Made to Crave ~ Week 1

Welcome everybody to the BIGGEST Online Bible Study Proverbs 31 Ministries has EVER had!!!! And you are a part of it!! Whoooo Hoooo!

We are getting ready to begin an incredible journey together. Let’s be real about this though. We are super excited today, and that’s a great thing. But…

Get ready, here comes the big but…(haha)

But, this journey is not going to be a walk in the park. This road will be filled with ups, downs, bumps, turns, and road blocks. We will experience victories one day and feel defeated the next. We will think we have a good handle on things and then a trigger or temptation appears and throws us off track. It will happen, and it can cause doubt. But…

Another big but…

But, we are not alone. We have the God Almighty with us. We are set out to #CraveGod and satisfy our deepest desires with Him, not food (or whatever it is you struggle with).

We also have the extreme blessing of doing this together. Do you know that almost 40,000 ladies from all over the world are joining you on this journey?

Our goal in Made to Crave is peace—physically, emotionally, spiritually. So, let’s get started.

We’ll be reading Chapter 1, then discussing it in the comment section. Please join us for this fun discussion as we get started on our reading! Plus, we’ll have a special give away to kick off the study! You have to show up to win!
  2. Made to Crave Monday Mornings, Session 1 ~ Fresh Start, Where to Begin ~ These are OPTIONAL, and only an add-on to the study if you are looking for more participation, accountability, and equipping for your MTC journey.  This week, Nicki Koziarz and Melissa Taylor will be tackling “Fresh Start: Where to Begin” and helping you get started without bringing any old baggage into your fresh start.  We’ll be setting a few goals for our first week and begin checking in with you daily on the private FB page for the conference call group.  Whether you listen live at 9:30 am EST or check in later, come prepared to work! Bring your Bible, Made to Crave book and M2C journal, if you have one.

    • i agree with jackie about the verse mapping. this is new to me & looks ingteresting. i am legally blind & it look like i could do it using bible gateway which is accessable to me. this is my first bible study with all of you. i am real excited. i have download the book inaccessable format & will start reading. i would like to know more about the monday morning session. how do you listen to it later if i cannot listen at 9:30 because of work. i loved the over comer song. i would love to download it to a mp3 device to be able to listen during the day.

          • I DON’T KNOW WHAT TIME IT STARTS IN THE MORNINGS ?.WHAT IF I MISS IT IN THE MORNINGS ? I AM SO EXCITED TO START WITH OTHER LADIES IN OUR JORNEY OF HELPING EACH OTHER. I WANTED TO TOTALLY TRUST HIM IN MY EATING. WHEN I FEEL ANXIOUS ABOUT MY FINACIES, THEN I START TO EAT.

        I am also legally blind and have joined the study. I’m interested to hear how you got your hands on the book in accessible format. I have the printed book but would do better if I could get it electronically. It’s nice to see other blind individuals in a program such as this one. I look forward to maybe touching base with you further.

    • I’m excited about verse mapping as well, this is a new concept for me but it sounds like a great way to focus on verses throughout the day.

    PS. Does anyone know the “stories” behind the people in Mandisa’s filmclip? That was incredibly powerful and brought tears to my eyes. If these people can be overcomers, then so can I.

      Hi Nicki,
      I did recognize one face, and that was of Scott Hamilton, figure skater and awesome entertainer at it. Recognized his face because he was definitely one of my favorite figure skaters-he has survived testicular cancer, and he also had brain surgery because a benign tumor was found that could’ve caused blindness.
      One other, I recognized the name Gabrielle Gifford, couldn’t remember where-then realized she was the politician who was shot in the head, when there was an assassination attempt on her life.
      I loved the video-the music and the message-feeling overwhelmed lately and this was just what I needed today!

      Since I happen to know that you live in Australia and don’t know some of these people that we all recoginze, that’s a great question! Artemis picked out some of them for you. The lady who went through cancer treatment is Robin Roberts. She is the host of Good Morning America.. a daily national morning news/entertainment show. The girl shown in the weight room is Hannah Curlee…she was the runner-up on Season 11 of Biggest Loser (her sister Olivia Ward was the winner) and she was one of my inpirations on my personal weight loss journey. There are a couple of other Biggest Loser contestants in the background of Hannah’s scene.
      So glad to have you joining us from down under, friend!

      • I had the pleasure of meeting Olivia at the Crossfit gym where my sister is a trainer in NYC a while ago. Her story inspired me during that season, and it was awesome to watch her strength and to witness how far she had actually come while I was there. It makes me believe that we can be overcomers, too!

        I’m in Australia too and was very inspired by the clip.
        I had a moment of “oh crap, what have I gotten myself into” flush through me… I’m ashamed of that.
        I have been running away too long from my weight issues, not relying on God but I’ve admitted I have a problem and that I’m willing to allow God to take control of it. I even wrote it up on my gyms’ wall as one of my yearly goals – hoping also someone gets curious and asks me about it to allow a ministry opportunity :)
        Nicki, can I ask your location?
        And if there are any other Aussie girls out there… Might be nice to catch up online at time more suitable to us, ie: not midnight :))))

    • The other lady not mentioned is the beautiful Robin Roberts from ABC’s Good Morning America. She is a breast cancer survivor.

    • The lady with the really short hair who has cancer is Robin Roberts from Good Morning America. She went through a battle with cancer and shared her battle publicly through the show. I don’t know the whole backstory but I believe that Mandisa sang her song Overcomer on the show…not sure if it was inspired by Robin Roberts or not. I also recognized Scott Hamilton but didn’t realize he also had cancer.

      • Oh whoops! Didn’t realize a couple of other ladies had already mentioned Robin. Sorry for the redundancy! :)

      • I believe the song was originally inspired by a good friend of Mandisa who was pregnant and battling cancer at the same time. That battle is still on for her friend. I believe she then began to think of all who inspired her as overcomers and came up with the folks in the video, as well as herself, as she has lost over 100 pounds with God’s help and guidance. She is very open and real with her struggles with food and other life battles. I just love her!

    • Great Question Nicki, I wondered the same. Being from down under too (New Zealand) I found the last online study I did that I had no idea who some of the people mentioned were but hey, God blesses us though their amazing stories, so exciting. Love it and totally Love the song, have download the whole album.

    • Gabrielle Gifford was on there…she was a congress woman for the State of Arizona and was shot at an event in Tucson. Had to go through the process of relearning a lot .

    • I knew Robin’s story but not others. Would like to know them if there is any where to find them.

