth is, we’re going to go through valleys. It’s inevitable. You’ve observed that, haven’t you?

Jesus didn’t want us to be surprised by difficult times, so just before He died on the cross, He warned us, Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows” (John 16:33b, NLT). “You will have …” means it’s not a matter of if; it’s a matter of when.

I’m sure you’ve noticed that you can’t plan valleys or schedule them. Who’s ever had a flat tire or a root canal at a good time?

But be encouraged that valleys are temporary; they do have an end. And valleys have a purpose. God never wastes our pain.

The apostle Peter wrote, There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you must endure many trials for a little while. These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world” (1 Peter 1:6b-7, NLT).

When God assured Moses He would be with him as he led the Israelites to the Promised Land, God said, “I will personally go with you, Moses, and I will give you rest — everything will be fine for you” (Exodus 33:14b, NLT). I love Moses’ reply: “If you don’t personally go with us, don’t make us leave this place” (Exodus 33:15b, NLT). Amen, Moses — that’s exactly how I feel about going to strange, new places too.

What encourages me is that God never asks me to go through a valley alone.

Notice in our key verse that David, the one who wrote Psalm 23, refused to be filled with fear in the dark valleys, because God was with him in a very real and personal way: “Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me.” (Psalm 23:4a)

Earlier in this psalm, David’s comments about God are in the third person — the LORD is my shepherd … He makes me lie down … He leads me… He refreshes my soul … He guides me.

But when David gets to the dark valley, he switches to second person: “for you are with me” (v. 4). That’s oh so personal. It’s as if David sees the darkness ahead, and he reaches out for God’s hand. What a comfort to put our hand in God’s hand, as we take a step into the dark!

Pastor, writer and Bible teacher Andrew Murray once encouraged us to say: “I am here —
1. By God’s appointment.
2. In His keeping.
3. Under His training.
4. For His time.”

Thank You, Lord, for that truth!

Lord, help me keep my eyes on You, not the painful circumstances I’m facing — not on my problem but on Your power. Thank You that You are with me and will never leave me. Here’s my hand. Please hold it tightly. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Hebrews 13:5b, “For God has said, ‘I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.’”(NLT)

2 Corinthians 4:17-18, For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.” (NLT)

  20. There have been so many things in this past year that have gone wrong. I have lost 6 people in my close friends and family in the past year including my father. He was a great man. The most recent death was a suicide. I separated from my husband and moved twice I am now helping my mom. I came here to be a help to here and broke my right foot. I cannot drive for 6-8 weeks so no I am forced to sit here with all of my thoughts. Be still he says. Well ok I am still now so what are you trying to do here? I need some guidance as to where he wants me to be in my life. I have applied for short term disability due to a chronic pain condition and will lose my job of 20 years. I have decided to apply for long term disability as well. What will I do? I have no Idea I just gave it to God. I said here I am use me. I am now learning Spanish through language applications I never took spanish in school just always wanted to learn it. So that is where I am my husband did turn around and is now coming to help me at times but I feel like God is guiding me to do something just don’t know what it is.

    • I meant to note that I thought maybe your book could help guide me through this valley ❤️

    • Oh Joy, your last sentence is key: God is guiding you. And your “something” isn’t one thing. It is an obedient life, which is many things. He’s working on your servant heart (helping your mother) even (especially) as your foot isn’t doing the work. As your foot heals, Joy, don’t stop doing the things God placed before you during this season of rest–your prayers, your encouraging words here.

    • Barb Painter says:

Joy i am sorry you are going through this valley but you are not alone God & other Christians are praying for you to allow this to mold you & make you more of Him. God Bless

    • Thank you, Joy, for sharing your life with us. Thank you, Barb, for praying for Joy too. We need one another in these difficult times in our lives. I’s great you’re using this time to learn Spanish. No doubt, God will use this period in your life to allow you to bless others who are also going through tough times.

  21. I need the grace of God now more than ever as I face another valley in my life. I need the inspiration for this season not only for me but also my children who are old enough to see and understand this valley. May this be a testimony in their lives that we serve a true and living God.

    • Lynn, that’s great that you realize your children are watching you as you go through your valley. You will be a blessing and example to them when they face their valleys some day too. May God encourage you!

“In life, we all certainly like mountaintop experiences better than valleys — the air is clean, the sun is shining, and the view is amazing. But the truth is, we’re going to go through valleys. It’s inevitable.”

That statement is so true. What an amazing view and a deep breath of fresh air to go back and look how far you came from your valley……and yes, valleys are inevitable. I have experienced some tough valleys. I have also experienced some mountaintops that made me want to shout at the top of my lungs to the world how good God is and how he held my hand and literally carried me up that mountain. It reminds me of Isaiah 43: 1-3 which I have used many times to remind me God will always be with me through anything. ~Lisa~

  41. Woke up at 2:30 am and knew I needed to get up and pray for strength for this day! Just read this wonderful devotional! Thank you so much! God does guide and goes before us! So hard to trust sometimes! So thanks for Proverbs 31 devotionals!

I have been in a dark valley with my marriage but praise be to God for faithful prayer warriors who have helped me to be strong and courageous and not be afraid for I know the Lord God is with me. Many are going through dark valleys right now, I thank God that am able to empathize with them and pray for them that they may feel the hand of God and be lifted out of the miry pit. Loved this devotion Darlene! Thank you!

  52. For the last several days, I feel like I have been in a valley and I have felt strangely distant from God, even though with all my heart, my mind, and my soul I know that God has promised to never leave me nor forsake me. I know He is faithful and can be trusted. I’m struggling with understanding the distance I feel and trying very hard to figure out why I feel so distant from the One who created me. I know that I cannot even take a breath unless God is there. I need Him every moment of every day. I know He has a purpose and a plan for me, and He even has a purpose for what I am currently feeling. I am just so longing to be in His presence. When I was young if anything troubled me I would turn to my earthly daddy and he would set me in his lap and hold me tightly until whatever had me upset would suddenly disappear. As a grown woman, I still long for my daddy’s lap, but now I long to be in the lap of my heavenly Daddy and to feel the comfort and protection of His embrace. Please pray for me as I journey through this valley..

    • I understand completely Donna, I am struggling with the same thing. I believe God is calling me to pray for others and right now I am praying for you. I pray that you hear Gods voice and what he is calling you to do. I pray you feel his love and his presence all around you. I pray his grace and mercy blanket you. I pray you feel his unending love, always. Donna never cease reaching out to our Father, he is there. Amen

    • I love this devotional! The honesty of having faith in God, and walking forward with “Godfidence”.. this is why I find cultivating that personal connection to be vital, so we keep our eyes where it serves our highest purpose. And in those moments we find ourselves down.. we can share our worries with our Lord and Savior. Thank you for the reminder!

