I Will Always Love You

I Will Always Love You

February 10, 2016

“Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! His faithful love endures forever.” 1 Chronicles 16:34 (NLT)

It’d been one of those weeks. Every time I turned around, my precious little toddler had gotten into something else. The dirty laundry hadn’t moved from the hallway in days. And my baby wouldn’t go down for his nap.

As quietly as possible, I tried to rock him to sleep for the umpteenth time, but my 3-year-old daughter kept coming in the nursery with markers in her hand. With frustration in my voice, I told her once and for all to go to her room and I would color with her later. She obeyed and marched her tiny feet straight to her bedroom. But she didn’t wait for me to color.

After the baby finally fell asleep, I headed to Blaire’s room. As I opened the door, I stepped on the masterpiece she had been creating. Her frustrations with me were illustrated all over the carpet in her favorite purple marker. (Yes, this is when I learned to have only washable markers in our home.)

I wish I could say I was as “slow to anger” as Christ is with me. But my voice and words were harsh. Blaire began to cry uncontrollably and I put myself in time-out.

After a little while Blaire found me. Still short of breath from her crying, she asked a very sad question: “Do you still love me?”

Her question caused me to reflect on the magnitude of God’s enduring love. I was able to respond to her the same way my heavenly Father responds to me, “There is nothing you can do that would make me stop loving you. I will always love you.”

Have you ever thought about the magnitude of God’s enduring love? 1 Chronicles 16:34 records this amazing truth: “Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! His faithful love endures forever.”

For years, I never really considered what that meant. I knew God loved me, but the fact that His love endures forever was hard to comprehend. Nothing we do will make Him love us more or love us less.

As a mother, I’ve endured sleepless nights, cranky kids and the daily building of tents. When compared to what God’s love endures for me though, I stand amazed!

  • His love died for you and me while we were still sinners.
  • His love grants us mercy when we stray from His ways.
  • His love overcomes our fears and doubts.
  • His love never leaves us nor forsakes us.
  • His love makes a place for us to spend eternity with Him.

How can He love like that? Because He is God and only God is capable of such love. The first half of 1 Chronicles 16:34 tells us to “give thanks to the LORD, for he is good!” Let’s do that today!

Lord, thank You for your steadfast and enduring love. Help me to love others the way You love me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Psalm 63:3, “Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you.” (ESV)

Psalm 138:8, “The LORD will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O LORD, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of your hands.” (ESV)

  1. Enduring love

What a tall tall order….which truly reaches to the sky and on into heaven.

Thank you for the challenge to both think of who on God’s earthly kingdom has shown enduring love and then, write a thank you note to my Lord.
Definitely food for thought as I greet this new morning.

  2. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be (Psalm 139:16).

Gad loves me, already knowing my worst side. I don’t try to be good to win his love. I try to be good to honor his love, to reflect his love.

  3. The magnitude of the Lord’s love and patience is overwhelming – I am so thankful! Thank you for this devotion – I will work on showing love and patience to others.

  4. My grandparents were the ones in this physical world who shared thier unconditional love with me…they planted the seed of faith in me and I am forever grateful. They have gone to thier heavenly home and although thier departure was over 25 years ago, I miss them, thier love for me daily.

I am so thankful my Lord placed me in thier care, showing me His love, through them. Because of thier faith and devotion to Him I am able (after many bumps and wrong turns) to also share His love with others and know Him as Father.

  5. Thank you for the gift of your honesty in sharing the hardship of such hard works raising children.
My youngest just turned 31 got married to the most amazing young lady last October. We have three and my husband worked 2nd shift all of our children’s lives during their childhood so practically single parenting was
More like than not. I stayed felt failure to b honest. Sometimes I felt that God stepped down from heaven and babysit for me to help me!
What comforts me is ladies like you who’s lives seemed put together at all times go through the same difficulties as people like myself actually strangely enough enlightening. Thank you and God unleash His blessings to you and your children. 👏👏👏

  6. Stephen Posey says:

There have been many persons to show me enduring love at different stages of my journey through life. Melanie, my late wife, has been the one constant person even still today. These moments were all made possible through God’s love for me and his plan. I struggle daily yet he is there. The guiding light, saving grace, yearn for it, give control over to The Lord and your journey won’t be without heartache but you will come through, he strengthens where we are weak, picks us up when we fall into despair, provides comfort and love when we feel unwanted and joyless in our lives.

  7. I will always praise him, give him all the glory, he is my King! I love God, if you don’t love God, what’s wrong with you. Blessed his is name Amen.

  8. Thanks Wendy for posting this! I needed to be reminded of God’s enduring unconditional love for me.

  9. I often feel so unworthy of God’s love, but to know that he loves me unconditionally, it is still very difficult for me to grasp the scope of this love. When I find myself struggling with this, I look at my family and it provides me with a small sense of God’s love, as I know the love I have for my children.

  10. I have been blessed with two people in my life that have loved me with Christ”s love…One was my mother, whom I lost to cancer ….she was so full of Christ love not only towards me but towards others. And the second is my husband. God knew exactly what I needed when He introduced me to Him. Father God, I thank you for showing me what true pure love is through Jesus…thank you for the people who have loved me through you. I know there is no one or nothing that can compare to your priceless love….Thank you for setting the highest, truest and perfect love example to follow. In Jesus Name, Amen

  11. Thank you, I know so many that needed this and I will share!

  12. This was a wonderful reminder of His unconditional love. To many times we let that devil steal our thoughts of what we did or did not do and feel as though what we did may cause GOd to love us less.
I am thankful He does love me and keeps me safe in his everlasting arms.

  13. Melanie Steere says:

When I was still a sinner Lord you came to me in love when I called out. That moment has defined my faith and continues to define it. I’m sorry I tend to forget what your love is like, but You in your faithfulness bring me back to that memory to remind me. Thank you for mercy when I stray, for forgiveness when I sin, and for love that overcomes all fear and despair – a love that continues to make me more like you. Thank you Lord. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!

  14. My parents and my spouse have shown me enduring love. They have loved me through the ups and downs of my life. They have loved me at my worst. God placed them in my life, and I am truly blessed to call them loved ones. But none of the love they have for me, compares to the love my Heavenly Father as for me.

    Dear God,
Thank you for loving me the way nobody else can ever love me. You loved me before I knew you. You love me through my sins. You loved me so much, You sent Your One and Only Son to die on the cross for my eternal life. No love is stronger than that. I am eternally grateful to you and your mercy, love, and grace. Thank you God for loving me, and teaching me how to love others.

  15. Thank God for His love. I was riding along the other morning when the same thought came to mind. God loves me and always will. Many times I feel unworthy of His live. I’ve done so much wrong in my life and with each sin I’ve committed I felt as if God would stop loving me and keep His blessings. Sometimes I don’t love myself when I know I’ve gone against His will. But God’s love and his mercy endure forever. I’m so grateful to know that nothing will cause God to stop loving me…even when I do wrong, He’s still faithful. My daily prayer is Lord, help me to love you so much that I refrain from sinning against you!