  9. I am looking forward to this study! I have to admit that last night I made an unhealthy choice and I thought of Lysa statement on the video the other day about liking the pizza sauce off the plate before going into see the nutritionist. ..because my thought was this isn’t going to be a choice after tomorrow. Unhealthy choice and thought. … I am an overcome because God is my stronghold and to Him I will run to!!

  10. I am SO ready for this study!!! I am praying for Ps. 84:2 to become real in my life, for my heart and soul to CRY OUT to God and not crave the comfort of anything else this world has to offer. As Lysa says…The journey that I will take discovering my WANT to “will be the most empowering thing I’ve ever done” (p18) :)

  12. How awesome is it that our God tells us to ask Him of anything and we will receive it if we believe. K-Loves encouraging scripture for today speaks to me for this bible study. It’s Mark 11:26. Wow what a powerful way to start the new week with the go to best of Psalms 84:2 & the reminder from Mark to ask God and we will receive anything if we believe. The anything in this case is His help, strength, and power to overcome our unhealthy choices whatever it is food, alcohol, drugs, sex, or just more of anything that separates us from Him.

  13. I am filled with a variety of emotions as I think about the upcoming study. I signed up a few weeks ago because I struggle with bulimia and I know that there is a WAY OUT. The way out is TO BRING GOD IN. I am praying that this study helps me bring God into my eating cycles. I have never done an online Bible study, so I have to admit that the daily options seem a bit overwhelming at the moment. I am committing to do what I can, when I can, and not set expectations too high for myself. One thing I have learned is that when I have higher expectations than I do acceptance, I am left in a state of irritability and discontentment. So, for this study, I choose to accept my progress each day, for what it IS, not for what it ISN’T. Thank you for putting this group together!

    • Praying for you Dawn, and the others out there that have struggled with bulimia, anorexia, etc–I too had a struggle with anorexia when in college. We can do this!!!!

      Dawn, I just want to let you know that your approach to this study regarding expectation and acceptance sounds absolutely perfect. That is really all any of us can do, and is the most positive way to go into any situation, no matter what it is. You can do this!

    • You have a lot of people praying for you and with you Dawn. What a powerful gift! I too battle the demon of bulimia – and I have for 30 years. BUT I am believing for – trusting expectantly – to be freed from this battle. He promises to fight for us Dawn….He tells us we need to be still. So ‘still’ I will be in Him – and intentional I will be in the World. I will rest in the knowledge that the battle is His – and work diligently at my part in the here and now – by making wise choices….moment by moment – hour by hour – and day by day. Does that make sense?

    • I’m praying for you Dawn. I too have dealt with bulimia and compulsive overeating. I’m excited about this study as well but a little overwhelmed by all the “To Do’s” but like you I will do what I can when I can and leave the rest in GOD’s hands. We are all in this together sweetie and we can do this because GOD is on our side, holding our hands and guiding us to the place of total peace with food. Hugs!!

    • Oh my goodness! I know exactly what you are feeling, Dawn. I don’t suffer from bulimia but am struggling with depression. It is difficult for me to complete simple every day tasks, so when I see all the “To Do” activities I not only feel overwhelmed but anxious. I am already feeling defeated and haven’t even started yet! Just once I want to commit to something and actually follow through. My first step is to willingly choose to change my negative attitude into a positive one. Please pray for me that I will have the desire to at least try to do some of the activities. I am grateful to know there are other women who are also facing daily challenges and am thankful we can support each other. :)

      • Hi Lori,
        I have also struggled with depression since childhood. (I also had a struggle with bulimia when I was younger-thankfully overcame that but still have many food and weight struggles.) Depression can be very hard to pull ourselves out of. I will be praying for you and am glad you are here too. I find that when I am truly seeking and relying on God more and looking at my circumstances less I am less depressed and more joyful. It’s not always easy though. I have had trouble finishing things too. Sometimes I can be a real all or nothing type person. Once I mess up it’s hard for me to pick up where I left off…I want to start at the beginning and go all the way through. But I think it’s important to start wherever we are and if we fall, pick ourselves back up and continue on. The enemy knows our struggles too and does not want us to succeed or to be useful for God. He has a GOOD plan for our lives (Jeremiah 29:11) and the enemy has a plan for destruction. I’m praying for the strength and victory to follow God’s Word and not my feelings. I will keep praying for you, too! God bless! :)

      • Lori, I am right with you sister and praying for you as well. I too have battled depression off and on over the years and am currently going through a pretty bad bout of depression that I am trying to crawl my out of. My hubby and I are at the point we realize I need more help than he or I can give me and are working on getting me some professional help. The smallest tasks seem overwhelming so I can relate and can relate to wanting to actually follow through and finish something. I often have a hard time with that. I am working on my negative attitude as well and not blaming my circumstances. Clinging to the Lord in the midst of this struggle. Love the verse this week about my heart and flesh crying out for the Living God. That is where I want to be, so consumed with following him that my heart and flesh cry out for him. I will be praying for you on this journey. :)

      • Hey, Lori…..I can so relate. I struggle with depression as well. And I also almost feel defeated already… as I read how excited everyone is, I have to admit that I feel anxious and uncertain. It’s so hard for me to concentrate on anything right now. My family is going through a very difficult trial……my dad has Alzheimers and it is consuming my time, energy, and thoughts. I have to wonder if I can really work this study when I have so much else on my mind.

      • Lori, I share in your struggle. I suffer from depression as well as anxiety and ADHD. I have a very hard time completing things and I tend to quit most things I start but I know tomorrow is a new day and as long as I’m alive I have another chance to try again. My prayer is that we see this through to the end and draw closer to God. With God, He can bring order to what seems like chaos. Start small and go from there.

      • I can so relate to the struggle with depression many of you have mentioned. I have struggled with it since I was 6 years old. Some days are better than others but it is still a struggle. I don’t have a problem with being in a negative world but I struggle the most with finishing things, I to feel defeated and very anxious about this study as well. I have already gone further in this study than others things I start and get into, so I know I am on the road to being an overcomer! I will pray for each of you ladies and ask that you pray for me as well. We can do this, we are sisters and children of God and together through His love and help we can do this! Much love to all!

      Sweet friend, you are so brave and I’m super proud of you for facing this challenge head on. Nothing is too big for our God but it is too big for us alone. I’m praying for you and I also am connecting you with Denise, who is a guest on our conference calls. She was bulimic for half her life or more and you will be blessed by her encouragement.     • Dawn, Lysa TerKeurst introduces the phrase “imperfect progress” in one of her other books, “Unglued.” I hope she doesn’t mind my quoting her, but it’s so encouraging for whatever we face in life — “Imperfect changes are slow steps of progress wrapped in grace . . . imperfect progress.” So, I pray that you, along with the rest of us, are able to make imperfect progress during this journey together.