      That book sounds wonderful!

    • Thank you for sharing so openly, Donna. God IS holding you in His arms right now, even if you can’t “feel” it. You will bless others in times to come. He will not fail you. And thanks to Katharina, Debbie and others who are holding you up in prayer.

  53. I asked God to send me the words I needed this morning… He truly does supply all our needs! Though I have been traveling in way more valleys over the course of several years than I’d like to count, I know that God is carrying me when I can no longer do it myself. My youngest daughter is struggling in a very dark valley right now… I will share this with her today, and would love to have a copy of the book to read and journal to together. Thank you, and God Bless!

The older I get I am able to look back and remember God’s faithfulness to walk with me in the low times of my life. Your book would be such a helpful encouragement and reminder to keep my gaze fixed on the One who walks with me. Thank you.

  116. Thanks for the encouragement today, Darlene!

  117. This devotional has really been a blessing to me this morning. His word says that he will never leave us nor forsake us. We just have to believe it.

  118. Gina morrison says:

Spot on! Amen! I would love a copy of her book.

  119. I laid in bed 2 nights ago and just cried to my husband. I would say I was going through one of those valleys but I remembered that God is with me and he has a plan. I have a beautiful little girl and me being her mama is his plan. But I have wanted more children for so long and after suffering a miscarriage in June it only made that want more strong. Another failed month of trying is what led me to the tears this past week. Last night I prayed and asked God to give me the strength for whatever plan he has for me. This verse was just what I needed to read today; “There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you must endure many trials for a little while. These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold — though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world” (1 Peter 1:6b-7, NLT)

    • Liz-

I’m lifting you in prayer. I am trying to focus on what I have and not what I want. My husband and I have been trying to start a family for 5 years. I had a miscarriage last year and haven’t been able to get pregnant again. We tried to adopt and had two failed placements – one which the agency believes was a scam artist and was never truly pregnant. My heart has been torn to pieces. On top of that, with endometriosis and the miscarriage caused a cyst on my Ovary. They went into remove the cyst and had to take the Ovary too. In the same year, my brother rejected my faith, my Father in Law passed away from cancer as well as my aunt. My valley is so deep that depression and anxiety consume me.

      • Danielle, you have had so many heartaches to deal with! I’m so sorry. Thank you for caring enough to pray for Liz, for you understand how she feels. I hope you have a group of Christian women who will stand with you and pray for you too. Hang on, dear friend. God will not leave you or forsake you.

    • Oh, Liz, my heart aches for you1 I’d like to suggest you look for a Christian support group for women who have had miscarriages. You need others to stand with you and encourage you. I’m so glad to read that Liz is praying for you. Hugs.

  120. Going through a long valley right now and this was a lovely reminder of where my focus should be. I would love to have your devotional book to sustain me during this time.

Sitting at MD Anderson Cancer Center waiting room as I wait for my husband to have an MRI.. Reading this has given me encouragement.. I know God is in control and he will never leave us. He is our constant in times of trouble. I was looking on-line on the way here yesterday for some type of devotion.. I felt the need for a word from God.. It’s only by God’s grace that I can get through each day! Being the sole caregiver for my daughter, and my 90 yo mothers ‘go to’ person for doctors appointments and shopping, leaning on God is my only option.

  137. Wow I loved this devotion. It is very timely with the major disasters – hurricanes Irma and Harvey, all the fires, earth quake in I think in Mexico etc. Also a lot of disturbing situations in our country and Congress needs to work together. Thanks for all of the scripture verses and including Palm 23 that God is with us. liked the quote by Andrew Murray. Thank you.

  138. My husband and I are facing a valley right now. In two weeks he will be losing his job. We are very hurt by what happened but we are trying to stay positive and praying the right job will come along and it will be an even better job than he had. Reading your devotion this morning really helped. Thank you!

    • I am praying for you Michelle, my husband lost his job a year and a half ago. He is currently working for a tenth of what he made before. I know how dark and scary this is for you. I pray that God is working behind the scenes preparing a better job for your husband. Just know God has a great plan for your life.

    • So glad you were helped, Michelle. So glad Debbi is standing with you in prayer, too.

  139. Katherine Baugher says:

  140. Jenna Rogers says:

Through this valley I am going through, I’d really love a copy of this book. This devotional is spot on with what I’m going through. It’s a good reminder that this pain won’t last forever and that the sun will shine again.

  141. Thank you for today’s teaching. It’s always good to be reminded that God will never leave or forsake us. NEVER!!

  142. This devotional is so timely! I am facing the biggest valley I’ve ever faced in my life currently. My daughter has only been given a short amount of time to live and as her caregiver, I’m struggling hard to find peace with it. I would request your prayers as I go through this valley. Your book would be so much comfort to me at this time. I would love a copy.

    • Praying Kim that you find Gods peace and feel his mercy during this dark trial. I pray that God gives you everything you need everyday and that you feel his presence always. God Bless

      • Thank you, Debbie! I need all the prayers I can get right now. This is, by far, the hardest thing I’ve ever dealt with in my life. I lost my sister last year to cancer, for whom I was also the caregiver, and now my daughter. Different cancers, but cancer just the same. I know God can heal and I’m praying if it be his will that he heals my daughter. Oh, how I would love to see that! Thank you again for your prayers and words of encouragement!

    • My heart aches for you, Kim. This is so hard!! Of course, we ask the Lord to heal her. At the same time, we trust that He can carry us through no matter what the answer is. My prayer is that you will sense His presence with you as never before. Let Him hold you in His loving arms.

  143. It seems I have been in the valleys much of my life. The knowledge that the Lord is with me always is the only reason I am still here. This devotional in my inbox today was God reminding me that this long season of darkness is only temporary and he is with me, sustaining me. I pray to dwell on the mountain tops, to breathe the clean air and to pray for others to join me there. Thank you for this….today.

  144. Patricia Williams says:

Yes, please and Thank you ! That would be awesome, just lovely.

  147. Dottie Thomas says:

Your book will help me with my daily walk with Jesus. Thanks & be blessed

  148. Julie Gehring says:

I never realized that psalm 23 changes from third person to second person right in the middle. I love that! It’s like David is reaching right out for God at that moment, and God is right there with him.

  149. Thank you! How comforting are the verses you shared today.

  150. Your words came at a perfect time for me. Thank you.

  151. Thank you for today’s devotion! I have had so many trials in my life and seek God’s peace in all circumstances, so that my relationship with God will not only increase, but that others will be brought to Him and know that they too have a Father they can depend on.