I am a bit overwhelmed by all that there is too do, and I was allowing myself to get anxious and worry, but reading your post I was inspired by your statement, ” I choose to accept my progress each day, for what it IS, not for what it ISN’T”!! I am writing that on my Empowerment sign, so every day I can be reminded not to stress!!

      I too am praying for you. I battled bulimia and some anorexia for 20 years since age 11! God has freed me from the actions and I haven’t purged in almost 3 years. However, it is not easy and I still think about doing it. Just remember God is bigger then your Eating disorder and he has already overcome it. If God is for you, who can be against you. You can and will get through this demon of bulimia. I know it is possible because I was severely bulimic and God yanked me right out of that lifestyle. I will continue to pray for you. Lot of love girl,

    It is NOW OR NEVER for me at 61. THAT came fast ! Exercised and stayed in shape my entire life; until I made the mistake of “rescuing” a beautiful 40 yr old niece. Took her into my home and heart. Nightmare ! Began to eat my way into oblivion. Developed all the problems that come with being overweight. The nightmare is over but my destructive eating is not. UNTIL TODAY ! I am Empowered by Christ who will strengthen me with 40,000 warriors at my side. THANK YOU ALL. XXX

      I am closely behind you at 53 so I understand. But we can do this! I am going to let Him draw me close and fight my battle. I just plan on remembering that He is my deliverer in any way I can.

      Dorothy, you are not alone and not the oldest among us either!! I am 64, almost 65. I was always thin, ate whatever I wanted and didn’t exercise because I didn’t have to. All that changed when I got married at age 39 and soon after had my first baby…. at age 41. I thought the weight would just fall off after I delivered, but that didn’t happen. A year and a half later I hadn’t lost any weight from baby #1. It was then I became pregnant with my second child and delivered her at age 43. With two babies to care for, as well as working a part time job at a nearby hospital (I’m an RN), I had no spare time to exercise and was always too tired to make nutritious meals for myself. I started eating a lot of junk, and would just grab this and that when I was hungry or stressed out. Over the years, I really packed on the pounds. I’m lucky my husband didn’t leave me, because neither of us knew Jesus back then. We have been Christians for just 15 years….but in all those years, I’ve never given this struggle to the Lord. I am ready to do that today. I am weak and He is strong. I can do nothing without Him. I’m so thankful for this study and for each one of you. It’s encouraging to know that there are women my age here. I was worried I would be the only over-60 gal in the study. I guess it goes to show that God never gives up on us, no matter what our age. There’s still so much we have to learn about Him and from Him. My prayer is that, as we study God’s Word together and lean on our Lord for strength and wisdom, we will all grow to trust and love our Savior more than we ever. I will be praying for you, Dorothy. :)

      • Yes, Im just starting too. With much hesitation, many life issues,
        obese, over 70 yrs myself. Like what Im reading, and praying for strength.

          I’m glad you’re here, Judy, us senior gals need to persevere and pray diligently for one another. I want you to know that I will be praying for you each week. God wants to heal us and teach us to come to Him with each issue, each problem, that burdens us. We are never too old to run to him or to learn from Him. Even though we are older, we need to remember to go to Him just as a child goes to a parent with a problem that needs a solution. Go to him, let Him pull you up onto His lap and put His arms around you. Remember that He has given us permission to call him “Abba, Father” (Romans 8:15 ….the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by Him we cry, “Abba, Father.”) I find it comforting to remember that “Abba” in Greek means “Daddy”. We are indeed His little children and I am so glad that He is our Heavenly Father. May He richly bless you as you do this study, Judy. I’m right there next to you! :)

    Thank you for this study and for all the time and effort that you all have put into this study. I lost weight last year with MTC as my guide and made a great friend in the process named Misty. Misty herself, has successfully lost weight and is keeping it off. We are doing this study together. I pray to loose the remaining weight I need to loose and to not give up. At 54 years old I have gone back to school and joined a Zumba class. I never would have done so before loosing weight last year. I can only imagine what God has in store for me in the future as I step out from underneath my fat and into the abundant life Jesus has for me and for us all as believers in Christ. The song “Overcomer” is my battle cry when going to school and now I can sing it as inspiration for weight loss and health. I am very happy to be on this journey with you all.

  35. Crissy, you are not alone in that feeling with all the opportunities offered for this study. I love all the opportunities offered , but I am not well versed on all the things offered as I am not a major computer / online person. I do feel like I am missing out, but I thank the leaders for all the opportunities provided. In no way do they want you to feel overwhelmed. Feel free to ask them anything as they are so welcoming and encouraging. Don’t feel like you have to participate in everything, you will grow so much just by commenting. I have loved reading the comments and have learned so much. My relationship has grown so much with God since being a part of these studies, but I still have a long way to go concerning cravings for food and material things. For the longest time I didnt pick up this book because I thought it was only discussing the craving for food , but as I read the devotional I was able to apply my shopping addiction into it. I also have a friend who I conside a sister to me coming onboard for this journey for the first time as I feel that this is a place where people truly care, support , encourage and respect each other .I thank God for Lysa Terkeust who wrote the lifechanging book, the amazing team of leaders and for all of you joining this journey.       Amy, I understand exactly what you’re saying about the time. What has worked for me is to purpose a specific time daily. In my life it means getting up an hour earlier every weekday morning. And most weeks going to the library while our daughter is at youth group on Wednesday evenings. The library option works great for me because it’s right across the street from our church. These two things have made all the difference in staying more on track with studies than I ever have in the past.

Then I saw the the word for today, the verse for today and well by the time I finished listening to Mandisa… I know I can overcome, this time WILL be different. I believe it because there is one thing different-it’s not a diet, my focus is on God and all else will fall into place.

I definitely understand, also a feelings-based person dealing with depression. Frustrating because I use to be the positive thinking type, but due to circumstances (and lack of hormones) it’s easier to fall into depression and I have to admit, not only physically, but spiritually I’m not where I want to be or ought to be which is why I joined this study.

    I am an emotional eater. My husband of 40 + yrs. passed away in Nov. He had been battling cancer for 2 yrs. I have gained 30 lbs. in those 2 yrs. but I have always been overweight. I have tried several different things. I was talking with a friend on a health sight I use that provides menus. I can lose weight doing this but then I become bored with the menu. I need something that will structure me and to want to crave something more than food; something that will change the way I eat and show me different ways to do this. This is my 3rd OBS and I have gotten so much out of the other studies. I am really excited about this study. It is time for me to get back into life and make a new beginning for me.

  72. I was going to write some super upbeat comment, like so many others have done. However, this study is about being real – and the reality is I’m angry. I’m so frustrated that weight continues to be an issue for me. I am so tired of fighting this fight. I’m disgusted with myself for hanging onto the issue to tightly, for not being able to truly let go and surrender it to God. I’ve came through other battles in life and been able to turn those over to Him. Why is it that I fight so hard to hang onto this one? Why do I think I can do this one on my own? Rich Mullins sang a song titled Hold Me Jesus. These lyrics fit where I am perfectly:

    Surrender don’t come natural to me
    I’d rather fight You for something I don’t really want
    Than to take what You give that I need
    And I’ve beat my head against so many walls
    Now I’m falling down, I’m falling on my knees

    I’m here because I don’t know what else to do. Something has got to change – and from past experience the best thing to change is my relationships with God. Whenever I’ve taken steps to move closer to Him I’ve seen Him claim victory in my life. I’m praying that I will experience His victory here as well.

The Lord delivered me over night of smoking so why not these food issues I have battled since I was a little child!! I am praying for you sweet sister and all of us in this study that we will stomp on satan’s head and overcome his constant temptations to make us unhealthy and our temples sick and full of disease because of our unhealthy eating choices.       WOW!!! Connie. Thank you for those words and your honesty. Thank you to Lysa and all the staff at P31 for putting this together.
      Those words sum up alcohol addiction, as well as most addictions. It doesn’t make sense, we know it will kill us and remove us from those who love and need us, we hate ourselves for doing it, we tell ourselves every day, “Today is the day” and by 5:00, all strength is gone and we give in. I’ve tried and failed numerous times to break these chains the enemy has shackled me with. Like Lysa says, we have to have the “want to”. I guess I never really “wanted to” because I didn’t have anything else to “go to”. Another great point in the book is not wallowing in what we “can’t have” as if we are being denied something, we celebrate what we can have! (p.30) A light bulb lit up for me reading this. Instead of being resentful that others can have a glass of wine or two and be fine with that, I need to celebrate what NOT jumping on that slippery slope is going to do for me in the long run. At close to 50, I know the pattern, and it just doesn’t work for me.

      For the first time in life I feel like I’m really connecting with God. I’ve been listening to K-love and our local Christian stations exclusively for the past year or so, and so many things make more sense now.
      With almost 40K of you out there supporting me, I know that all I have to do is keep checking in here for encouragement.

I have the desire to do away with unhealthy cravings, but not the knowledge of where/how to go instead, so I can feel defeated before I even begin. That’s what excites me about this study. It looks to go deeper into understanding cravings and where to redirect them.

I am going back to the verse on the sign up page where the father tells Jesus that he believes then asks for help to over come his disbelief. I am asking God to help me get over my disbelief and crave only Him. No more “I think I can” I am going to “I know I can” I am very excited. God prepared my heart for this study. I was thinking about starting to look for one to do with a few friends and this one popped up on my facebook – last night. I have bought the book for my kindle and am ready to go.

  78. Loved the video by Mandesa (sp?). I will be 73 on Jan 28th! I want to lose 17 pounds that have creeped up on me. I lost 35 pounds in 2012 and am disappointed in myself that I have let half of that creep back. I am 5′ 3 1/2″ and weigh 152 lbs this morning. My highest weight in my life was 198 lbs but I fought over the past years to get it down. I will be here every morning. Please pray with me that I will be “empowered” by the Lord God and all my sisters here at Proverbs31 to make the changes I need to make in my life.   91. I have been so ready and excited about this study for a very long time! I will admit though I started to have some major doubts and fears creep in this week. I have attempted this study once before and did not finish and have attempted to address some of the issues I am facing right now many times before in my life.   92. Hi all, I’m in south africa and due to the time difference may not be able to participate in all the live events on FB, twitter etc but am still looking forward to taking part in this online study and trying to follow all the things from this side.

    The music video especially brought tears to my eyes as I have been through a number of things medically and have not yet found the end of that part of my life but am encouraged by the song that I can be an overcomer of the situations I find myself in and even now as I’m facing more tests and discussions with dr’s I can know that God is there with me. I may not know what the future holds, later today, tomorrow or even the rest of 2014 but I know He will never leave me and will guide my part as He has even just this last week in finding a dr who has found things that other dr’s didn’t take much notice of as it was not directly related to the main health issue but is now down the road affecting my full recovery.

    I am so excited to start this study!! That video of Mandisa’s song brought tears to my eyes! When I see what those people have overcome, it gives me hope. I only have to overcome my obsession with food, which is so minor compared to cancer or another life threatening disease or event! More than anything, I want to have a deep passion for God in my life again! I need that more than anything else! I recently found out someone close to me in my family does not believe in God and it breaks my heart. Now more than ever, I need to experience God’s almighty hand on my life to strengthen my faith, make me an overcomer and to draw my family member to Him as well! I’ve used lots of things to cover shame and guilt, and am so grateful to know that He is bigger than my shame, and that I am worthy simply because of Him and what He’s done for me.   113. I wasn’t going to watch the video. But after reading a couple of posts, I went back to it. What a blessing!! I am so glad I watched it. Made me cry. The struggles I have that seem so big to me don’t even compare to what these people have endured.
    I have recently lost 90 pounds but it is slowly coming back. I want to stop this roller coaster ride and just simply make healthy choices when I know I can.

    Very Very excited to get going but not going to lie, feeling a bit overwhelmed and kinda nervous. When I read so many of the posts I feel I am so behind in my journey with the Lord than so many people. Gotta say that makes me scared. I know everyone’s journey is different but again when I read the posts I feel like I so don’t belong in the same study as the rest. Before I answer a post I feel I have to pray and pray so I say the right thing. This timing is so right for me, and even after I have had the book on my bookshelf for longer than it weed to be, but Ian reminder of a saying that I would rather wait until it is my time than be even one minute early so not to miss out what is my treasure. I know that even though I have had the book for over a year, this is the right time! And yes I love Mandisa’s song Overcomer!       Hi Rebecca! Just a note to let you know your success will not be any less by not particpating in the Facebook or Twitter options that are available. They are just that – options. The emails and blog posts are all that are needed to get everything God wants for you from this study. I, personally, get overwhelmed with trying to keep up with all the different pieces. I am purposing this time to focus on keeping up with the reading and the comments on the blog posts. I am also hoping tomgetbplaced in a FB group, but it won’t make or break my success if it doesn’t happen. If you do the reading, and read the blogs and as many comments as you’re able to (sometimes there are many, many, so read what you can) God will meet you where you are and bless your sox off!