  155. janny holder says:

  156. Jamie Inlow says:

Thank you for this devotional. It helps comfort me knowing and believing the Lord will not leave me during this trying time in my life. My house was flooded by Hurricane Harvey, and we do not have flood insurance. Some days, some minutes I am good; others, I am a mess, but I keep God’s words close to my heart. Thank you for this devotional today. It’s just what I need!!!

    • Praying for you and your family Jamie. I have friends that have lost everything due to hurricane Irma. I could only imagine what you must be going through.

    • Oh, Jamie, I can only imagine how discouraging your situation is right now. Praying God sends those who can and will help you through this hard time.

  157. Thank you for the encouragement!!

  158. Sounds amazing!

  159. I have a friend who is traveling through a valley right now. If I’m chosen to receive a copy of Journey Into Grace, I will be giving it to my dear friend! Today’s devotional was such a blessing to me…thank you!

  160. What a beautiful reminder that while the valleys of life are inevitable we can hold on to God’s hand through to the other side. Thank you so much for sharing this devotional!

  161. There are hills, and valleys and I am not alone…I have learned that and been reminded of it often. Our God never meant us to travel this life alone but to lean on and rely on Him. We just forget this and try to do things ourselves. Thank you for this reminder.

  162. Would love one!

  163. Your blog is exactly what I needed today, for myself battling cancer, and for a dear elderly friend who just lost her husband (David) and is feeling lost. I have been trying to figure out how to help her and will start with sending her this blog and a copy of Psalm 23. I would love to send her your book. Thank you for your inspiration!

  164. Beautiful and timely reminder!

  165. This is what I needed to hear this morning as I am going through many vallies right now. I would love to win a copy of this devotional.

  167. Encouraging this morning. Thank you!

  168. My sister is going through a deep depression as she has had to leave her home and move to my state where she is in an assisted living facility. I try to visit and encourage her daily but it is still a difficult situation. I would love to have this devotional book for her so she can be encouraged and uplifted.

  169. Thank you for this timely devotional that has touched my heart

  170. Karen Catlett says:

I love this, very well worded

  171. Grateful for this reminder–Valleys are real–My heavenly Father is in them with me!!

  172. This is just what I needed to read this morning! thank you

  173. Gloria Eyman says:

“What encourages me is that God never asks me to go through a valley alone.” Love that fact. I wonder how people go through the valley without Him.

  174. I am definitely in a valley right now. Thank you for this devotion, reminding me that God is always there and ready to comfort and care for me, waiting for me to ask Him. My marriage has been rocky from the get go. We’ve been married 19 years. My husband is a recovering alcoholic, who has been sober for a little over 6 years. But he is facing/working on some issues that he has buried and so far it is really damaging our relationship, to the point I don’t know if the marriage will survive. But I am doing my best to trust that God has a plan for us. And He will work it out in His timing, in His way, and with His will. Prayers would be greatly appreciated.

    • Lori-
I just read your post and I am stopping what I am doing to pray
for you. Keep praying and trusting God to strengthen you and help you each day….he hears your prayers and he cares about your every need.

      • Thank you for your prayers! I know He will see us through, whatever His plan for us may be. Trusting in His plan, without having any clue as to where it will lead is the hard part. We have been trying to work towards adopting a child (raising funds, home study, working with an agency). It’s been my heart’s desire to be a mother. And I don’t feel like God would have given me this desire, if He didn’t plan on fulfilling it. But now with the issues we are having in the marriage, I’m not sure where that is going to lead. We are 2 years into the process. I just don’t understand sometimes and am really struggling with depression.

    • Isn’t it good that others are praying for you, too, Lori. God is able!

      • Yes it is Darlene! No matter what God is good. And I’m trying to believe that He has something great planned for us. It’s just been a real struggle trying to keep things afloat. Getting tired of the roller coaster ride sometimes.

  175. Wanda killam says:

This encouragement today with Darlene has touched me deeply ,felt like weeping with every word .The Holy Spirit just quickened my mind through it pouring God’s love into my heart.Very thankful ,it’s a keeper .I believe zI need her book ,Journey Into Grace . This is God’s hand reaching to me .zneeding grace in a big way. What is fun about God is He knows ,Six years ago He put me on a journey of Faith, trying to getting through life ,then He put me on a journey of joy ,now we’re in a valley needing grace . God is awesome .Thankful for Spirit filled children like Darlene .God Bless

  176. Today’s devotional was right on and was very encouraging to me because of what my husband and I are going through this year. We’ve had 5 emergencies between us, and we’re now waiting for additional medical tests to be done on my husband because they found something on a CT scan they did.Thank God I am healthy now and can help him. I’m learning more and more that God can be trusted and that He is my anchor in all of these storms. I’m so grateful for His abiding presence in my life!

  177. Thanks for this devotion this morning. This is absolutely too good to keep to myself, so I am going to share this with my best girlfriend, who at this moment is in the midst of a valley. It is so encouraging to know that all we have to do is reach for His hand. Praise God that we don’t have to go through things alone and without guidance. I’m so thankful for women who are willing to be transparent enough to share what God has done and is doing in their lives. Women who invest in other women’s lives, no matter if that means sharing the good, the bad, and the ugly.. not hiding behind the filter of today’s social media to present a “Mary Poppins, practically perfect in every way” kind of life. I need these women in my life to remind me that it’s okay to be human.. we don’t have to be perfect, because I know a God who is.

  178. I’m about to go on a new part of my journey for my personal and professional life. My mental health and circumstances have made moving forward hard. I’m still deciding my destination, and I’m moving in a couple days! I pray God makes my direction clear and provides what I need to heal and progress so I can glorify Him with my gifts and take care of my health and basic needs.

  179. Thank you for the wonderful reminder that God holds our hand in the valleys. I need him!

  180. God promises to be with us always, but sometimes I forget to stay focused Him and His presence. I’m coming out of a valley now, and I hope that the next one will be easier and I’ll be stronger because it.

  181. I would love a copy of this devotion. I could really use that daily encouragement.

  182. Janice Stevenson says:

Today is such a Heaven sent reminder to me that even though staring at the ravages of cancer feels overwhelming, my God knows me and knows what I need to bring Glory to His name because in His time, I am here. Praise God for Spirit-filled words from our fellow saints as we wait with joy for His appearing!

  183. Thank you for the reminder to look for what God is trying to teach me in the valleys of my life. I am thankful that God is with me, keeping me through it.

  184. Sharon Askey says:

I just happened upon your devotional “Going Through Life’s Valleys” and it spoke volumes to me. I am in the midst of preparing a message for our annual women’s event at the end of October and have felt impressed to share about the mountains and valleys in our lives. This is a fairly new thing for me to do and I believe your book could give me insights and a better understanding of God’s word in these areas to share with other women.
I know whoever God directs you to give this book to will be blessed.