  134. I am so ready for this study. I have struggled with my weight my entire life. I had weight loss surgery in 2008 and lost 110lbs. I finally felt what if was like to be “normal”. However, after 3 years I became very ill and had to have my procedure reversed. I gained everything back. I have live the past fews years in devastation at what I have done. I know God is the answer and I am prayerful that this study will help me connect my desire with God’s will. Thank you for this study!

    I am a stay at home mommy of 3 (4, 2, & 3 months) living in NJ and my goal is to lose some of my baby weight and grow closer to God in this journey. I’m around food ALL day while I’m home with my little ones, so it is a constant temptation to use it as a quick escape or for a energy-boost, which has become a terrible habit. I was thinking I might be a little more successful if I have some personal accountability- maybe a buddy or 2 to check in with during this study? We could email, facebook….just generally check in with each other and lift each other up in prayer. Is there anyone out there like me who would like to pair up? I have struggled with an eating disorder for about a year now but have only confessed it for about 6 months and have been trying to walk thru the healing process. Thru that I have gained about 40 pounds. Learning to be healthy and begin to lose weight in a healthy way has been beyond a struggle to me. I’m certainly in a season of SURRENDER to letting go of all things, especially the control over my food and weight issues. This is HIS temple and I want to live in a way that reflects HIS glory. Praying desperately for victory in HIS name for all of us.

    • Hi Brianna, I wondered to about an OBS, but this is my third one now. It’s amazing how God can work through women you never see face to face. We have a common bond as we are all sisters in Christ. The key is to participate as much as you can. Read the book, and the blog, comment, read comments, reply to comments as the Lord leads. If you have Facebook you can do the Rev It Up study on Thursdays, even if you can’t be on live, and then be sure to read some of the blogs on the Thursday Blog Hop and if you have a blog post one, too. May you find OBS as much of a blessing as I have. Peace and joy in the Lord.

As I went through my pantry and prepared my grocery list, I started ansking myself, if Jesus were to come to dinner, what would I prepare? It would not be frozen or a boxed meal. I would not stop by Taco Bell or McDonalds. I would prepare something fresh with the best ingredients I could afford. My family deserves my best. I deserve my best.   165. Part of my prayer is going to be to ask God to help me not WANT the harmful-to-my-body junk. As Lysa said, it’s all permissible, but it’s not helping me at all to keep eating this stuff. My body will literally get sick from eating bad food and being overweight. If I really care about me, then I need to take care of me. I want to ask God to help me love myself by EMPOWERING me to say no to what is not beneficial…I think it can only happen through sincere prayer.

    • Ah, Tracie, I was once a smoker, too. I quit 17 years ago, by the grace of God! I wanted to be closer to God and kept praying of that. He kept telling me, “quit smoking.” I’d say, I don’t want to do that, but I want to be closer to You. We went round and round like that for a week or two. Finally I said, OK. I chose a date, but as it got closer I was afraid of failing and being the nasty person I was whenever I tried to quit (my family wasn’t thrilled about that either). I quit, but I let the fear get to me, so I cheated and went on the nicotine patch. It’s a 10 week program, but on the 10th day, God took it completely away for me. I never wore another patch and never wanted another cigarette. He showed up, even in my doubts and fears. Our God is an awesome God!!! We take the first steps in faith, even if we have to do it afraid, and He shows up to make it happen. May the Lord bless you and keep You in His constant care as You seek to walk this out with Him.

  174. I hope I am ready to overcome, but past failures fill me with self-doubt. I feel very lonely and hope to connect with other women through this study and not let life distract me and push this to the back burner. I am starting M2C while also reading Bill Hybels “Too Busy Not T o Pray”. I am praying that this is the time when I will lay the addictions, stubbornness, self-pity and self-loathing at the cross for the last time and NOT pick it up again.

    • Sweet Becky, Lay those burdens down–past failure, self-doubt, addictions, stubbornness, self-pity, and self-loathing. These things are not of God. They are lies from the devil. Don’t accept anymore deliveries on those thoughts. Jesus is ready to take that yoke of those burdens from you and give you His light and easy yoke, a shared yoke with which He can guide you and help you do the work He has for you to do.

  177. I am ready to start the study. I feel like so many comments above are me. I want to overcome my food cravings and want to live healthy spiritually and physically. I think God is telling me something when most of the days I don’t feel well and can’t do much. I need to overcome some of my fears and move on and get past them and that will only work through God as it is crippling life.

  178. I am so excited to be starting this online study. Made to Crave has been on my “to read” list for a long time now, ever since I saw Lysa at e-women’s in 2012. I started my weight loss journey in January and slowly but surely lost about 45 lbs. I plateaued a few times but never gained back more than a couple pounds and always got right back on track. However, I started going downhill around October of 2013. I got injured and was unable to exercise, recently started a new job, and was just stressed about the phase of my life. I completely lost my motivation. I kept telling myself,”I’ll get back on track next week.” I’m the last few months I’ve gained back over ten pounds. I want to stop this cycle before I feel it becomes irreparable. I want to crave God, not food or other temporary things. I want to be satisfied in Him.

  179. I’m very excited about this bible study. I have had food issues all my life and really need to bring GOD into every single part of this battle, and a battle it definitely is. I started going to food for comfort when I was in 6th grade because of some terrible things that were happening in my life and from that time I have gone to food to help comfort me. I am a total believer in GOD and know HE is right there with me always but for some reason never totally brought HIM into the food thing. I know this was divine intervention when I saw this bible study. It is my time to change as well as all of our times, time to totally hand things over and go through the rough stuff and be the “OVERCOMER”. I love that song and SO happy it is our theme song. I will be praying for all of us that GOD will be firm but gentle with us and give us the strength and the courage to get to the other side.

  184. Good morning!! Wow. My word-empowered. Perfect. Mandisa’s “Overcomer”…major tears. So many emotions while watching. I am so excited about this study. My favorite part: This time is different.

  185. I’m super excited to be taking my first online bible study with Proverbs 31 Ministries. I look forward to providing encouragement and support to others and being supported in my journey with all these wonderful ladies. I’ve participated in a MTC bible study with my church a few years back and I found the peace I had been so needing. With God as my go to instead of food I successfully lost 100 lbs. God even lead me out of my comfort zone and I was given the opportunity to lead a small group study of MTC at my church. Two months later, I broke my foot (from exercising) and a month later was told I had a fracture in my other foot and had to be off work for 3 months. I felt like God has a great sense of humor, since my word(s) for that year had been “Be still.”

    My transition back to work was not a good one. Being a type 1 diabetic since the age of 4, I had never let my illness define me as a person. I felt like I was defined as a number instead of a person when I returned to work. I turned to food for comfort instead of God during this time. I felt like I had lost control of everything in my life.

    I’ve decided that this year 2014, I’m doing it God’s way and getting my life back! I may have gained a significant amount of weight back but that doesn’t change how God feels about me. It’s not about what I can do on my own, it’s what He can do in and through me if I let him. Looking forward to what God has in store for me and all of you!

I have been am overcomer in many areas, but managing my battle with weight, I have never necessarily felt like a huge overcomer. My parents had me on diets as a teenager and I have always wrestled with the thoughts that I am not beautiful if I am “fat”. I have lost weight several times to only gain it back and more. When I found this online study I was beyond thrilled that Lysa Terkeurst wrote a book about this. This issue that haunts my thoughts daily. I can not wait to dive into the book and into this study to learn how to crave God. To loose this weight once and for all and it not be about food this time.     My sweet sister suggested that I join this OBS with her. (I have never participated in a BS- on line or otherwise. How can that be when I’m 51?) I had shared that I was just not feeling “love” lately–no motivation, satan helping me talk myself to not get out of bed, not going to weekly fellowship on Wed at my church, and not attending worship on Sundays. In fact, this happened today.

    I am hoping and praying that I WILL gain strength through this study to not only eat more healthy but to believe in myself once again.

  215. I want this but scared I will fail. I’ve struggled with my weight since middle school. I tried over the counter diet pills in high school and it was bad for me. Tried Nutrisystem also and gained everything back. I lost fifty pounds when I turned thirty in hopes of having my miracle baby, but 7 miscarriages later and the loss of my Fallopian tubes, I’ve gained it all back. I hate how I look and feel but food is where I turn in good times and bad times. Philippians just came to my mind: I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.

    • We only need faith as small as a mustard seed and Jesus will gracefully carry us through this journey. I tried pills, and stuff like that before with no lasting results. Jesus is the only way. I struggle too even after losing 90 pounds, but we can do this. Nothing thats worth anything really amazing is easy :)

    Is THIS the blog? I was having trouble figuring out where to go for the blog to participate. I’m excited about starting this study because it is exactly what I’ve be…CRAVING!! A way to make me WANT TO lose weight. More than that, tho—to WANT TO put God in place as my craving instead of seeking comfort from food. I can go all day eating healthy, but at night, when I’m alone…THAT’S when I turn to food. Anxiety sets in. I REALLY want to change the way I THINK!!! Not just for losing weight to look good.   230. I read the intro last night to get started for this.. and wow! It fit me to a T! And then I read chapter one today, and I gotta say, again.. it fits me. I thought I would share that last week I decided to give up coffee. I LOVE my coffee, but I drink a lot of it and I put heavy cream (A LOT of heavy cream) and sugar in it, so it was extra fat and calories that my body didn’t need. I also resolved to mainly drink water, and a little bit of unsweet-decaf tea. But I also resolved to spend my normal “coffee break” times in prayer and Bible Study. I was doing okay with giving up coffee (after the first two days which were rough), but I ended up slacking a little bit with the “God time.” However, when I had my cup of coffee this morning (I said I could have 2 cups on Sundays), while I was reading chapter one.. a funny thing happened. It wasn’t the food-gasm I was expecting, after a week of no coffee! It was enjoyable, but it wasn’t the all-consuming highlight of my day that I was expecting.

    And then chapter 1 talked about replacing cravings for worldly things with cravings for God.

    I just wanted to share this as an inspiration to my sisters who are starting at day 1 with this. I am so thankful that God led me to this Bible study. You can do it, friends. The Bible says “I can do ALL THINGS through Christ who strengthens me.” Not,… “I can do all things except take control of my diet…” Praying for you all!

    I have mixed feelings this morning, I must admit. There are a lot of different things going on in my life at the moment, and I had signed up for this OBS a few weeks ago when I first saw what the Made To Crave book was all about. Weight has been a struggle for me all of my life. Right now, I am at my heaviest weight ever. I’m also in a weird place spiritually. I am still a new Christian, but I find myself struggling more than ever to let God into my heart and my life, to learn how to pray the right way, and to fight off what I feel like has to be Satan trying to win back my soul. I am thankful for the M2C OBS, and hope and pray that this will help me to open my heart, my mind and my soul to what is really going on, and to help me learn to lean on God at all times. Please pray for me, and I will be praying for all of the ladies involved in the study that we can all get exactly what we need from the book, our Bibles, this study and from each other!

  246. Well, I don’t know where to begin but to say…AWESOME. This study has already proven to me a miracle for me. I joined this study thinking that I was going to get to share study time with my daughter who is almost 2000 miles away and that we would somehow be side by side on this actually talking to each other during the study, and to lose the weight I have been trying to lose for going on 8 years now. What the Lord has shared with me today though is that He has a much bigger picture He wants to paint in my life. That I wasn’t even close with the reason’s I joined this study. :) I am so excited to reestablish my relationship with my Lord and watch how He makes changes in my life that will glorify Him. I feel that I have a lot of work to do within my life, but I finally know again that I am not alone and that He will be with me every step of the way. I can’t tell you how much that means to me after the failures I have made in my life. My God is amazing and so full of grace and mercy to welcome me back with open arms and no reservations.
    He has promised me that this is going to be a journey for me that I will never forget. :)

Our worship team introduced a new song, just last week, that one of the members wrote. “I will never go back, never go back, never go back to what I use to be,” I can’t remember all of the words, but that resonated with me today.     I have done numerous P31 bible studies and loved them all. I have even done MTC before but didn’t complete it. I found myself getting worried from time to time as we got closer wondering how this time would be different as Nikki talked about in an earlier post this week. But after reading all these posts, watching the video and listening to Mandisa’s song I realized I was focusing on the wrong thing! I was still focusing on me- my power and my strength! What I needed to be focusing on is just one thing GOD- and my choice to focus on God first !! Then nothing else matters because He can do everything. My unbelief wasn’t about God it was about me. Like someone quoted from Phillipians 4:13 earlier “I can do all things thru Christ who strengthens me”. He will help all 39K of us do this too! We will overcome!!

  252. My mom used to say that I never get excited about anything…so I can’t agree with most of you that I am excited about this journey. But I AM ready. When I signed up for the Bible study, I had no idea it had anything to do with weight, though that is a problem in my life. (Where was my brain?) I DID know that I need to develop my craving for God and get Him back to His rightful place in my life. Now that I have read the first chapters of M2C, I feel that “having no idea” about the study, was God’s way of pulling me to Him. I look forward to connecting in a deeper way with Him, and even losing some weight along the way! Woo hoo!