  185. Shelley MacKenzie-Coates says:

today’s devotional really spoke to me, and I loved reading the other comments of folks who are definitely experiencing some valleys. Through it all, we need to trust that God will be with us as we navigate the valleys and the mountains of life.

    • Yes, Shelley, it’s an encouragement to read what others are going through because it puts our problems in perspective. Also, I love reading how others have found God’s grace on their journeys.

  186. Nona DePaul says:

Praise the Lord! I sent this message to a friend to help uplift as this message lifted me. 🙏 🙏 🙏 Amen

  187. Today’s devotional was written for me!! It’s a God thing. But it’s All God, always!!

  188. Beth Thomas says:

So hard to remember that our troubles are only temporary, because when we are in the valleys, it feels like the longest walk.

  189. I would LOVE this devotion. Thank you!!

  190. Such an encouraging reminder to keep our eyes on our Faithful Father and not on our circumstances!! He does not waste anything!! Romans 8: 28

  191. Linda Smith says:

Thank you for your devotion today, the 23rd Psalm is what I am currently reading a book on and it has made my walk with GOD so much more special as I look at how the shepherd cares for his sheep and how GOD looks at us as His sheep and how He loves us and thinks of us and cares for each of us in such an individual way as we all walk the path that GOD has laid before us. I know that I am never alone in the darkest valley, thank you for reminding me that GOD directs my path and He loves me…….
Sending my love and prayers your way,
    Atlantic, North Carolina

  192. Michele Weiss says:

As I continue to grow in my walk with the Lord, I was blessed to be led to Proverbs 31 Ministries, at a time when I am myself in a valley. Not a deep one, compared to so many others. But a valley that has the potential to teach me a great deal about myself and my faith. Thank you for your words today. They resonate with me and remind me that in God’s time, I will come out of the valley and be stronger for it. I would love to win this book to continue on my journey.

  193. Your words resonated with me and I loved it! Right now in my dark valley I’m not sure I can do this for 20 years. I know that God is good and He is there with me, but my knees are week and my heart is broken. Right now I am just praying for the strength and guidance to get through each day. I pray that I can be a little better and stand a little taller. Again thank you for your wonderful words!

  194. This devotional was very timely and poinient for me. I am losing my sight and so the referances to walking in darkness are both figurative and literal, or at least will be. I entered the the devotional writing challenge through Compel and used the Psalm 23;4 and also from 2 Corinthians. Thank you for your words and thoughts.

  195. Just having gone through Irma, and thankfully not like they called for in our area, it gave me lots of time to figure out how to respond to life. From our whole city being without power, gas and food supplies and even still battling those, and us losing power for 36+ hrs, it showed me how to fight fear and attitude. I’m not the best at waiting and to have to wait for days to go through the storm wasn’t easy for me. Then to go through and listen to the wind and watch the trees bend, took me to basic, I will trust in You, when I’m afraid, faith. Life is Life and learning to navigate gracefully is a challenge.

  196. IT is so amazing that I have felt alone in my own thinking, but thanks be to God, he will never leave me alone. I have felt that I was the only one going through a trial, but this devotional has opened my eyes to the fact that this storm will pass. I received such a piece after reading this devotional on Going through Life’s Valley.

  197. I just found these devotionals but already have been enlightened by them. Today is no different! We can always use the reminder that God is with us. It makes all the little things in life seem so much easier to get through.

  198. The key for me is too remember Jesus is right alongside of me, most of the time He is carrying me!
Looking back over my life, He is faithful. He provides! Sometimes I need strength in my journey and sometimes I just need to slow down, rest and listen for His voice!

  199. Carolyn Frazier says:

I would love to have a copy of Journey Into Grace. I really enjoy the devotionals I get each day. Today’s devotional reminded me that valleys are inevitable but I will never be alone because God is always with me. Thank you for the reminder as it seems that is easy to forget when things are tough.

  200. I love this reminder, and need it often in this season!

  201. Barbara Rogers says:

This comes at a good time as right now I am in a valley and struggling to put my faith in God and relinquishing control.

    • Oh, yes, Barbara, don’t we all like to retain control! I’m sure that’s one of the reasons God allows us to go through valleys–because then we realize how much we need Him.

  202. Madeline Bermudez says:

This is the one area in the Christian walk that, to me is the hardest. I know the Lord is always with me but every time I got into a valley my feelings took over and my head knowledge became weak. That’s why devotions and scripture that encourage us get us ready for those times.

  203. I would love a copy of Darlene’s new devotional book. Her post today, “Going Through Life’s Valley’s” reminds me that every day God is with me. It’s so easy to think that I am in this alone but I am not!!! thank you for the opportunity to win Darlene’s book.

  204. Jenny O'Shields says:

Such a great read today, and as always, just what I needed to hear. It’s not always easy to trust in God when things are not going well. This is something I struggle with regularly. Thank you again for these encouraging words today.

  205. Thank you so much for this devotional. I would love a copy of this book to encourage me to always turn to God when I’m entering the valleys.

  206. Such a beautiful illustration and reminder that we are NEVER alone, and God has promised to be with us every step of the way. Thank you for your beautiful words and comfort!

  207. Your words are perfect for my best friend, who is currently going through a bone marrow transplant. She got her stem cells back two days ago, and is facing a critical time when blood counts will drop, she won’t want to eat, and will experience extreme weakness. I will definitely share this with her!

  208. Cindy Whitman says:

Thank you for your Encouragement! It is amazing how daily these devotions speak to me in my circumstance through the power of the holy spirit! I would love a copy of Journey into Grace! It’s only by HIS grace that I can face each day with a thankful heart in spite of the difficulties!
Blessings to you and your ministry through the writing of such books as this!
    Cindy Whitman Harrisburg PA

  209. Shalissa Breeding says:

I would love to win a copy of your book. I am in pharmacy school and have noticed I haven’t been talking to God as much as I should and these devotions have really helped me build back my relationship with God!

  210. Thanks for your insight into our journey through the valley. I have had a personal, life-changing, experience in recent years that has made my faith solid. I know, without a doubt, that God knows me in such a personal way…he knows when we are suffering and he cares! The Holy Spirit was given to us to be our comforter and the giver of peace when we are in need. Prayer is so powerful….we just have to cry out to the Lord. Even when we don’t know the words to pray, he knows our heart cry.

  211. Karen Antle says:

I was brought to tears by this writing. My valley is very wide right now with my husband’s illness…this brought great comfort to me…especially since it reminded me that the 23rd Psalm was the first Bible verse I remember memorizing. Bless you for this.