    I’ve been at a spiritual plateau for over a year and a weight plateau for about two years. I just couldn’t get motivated in either area and my church wasn’t offering any studies that captured my attention. When I heard about the “Made to Crave” study, it was a whisper in the wind … God’s voice. I could almost hear the Lord saying, “No more excuses, Colley! I’m giving you an opportunity to grow in two areas at once. It’s your choice to do it or not, but if you miss out on it … stop whining to me!!” Obviously God doesn’t take that attitude; however he does expect me to do my part rather than just waiting for Him to snap His fingers and make changes while I become lazy. He could snap His fingers (if it was best for me) and make things different for me, however I would lose out on the joy of growing closer to Him in the process. I thought it was buried in the office but low and behold this week I kept coming across it on my hope chest (of all places) in my bedroom.     Going thru with the flu all week and unsure if taking my husband back after all he did to me from taking kids away from me to turning me into courts and dhs with lies he said about me to his family and friends. Now after 5 months all alone and being taken thru court fighting for my kids he knows God is the answer. I love the Lord and I missed church this morning being so sick. I pray this bible study is helpful. My family don’t want nothing to do with him and don’t want me with him. He blames me for all of it. I’m not sure of his motives. Just sick of the crossfires.

    I’m scared and excited all rolled into one. I just read chapter one and reviewed my notes from the last time I read MTC (April 2013), I was Amazed at how the Lord used Lysa’s same words to speak to me a different way today than the last. I see a lot of similarities in my thoughts from before, but also some growth.
    God is going to do amazing things through this study.

  298. I am a stay at home mommy with a 3 year old and 3 month old. Some days are easier than others but what I struggle with is making time for GOD. I teach my daughter to pray and I read her bible stories, but I myself forget to do these things. I want to Crave GOD so much that my children see it in my daily actions. My babies are everything to me and I want them to crave GOD as much as I do. I am hoping this study will open up opportunities for me grow in my faith as well as defeat any obstacles that may try to distract me from GOD. Ready to dive in and trust GOD that I will not drown!     • The journal is divided by week. Each week is identical. It includes “my word”, “my verse”, “my goals”, “my action steps”, “my thoughts”, “my victories”, “my prayers”, and “my notes”. The word and the verse are given to us. You can easily make your own journal. Hope this helps!

      Mandessa’s song and video brought me to tears – almost bawling!! Why, I don’t know. Just emotional – afraid I guess – about this journey. I have tried so many times in the past without success. I keep thinking I want this for myself, but the permanence of the lifestyle change it will take to make this happen for good is frightening to me. I want to please God with my choices and my body (His temple) but I am not confident that I won’t disappoint Him. I always have such great intentions but don’t always follow through, I tend to fall off the wagon. I’ve always struggled with my weight, in a sense of not eating healthy and going all day without eating until supper, and then eating everything in sight. After listening to Mandisa’s song Overcomer, I truly believe that with Gods help I can overcome this battle as well the one if seeing things through until the end. Controlling my weight the correct way is just one of a few issues I have, none of which are life threatening, but they do keep me from being me and I’m tired if that, as well as my family is. So, I’m ready to get started and learn to just ‘let go’ and give it all to God!!!

  325. I am ready to begin anew. Last week you gave us the scripture from Isaiah 43:18-19. I am not looking back I am looking for something new in my life. That new is a new creation (spiritually and physically) as promised in 2 Cor. 5:17 . I have played the yo you game for way to many years. I want to become obedient to what the Lord has for me. I want to strengthen my Craving for Him. Years ago when my husband died I began what I learned today is Bible mapping. I did not know it as that I was just drawing closer to God. It was such a sweet amazing process He took me through as I healed from loss. I smiled when I read Bible mapping. I said Lord this is not new. But I realized it is a new approach to being an overcomer in the battle of weight.
    Thank you ladies for putting this study together. I will be traveling part of the time. But the nice thing is I think I can still follow along and keep up. I love the flexibility of this study.

    I’m ready to battle this head on….I had a moment of “oh crap, what have I gotten myself into” flush through me with the song… I’m ashamed of that, but pushed it down like I always do – maybe its time to confront it….
    I have been running away too long from my weight issues, not relying on God but I’ve admitted I have a problem and that I’m willing to allow God to take control of it. I even wrote it up on my gyms’ wall as one of my yearly goals – also hoping someone gets curious and asks me about it to allow a ministry opportunity :)
    Please pray for me, as I want this to happen. I’m ready, willing and open to overcoming! Long journey, many diets, many docs, dieticians, homeopaths, specialists etc…. I’m on pills and healthy diet plans and exercise regimes but nothing is budging, so I believe, its time for God’s intervention. I can’t do this alone anymore.
    Thank you for your OBS, I’m sooooo excited.
    And if there are any other Aussie girls out there… Might be nice to catch up online at time more suitable to us, ie: not midnight :)

    I have lost count of how many times I’ve taken the trip down “Let’s Get This Weight Under Control Highway.” I am currently at my heaviest weight and I am miserable. This study and journey is an answer to my hearts cry. In so many ways I have given up on ever making it through this. I find myself numb and totally unmotivated to do anything almost daily. I want to fix this earthly body. I want to get up, dust myself off, and take the Lord by His hand and move forward on this journey. I know the past problem has been I was trying to do this on my own and my own way. I can’t do it on my own, but with the Lord I can and I will. I pray for strength, for healing of heart and mind and for a cleansing of heart and mind. To be a new person at the end of this six weeks. Thank you Lord for this ministry and this community!

I have overcome so much in life and never had to worry or work at my physical self. Until my winter began. Who is the fourth person highlighted -a female – an athlete, I believe? I, as I listen to the words of the song, am reminded of Romans 8;37 “Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” Here is another verse referenced: 1 Corinthians 15:57 “But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord, Jesus Christ.” What good news!!   358. I have struggled with food issues all through middle school and high school. In middle school I never ate breakfast and I didn’t have a real meal for lunch. Once I got in high school I started eating a lot of junk food and not watching my portions, when I was board I would go to the kitchen nd look for something to eat even though I wasn’t hungry. I am a freshman in college now and it’s seriously time for a change. I started doing the devotional book for Made to Crave n have loved it. Then when my mom had told me about this online Bible study I got super excited. I am done with letting my struggles bring me down and away from God! I cam be an overcome! I’m so excited to go through this Bible study and become even more in love with God! I pray that He will “make me broken, empty, and lonely.       My daughter did not have hers removed, but it is dying. She has Hashimotos. It hasn’t stopped competely, but is close. She gained 10 lbs without a blink. She has had to learn a lot about how to eat and what and when etc. That little thyroid does a whole lot more than people realize!

This is my first online bible study. I didn’t print the empowered sign but I did write it down on an index card and put in on my mirror and fridge.

This is the beauty of P31 OBS–you can participate when it’s good for you!