  212. Angelika Tetzlaff says:

I was sent this devo today on my birthday by a special friend who knew just how much this would speak to me. I wept as I read but was encouraged at the same time, ty. I’ve ‘favorited’ the blog page and off to search where I sign up for devos…but I’m really bad with e-mail, hope there is a FB choice!

  213. Beautiful devotional!

  214. Thank you for your uplifting encouragement today. I really needed it. Sometimes when going through difficult times, we forget we are not alone and there is a purpose in it. Thank you for your great reminder!

  215. Thank you for this devotion today! Sometimes the Valleys are not too deep, but they can be very long! I suppose that is because it takes time for us to really learn no be transformed by the valley experience! But God is faithful and with us always!

  216. Teresa Sala Kuchta says:

Thank you, Darlene. Your message today is perfect timing. I was feeling in a valley today because my husband is having a biopsy this morning, and I couldn’t go with him because I a have a sinus infection and fever. He is always there for me, but I couldn’t be there for him. But I know the Lord is with him. Thank You, Jesus!

    • Yes God is with him and remember that prayer is a weapon and as chime with other believers believe by faith he is covered!!! I know easier said than done. Praying for you and your husband that only good news returns in Jesus name Amen!!

      • Teresa Sala Kuchta says:

Thank you, Andrea, for your prayers and encouragement. My husband is now home and resting–sore–but home! Doctor said we will have results in 3 to 5 days. I am in agreement with you–good news in Jesus name amen.

    • Yes, He is, Teresa. May He strengthen you as you go though this hard time.

      • Teresa Sala Kuchta says:

Thank you, Darlene, for taking the time to reply. I know you have a lot of comments to read through. I know this is off the subject, but your last name, is the same as my maiden name; and I would be interested in knowing if we are possibly related especially since Salas is not a common name.

  217. I am in a hard place and trying to lean on and understand God’s grace in the midst of it all.

  218. What a great devotional, it has really encouraged me. I used to wonder why God would allow me to struggle when I was his daughter and trying to live as his disciple. But as I have grown in Christ I am learning to be glad for the struggle. Jesus never promised me a life that is struggle free once I became his disciple. He did say though that he would be with me through it all.

  219. Powerful scripture reference today reminding me that God will not abandon me…as I attempt to come to terms with parental abandonment as a little girl. Always grateful for how God already worked in your heart to heave this message ready for me at a time when I need it…”here by God’s appointment!” Thanks!

  220. Great devotion this morning! Sounds like a wonderful new book.

  221. Paula Eagleton says:

My husband is a quadriplegic, & I am a mentor to other women whose husbands are newly injured quadriplegics. I will frequently share some of the Proverbs 31 devotionals with them. I believe today’s will be helpful to many. One woman with whom I recently spoke says she is a believer, but does not sound strong in her faith. Do you have a devotional you might recommend that might be encouraging to her?

    • Paula, I think Journey Into Grace would be good for her because there is such a variety in the devotionals in it. Some are for non-believers and others for mature Christians. But they’re based on personal experience. I think she’d relate well.

  222. Marilyn Bucci says:

This book would be great for me in my present state I am in a valley that from more than one circumstance encouragement would help me walk through it!Thank You

I have a very very hard decision to make that will not only impact my life by the lives of my daughters. I know Jesus is with me always, I just need encouraging sometimes and knowing someone else out there uderstands makes it less painful.

  249. Marilyn Becker says:

Thank you for the encouraging word. I’ve been walking a dark valley for over a year now, and encouragement and the reminder that God is with me in the valley, and that it will eventually come to an end are things I need to remind myself of daily. I would LOVE a copy of your book. Books and devotionals have helped sustain me, day by day when the road seems darkest.

  250. I definitely needed to read the devotional this morning. I am going through the toughest, hardest, most painful valley I have ever been through. My marriage and family hangs in the balance and I truly don’t know what is going to happen. It is totally out of my control, but I do know that it is not out of God’s control. I am trusting God with this valley and praying for restoration. I am in that period of waiting and that is the hardest part of the valleys I think. I am leaning on God through it all, He knows my heart.

  251. This daily devotional could not have come at a better time. It was such a beautiful reminder that we shall not fear during our walks in the dark valley as we are guided by god. I recently lost my job and this is a new season for me and my family. This was a wonderful reminder that I am here by God’s appointement, in his keeping, under his training for his time! AMEN!!! Love this!!

  252. Ellen Williams says:

This article spoke to me on a very personal level. I have been going through a deep valley for 6 years and am now climbing to the mountain top!

I know that God has a plan for everyone. It was comforting to hear your words of encouragement today – perfectly timed.
Thank you. I need your book to help me get through the next months.

  257. Marion Da Silva says:

I loved the article written today on GOING THROUGH LIFE”S VALLEYS.It pertained to me as I am in a valley right now. I am moving from my Seniors Home of 10 years to another Home and I am very nervous as I’ve had a lot of good times here at this present Home-friends,meals, events, entertainment, games, care and love. I ask for fervent prayers as I leave and go to another place and transition well to that place.God bless you and if you can send a reply I would appreciate it.Marion

  258. Cheryl Walker says:

Would love a copy of this book. I could learn alot.

  259. Life’s valley’s are quite interesting. We know that there is a darkness but we also know taht light will come. We know that there is still a mountain to come, as well. So thankful that the LORD told us in His Word that he will never leave us nor forsake us. Thank you for sharing this today.

  260. But be encouraged that valleys are temporary; they do have an end. And valleys have a purpose. God never wastes our pain.-I have to remember this and keep my faith. Last November my husband of 33 years blindsided me with divorce papers. I had no clue it was coming. The week later my dad passed. It just seems like my life is in endless turmoil. I still hurt over my marriage ending. He has a older lady friend, he takes to our camper that was to be our retirement.

  261. Thank you for this message. It is hard to remember that the valleys are only temporary and have a purpose. I would love to read your book.

  262. Karin Youngberg says:

Thank you for these words from scripture today! What an encouragement they are today. Some days I just read the intro sentence, delete and move on. Thankful today that my heart spoke to me and said READ THIS!! Holding tightly to His hand.

  263. I really needed to read this today!

    Thank you

  264. Wendy Zomer says:

Thank you for this opportunity to come closer to God through your teaching.

  265. Marie Rudd Gregory says:

God’s timing is so amazing. This morning I was journaling about atheists and faith being tested and was wondering what scripture might be relevant. Then I read this devotion. As I pondered earlier what tips a believer in one direction and an atheist in an another, I explored what I believe to be the crux of the issue – God is almighty and absolutely has the power to eliminate suffering; yet, He doesn’t always intervene. Believers rely on faith to accept that God is just even when we do not understand or like the outcome. Non-believers conclude that any such God must be cruel and unjust. Their “comfort” comes in determining that it is better that there is no God rather than to accept a God who doesn’t conform to their own sense of justice. This concept is especially difficult for me at this time as I am walking in the valley of having lost my 17-year-old daughter. It got me to thinking about how we tend to value things that we must work harder to obtain. How can you know if your faith is genuine, if it has never been tested? Though I wish at times that I was one of those Christians who just always believed and never doubted, that’s not me. I took backroads and side roads; somehow the expressway to faith eluded me. In my darkest hour, however, the choice to hold tightly to my faith was clear. Satan has nothing to offer me in my current journey through grief which ultimately brings me back to my original concern this morning – how do I spread this message to those who do not believe? How do we help a non-believer understand the power of genuine faith? How do we show the non-believer that the hope of eternal life trumps our own sense of fairness here on earth?

    • Marie, they are watching your life–even when you don’t know. Your trust in the Lord is the best testimony of your faith that they can read. Yes, life is not always fair. But God has a purpose in each event He allows us to experience. Others are watching.

  266. Peggy Ozaki says:

It’s so important to remember that the valleys are temporary! Thank you for this inspiring devotion.

  267. So timely as I had a breakdown last night and for the first time I ever remember I was afraid of the dark at 23.

  268. Very timely!

  269. Helen Russell says:

I would love to receive a free copy of Journey Into Grace.

  270. Todays devotion applys to so many as we are all going through something and it is especially hard when we are the one having to go through it. Although we know God is with us, we need prayers, the love and support of fellow believers in Christ Jesus. As I too am going through something this day, I pray for all who have left comments for God’s peace and comfort and His hand upon you always. Take care and God Bless you~

  271. Thank you for this encouraging devotional, Darlene. I found it comforting when I inserted my own name by the phrases in the reflect and respond part. So comforting and encouraging to be reminded that our Lord holds our hand through our darkest valleys…we are never alone❤️

  272. Great read.

  273. Joanna Kearns says:

Disgusted right now we could use this very badly we have and still are going through too much

  274. Thank you for this beautiful devotional. Three weeks ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer brain mets. I was pregnant when I was first diagnosed 3 1/2 years after getting married 4 years ago. I feel so blessed and feel like the hand of our LORD is so upon me. There are many others who are going through valleys that probably need this more than me, I just wanted to thank you for the beautiful devotional. God bless you!!

  275. I lost my husband of 35 years 3 months ago. Yesterday would have been our 36th anniversary. I hope I can get out of this valley. I feel like I climb and then slide back.

    • Dearest Cathy,
I so understated what your going through. This November 1st will be 3 years since losing my husband. We had 37 years of marriage together. I’ve been in those valley’s. It takes time and leaning on God. He’s always there with you, holding you up. I’ll be praying for you.
      In Christ,

    • Grief takes time, Cathy. Don’t rush it. So good that Mare and others are praying for you.Be patient with yourself.

  276. I loved the suggestion she notes by Andrew Murray; the affirming statements. I’m adding them to my journal now!

  277. I love that we walk into grace and peace. We are blessed.

  278. Grace Crapitto says:

I would love to read this and desperately need it as we have lost our house and all belongings with Harvey. I have many to share it with also. We really need this!

  279. Sandra Bacon says:

I ask Jesus not to just hold my hand and walk with me, but please dear Lord, reach for all of those hands stretched out to you belonging to the victims and those suffering from Irma’s wrath. Keep them in your holy grasp, calm their fears, restore their lives and fill them with your grace and peace. Amen

  280. I love the affirmation statements. This is such an encouragement to me, that I’m sharing this with my sister who is going through a tough time. I’m hoping she’ll turn to Jesus and let Him guide her and give her wisdom and peace.

  281. I would love a copy of this book for my own personal journey for grace…

  282. This article has been an answer to my prayer this morning. My husband of 30 years has had multiple affairs and I am coming to grips that it must end. The Truth in your article about God’s presence and provisions as I walk this sorrowful journey has made my heart lighter, has given me hope as I remind myself He is trustworthy and will not change, He is for me so who can be against me. Please pray for me and my 3 boys as we endure for His sake and His testimony.

  283. KAREN DILLON says:

thank you Darlene for your contribution to today’s devotional. I am still sometimes amazed at how God answers my questions or need through others or messages that I hear or read at the right time to help me. I certainly have been in the valley, the darkest time was when I had complete doubt in God, the Bible and almost nonexistent hope. I know now how debilitating that time of despair was. I now know that I must cling to His Word and his promises, for now, over 2 decades later I face a very difficult time of change and low finances. I would love a copy of your devotional book, “Journey into Grace”. I hope to read more of your devotionals through Encouragement for Today at Crosswalk and learn more about your ministry. Thanks again! Karen

  284. The past few months have been a dark valley for me. I have not lost faith and have continued to press into God. He has propped me up when I didn’t think it was possible to stand. He has had the Holy Spirit ispeak to me and provide me with information that has helped me move forward in my healing. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding” has been one of my favorite verses through the difficult period.

  285. Thanks for the encouragement. I really needed to hear this devotional today.

  286. As I read this afternoon I am just grateful hurricane Irma didn’t do more damage.being protected from the tree which fell in the opposite direction. And how frighten I’d become through the howling winds. Now no electricity on day 4.
God has never left me my only question to hI’m is what am I to learn through this process. I believe God ” is teaching me to take this journey gracefully” Thank you Darlene

  287. I needed to especially hear this today because I am going through the darkest valley I have every experienced in my life. My husband has left me and now filed for divorce. This is something I didn’t want at all. Please pray for God’s intervention and for my husbands hardened heart to soften. Please give me strength to move on despite the circumstances and pray that I continue to look up to God instead!

  288. Connie Hatten says:

Such inspiring words of encouragement. As I go through my cancer journey, it is easy to get down. I’m so thankful for my relationship with Jesus as he holds my hand through this process. If I win a copy of this book, I will pass it along after I read it to build someone else up.

  289. This was very encouraging for me. Thank you very much.

  290. Terry Brown says:

I want to be closer to God.

  291. Darlene, Thank you for sharing the truths that our loving Father never leaves us to walk the valleys alone. He never leaves us period. And he doesn’t waste our pain. What a balm and comfort this is to my soul. Thank you.

  292. God knew I needed this! Thanks for sharing. The book would be great!

  293. Thank you so much for this Darlene.
It gave me a new perspective on my thinking, and was so encouraging! I so agree with fixing our eyes on Jesus instead of our problem! He is the only One who can truly meet all our needs, and can answer each prayer, when we are in the midst of trials.
I am going to repeat as often as I need to: I, am here – By your appointment. etc…
Such a comfort to read these truths over and over!
    Bless you!

  294. Katrina Small says:

I want to thank you for these beautiful words. I am in the middle of a personal struggle right now and those words gave me hope that what I am going through right now is only sharpening my relationship with God. It’s hard when you are feeling anxiety to look up, but I look up to him to give me strength to overcome these feelings.

  295. I’m in a relationship valley. I know God is with me. Thank you for reminding me of his sweet precious promises. I would like to win a copy of this book.

  296. Thank you so much for this Truth. I needed reminding of it today! God is good!

  297. While I am not facing any trials at the moment I have a friend who is and this devotion would provide so much hope to her. I would love a copy of journey into grace though as I am always searching for ways and resources to help me deepen my faith journey.

  299. I cannot tell you how deeply I needed to read this. I’ve felt like the valley I’ve been in would never end. I’ve questioned so many things. Thank you so much for this very timely word. I desperately needed it! Thank you. Blessings!!

  300. I’m grateful for your devotional today!! Currently am in a valley of life. I need to remember that God is with me. Prayers please.

  301. Grace seems to be the thing that we are holding onto while reaching out to give to others. Pain can be it’s companion. This devotional has touched me especially with me and special women I know in different stages of pain or grief.

  302. Jo Ann Baswell says:

Have sage 4 cancer metastatic breast to bone…..lost ex husband and still good friend via unexpected heart attack July 30, live alone and prepared apt for hurricane Irma here in broward county, fl in closet for three nights…..and my brother died in Illinois last Saturday, Sept. 9, Irma arrival…..had chemo again today….get every other week infusion…walking in that dark valley..but also trying to remember Jesus is in my boat!!!.

  303. Thank you for the opportunity to win this book. I know it would be a blessing.

  304. Alicia Webster says:

I absolutely loved this, and I am forwarding it on to my husband, who has been in a “valley” for seven years now. My three children and I live in the world of faith, but my husband still clings to the illusion that if he could only do better, be better, work harder, etc. then surely GOD will reward him. I never stop trying to convince him that if he would merely lay his troubles at Jesus’ feet, that he would find the true relief for which he is looking. He thinks that it will be too difficult (too much water under the bridge). But I tell him, invite Jesus in, repent of your sins, ask forgiveness (daily), read scripture, and grow in a relationship with Him. It’s not hard !

    • You’re right, Alicia. But be patient with him. A man wants to take care of his family, and it’s doubly hard on him when he can’t. Let’s see what God will yet do in his life.

  305. Heather Howlett says:

Thank you for the encouragement. God always has a way of using things like this to speak his truth to my soul.

    Great devotional today!

  309. Wow! This devotional was so timely as usual! My husband and I are going through a valley right now. I do know that God will guide us through it, but e every once in a while, I let my emotions control me and I cry, just wanting this situation we are in to be over so badly and move on with our lives. Today’s devotional was such a great reminder for me that God is for me and this valley is only temporary! God is so good!

  310. Sherry J Wright says:

I say psalms 23 every night before going to bed! Just knowing He is there with me keeps me ” not afraid” to go into the valleys! Wonderful devotion/thought for today! Thank you darlene!!

  311. Life has been up and down for me in the 2014. My dad pass away. In the year Oct. 2016 my mom pass away.
I have my good days, I have my bad days. I am still holding on to God hands. I am going back to college. Trying to keep this mind in check. I feel like a baby, just taking baby steps. Lord keep in your comfort. Praise the Lord at all times. AMEN

  312. Oh, how many, many days and nights I have prayed and literally quoted the 23rd Psalm! I am SO grateful for God’s love, mercy, grace and especially His Word, as well as words of encouragement from author’s like Darlene. Those words and God’s everlasting presence are ALL that have helped me through the many valleys over the past few years (physically). Both her parents are battling addiction and it’s a tough situation. I’m trusting in the Lord thru it all, but I have to start anew each day. The Joy of the Lord IS my Strength:)

I have truly enjoyed getting your Daily Devotions. I have been telling myself for years that GOD is the only one that can show me the way, that I need him in my life. I also have a 5yr old son that I talk to about GOD, and I know that it is my responsibility to make sure he learns about our Lord Jesus Christ. Reading your daily devotions has really helped me make it through some days and has pushed me to do what i have known that i should be doing and that is to get back into going to church and living the way that God wants me too. I know that Journey into Grace would help me continue on the right road. Thank You for doing your Daily Devotions. I can honestly say that it was just what I needed.

I would love to win this book. Your wisdom is much appreciated. It is encouraging, inspiring and helps me tremendously in my walk with Christ.

  325. I have been in a valley for over two years now. I have suffered from depression and anxiety since I miscarried in August 2015. Even after I got pregnant again and delivered a beautiful baby girl, my depression has gotten worse instead of better. My baby is almost a year old, and I still struggle.

  326. I have been through a tough time ,i was lost didnt know what to do but i decided to fix my gaze on him with the trust that everything happens for a reason .i remembered this qoute…the will of God will never take you where the grace of God cannot protect you.Because of my circumstances there were times that i would ask If God was really there …watching me suffer but i found myself turning to him no mattter the pain.I came to a point were i said Lord i am putting my problems in your hands…fix me…fix my marriage….fix my life…fix my relationships.I can gladly say i am seeing a positive change in my life and believe it or not my circumstances have made me stronger and closer to God…..I would also love to receive your book but i can see there are some who need it more than i do,esp those that have lost thier loved ones …Lets all keep our gaze fixed at him…in hapiness and sorrow…he will take care of everything

  327. Anne Whitley says:

I love this devotion. I have been walking through a dark valley these last 2 years..I have lost so much and most days I’m full of emotional pain. I read scripture to remind myself that nothing I’m going through is new to this world. Everyone has burdens and pain and no matter what God is with us, holding our hand and waiting for us to turn to Him. I used to struggle in my faith during hard times and sometimes forget to ask God to let me lay my anxiety and burdens on him..and I know through all these trials my faith is going to get stronger! I would love to win the book..it could be such a wonderful help to me. God bless.

  328. Billie Singleton says:

Thank you for this and I believe Jesus is here with me in the valley! Thank you God for this day and everyday. Amen

  329. Thank you for such important encouragement. Just the night before I read in another book a similar message- that God never wastes our hardships and pain. I think that gives us hope and strength to persevere even when it does not make sense to us at the moment.
I would love to study through ”Journey Into Grace” too!

  330. Wow very powerful. So encouraging -So hard to truly believe during the valleys he is there. I get the scripture Lord I believe help my unbelief.
It is easy to go off course when it seems there is a better way instead of waiting on God.
Thank you for the reminder that we have a divine appointment where we are at this very moment, to help us grow in faith and learn and that it is temporary.

  331. This reading has truly touched my heart, calmed and edified me!! Blessings…

  332. Lord please help me to keep my eyes on you during these valleys im going through with my past and my future. This was an inspirational scripture for me today, reminding me of how much God loves me and is always with me no matter how alone I fell. Thank you for your beautiful words today. May God Bless each of you today.

  333. Kevin Clark says:

Through the heartache and pains in life it is encouraging to know that god will care for and love all his children and give us strength to carry on.

  338. Betty Palmer says:

Right now is a difficult time for us, my husband is having unexpected health problems and it is a discouraging time, especially today was for me. My soul was lifted up because of this devotional, I especially appreciated the quote from Andrew Murray. I know God is always near me but sometimes I just forget how close.

    • Ann Margarett Benitez says:

I, Ann Margarett, am here —
      1. By Your appointment.
      2. In Your keeping.
      3. Under Your training.
      4. For Your time.

This is a very timely devotion. I am going through a challenging time at work and at the crossroad of my life where I feel I’m going through rough valleys. The mountain top is still out of my reach. I am reaching out my hand to God to lead me through these valleys. Thank you Lord for Your faithfulness! We should always remember that God’s word + God’s time = God’s best!

    • Yes, Ann, we all need reminding when life gets hard.

    • I’m glad you were encouraged, Betty.

  339. Valleys, yes I have them. But I’m trying to make sure I listen to God as I walk through them. I don’t think I have ever really noticed Exodus 33:14, but in the past week, I’ve seen the verse 3 times….once was here with this devotional. Thankful that God is with me through it all!

  340. Darlene,
Wow! Isn’t that just good news! While so many of us learn the 23rd Psalm often, when we are young, it is as we become older that “living” and resting in the true reality of the Psalm that we find the beauty of what David teaches. Thank you for the reminder of the Psalmist’s switch to first person as he goes through the valley. A reminder that our God is a personal God. The NLT version of this scripture along with the reference to Moses’ answer in Exodus to the Lord when told to “go” spoke to my heart. It is difficult when trials last longer than we feel we have the strength or fortitude to handle. The reminder to “lean hard” was oh, so good! Please pray for me and for my Sister as I support her through what has become a very long medical trial along with the release of a foster child she loved dearly and hoped beyond hope to be able to adopt. It was devastating for her to have to release this young child who she fostered for tow and a half years. My heart aches for her as I support her in times of deep emotional pain along with the multiple surgeries she has had to endure. She will have yet one more surgery in October. I ask that you lift her up. I continue to need refreshing as I support her in these times. Thank you for this devotion. I will forward it to her. I trust I will win one of the copies of your book. Blessings to you as you encourage others.

    • It’s so good you are there for your sister. I stopped and prayed for as she faces another surgery next month. And for you that you have the strength to support her through it all.

Love this devotion on trials, it was exactly what I needed to hear. Thank you for the encouragement.

  342. Darlene, thank you for your encouraging and truth-telling message. I’ve been walking through a serious “health” issue with my precious sister for 3 months. Your words are like an “anointing oil” for me and will be for Cheryl, too. Bless you!

  343. My heart is heavy this morning but I think God used you as a mouthpiece for things I needed to hear. Thanks

  344. Megan Keeley says:

    I really enjoyed this devotional.

  345. Darline Cunningham says:

What a wonderful devotion! A number of years ago my Secret Sister gave me your devotional Encouraging Words for Women, A Weekly Dose of God’s Care and Provision. I have about memorized all all the devotions, but still find Jesus teaching me in each of them. Those devotions have helped me walk through many storms, including the death of my son at age 40, but have also helped me to choose joy in life. Darlene, thank you for sharing Jesus with me and countless others! To God be all glory for using you in a mighty way! Bless you!

    • How special, Darline, that you shared that. It had to be so difficult when you lost your son. What would we do without Jesus with us during the hard times! We almost have identical names!

  346. Good morning. I am currently in somewhat of a valley but when I read things like this and am reminded that I am not alone and that God is in control of the outcome it doesn’t even seem so much like a valley. Rather an opportunity to experience God’s grace and faithfulness as a new believer. Thank you

  347. Would love to share the journey.

  348. Thank you for the most encouraging words. Yes, I too would like to receive this book, but even if I don’t I appreciate the fact you are reaching out to those of us who need a spiritual drink of water. We ourselves can drink deeply from the “Word of God” and find satisfaction and comfort to our thirsty souls.

  349. Your article reminds me that I am, indeed, Jesus’s girl – even at 59! He cares for me and hears my prayers even when only my heart can speak. No dark valley is too deep or dark for a love like His. Thank you!

  350. Darlene, I needed to be reminded of this today, thank you for your words. Thank you God for this ministry!

  351. Jamie McQuiston says:

Thanks so so much for today’s teaching, it has surly blessed me. I would love a chance to be entered to receive a copy of your devotion.

  352. Melissa Mudd says:

This is exactly what I needed to hear today!! Your words resonate with me so well.Thank you!

  353. I am going thru the valley, not going to stay in the storm to long. I was a caregiver for mom. My Nana pass away in Oct 28,2016. I have decided to return back to college. I have been out of school for so long. Everything seems to be different. A mind is a terrible thing waste. Before returning back to school, I had to talk to the Lord. I prayed as ask the Lord for direction. It may take me longer, I am not going to give up, press forward, stay focus.. Stay in pray. AMEN

  354. Thank you for this devotional. It was exactly what I needed this evening. I recently lost our 15 week baby boy via miscarriage and have been really struggling with it today. Lossing Samuel has been hard but it has definitely drawn me closer to my Saviour. He has a plan and He is walking with me through this valley. Thank you for reminding me of that. God is so good!

  355. My only 24yr old Son (that i was a single parent of his whole life) just got married, after being with her for 7yrs and 2 amazing boys (my Grandson’s) later. I love her, but feel i have lost my son! They are upset with me right now because they feel their being disrespected because i want to see them more, but they don’t have time for me and I’m all alone! So much more to it, but bottom line is….God restore and heal OUR relationship as ONE family and make peace and forgiveness in all of our hearts, to move forward healthy! I’ve been so supportive to them over 7yrs and now i feel judged and irrelevant now and it hurts.

  356. This sounds really good!

  357. I’ve recently been going through the valley with my own health. Sometimes we don’t realize how fortunate we are to have good health until we no longer have it. The Lord has been beside me to carry me through it, though. For that I am thankful!
Recently I had this thought: In order to see God’s great power, sometimes we have to endure the scary walks in the valley. Otherwise, we won’t appreciate the view from the mountaintop!
    God Bless!

  358. Thank you for this devotion. I know so many people who would benefit from this book. It seems as though everyone I know is struggling. Would love to pass around a copy of this book thank you