I take my unbelief and look at it this way…when I look up into the sky at night and see the magnificent sky that our God has created and think, “How can you not believe in God?” Then how can I not believe that my God that created that, who loves me above everything else, can not help me overcome my cravings and desire Him above all else!! You can do this Dawn…be #Empowered by the One who loves you!!

  366. I am really excited to start this study! I have struggled with my weight since high school and I know I have made food an idol. No diet or exercise plan in the world will fix that – only Jesus working on my heart will. I am praying that I will put God first and THEN I will be successful in reaching my healthy weight with His help.

    I am so excited about this study. I have struggled with weight for a while. I wanted to suggest a ipad app called Vyrso. Its a Christian ebook store, but the app is a reader. The cool thing is i bought this book from there for $9.99 and when I am reading it through their app, i can open up a bible verse through a link and it appears right beside the page I am reading, as wella s you can use their highlighting and all kinds of marking features like circling, rectangles, hearts, i also like that I can put little sticky notes exactly where i want it. Its a great app! Just thought I would let everyone know!

(Actually, so awesome, I’m tempted to make it the new ringtone on my phone…infact…I think I will). I am really looking forward to digging deep and being completely vulnerable and honest with the Lord through this about my struggles and why they are there. My “one word” for 2014 is Mending. I too need to loose weight but more importantly I want to Crave HIM above all things. I am anxiously awaiting results on a biopsy I had done last last week to see what the diagnosis is. Praying for the results to be hysterectomy if needed and nothing more serious, but I know today that God has my back and always will, just the unknown and the waiting is so very hard. Tracie I do not have any friends doing this study, I would love be able to connect with you and others as well who need a discussion, encourager, and accountability friend.   384. Wow! This is my first bible study ever – I am Catholic and during Advent went to a Penance service. Following my confession the Priest gave me a penance of reading the bible (something I don’t regularly do). It was an interesting penance and I have tried to continue with it. It is difficult as many times, I’m not really sure of what the scripture means. I am very exited about trying the verse mapping and am so hopeful to get a lot out of this study.

  389. I’m excited to get started, never done an OBS before, but honestly feeling a little overwhelmed. I have decided this time will be different for me. I have lost weight so many times but always gained it back, I have never gotten to the heart issue of my weight problems. Not sure I will get to the OBS in my day until after the kids go to bed at night will that matter? Also I just realized I have the MTC devotional not the book so I will need to go out and buy the book tomorrow.

I can memorize it no problem but it doesn’t really stick and then when I want to recall that verse to someone else years later I just can’t seem to. I think that verse mapping may just be the answer I was looking for!

  391. I am excited and nervous about the bible study . I want this to be my moment, but I am always disappointed in most of what I do. I am always afraid of failing at what I try to do. Or it is not good enough. It want stick, I have struggled with weight and fear forever I want this to be different.

    • Danitra, I’m in the same boat, but this WILL be different. We have to BELIEVE that this is the last time we will fail. WE ARE EMPOWERED by the HOLY SPIRIT. WE CAN DO THIS! I’m afraid too, but you have all of us. Use this forum….I am….when I want to fall off, when I feel Satan is getting at me, we pray and we write down our feelings. WE CAN DO THIS! We are moving forward and not focusing on the past. “I will NOT be defeated.”
      “I can do all things thru Christ who Strengthens me!” Use the verse mapping. WE GOT THIS!

  392. So glad to be starting this Bible study today. Am currently involved in the 21-day Daniel fast (day 15) so my mind and body are ready for this change. I’m a 4 or 5 time dropout from Weight Watchers. This time IS different! So glad to be going through this journey with about 10 other ladies from my church in Huntsville, Alabama, meeting weekly on Tuesday nights to discuss the book and pray for each other’s success. #Empower #CraveGod

I am really looking forward to getting honest with people like me who want to crave God more. Who want to put Him first, even before the satisfactions that come from food, body weight and shape. We live to glorify God in everything we do, and I want to glorify Him even with my eating. Today at church, our pastor even shared Lisa’s name and quoted her on what she said about ” expecting anything outside of the will of God will satisfy us.” So true. I often think food, being a certain weight will satisfy me, bring me happiness, identity. But in all truth, this is idolatry. I am ready to lay my idols down and go the distance. Willing to go to any lengths. Seek Him first. I have been in recovery for awhile from an Eating Disorder, so this is another great tool and support for the journey I have been on. Let’s go girls! I’ve been on this roller coaster of emotional compulsive eating for so many years. I’m an all or nothing girl, so every Sunday night stuffed and disgusted with myself, I say tomorrow will be different. Each week, part of me feels hopeful, but mostly I feel helpless. I am praying that God will change me, that this time, I can be an overcomer.

Having just really started seeing Made to Crave kind of ‘pop up’ all over the place … I noticed it a bit when it first came out but I didn’t pay any attention to it… now I’m seeing it everywhere. I just saw the facebook post of this online Bible study last night and I signed up. (Hoping my book will be here this week.) :)
    Anyway, my point…. the last time I had any success at losing weight was 16 years ago – and even then my ‘success’ only lasted but for moment. I didn’t even get any pictures out of it. ; ) I’ve had a few semi-successes in my life where I lost enough to notice, but never enough for anyone else to notice and never being able to keep it up. Back to my point… I am so afraid! My fear ranges from simply failing another ‘diet’ to succeeding at one. How crazy does that sound??? My life would be forever changed if this actually works. I have struggled with an addiction to food as early back as I can remember, there is not an age or a time where food was not an issue in my life. In between my range of fears and probably the deepest fear is the fear of ‘what if I can’t stop loving food more than God?’. I only admit that here openly, because God already knows my heart and what I think on, what I dwell on. I have gone through times where I have stopped saying Grace before dinner because of my guilt and shame.
    As I sit here typing this, I realize I have just said far too much but I also know that I could go on and on – probably write enough for a book! Those who don’t have this struggle, they just don’t get it and they see someone like me (sorry, no picture will be provided) and think how could someone let themselves get like that??? I am half looking forward to this study and half thinking ‘why am I doing this?’ but also looking forward to the possibility of encountering maybe others like me. We are all from different walks of life, social and economic status’, ages, races and I’m guessing with a pool of almost 40,000 women probably religious differences. But we are all seeking to replace that craving we have for food (or other things) with a craving, a longing for God.
    I know that I’m not alone; but it sure feels that way when nobody understands what I am dealing with. I can’t say I quite share the enthusiasm about this online Bible study like so many of you have posted. Not because I don’t want to be enthusiastic but because of the fears I have and also the fear of giving up that one constant, that one comfort that I have had my whole life – food.
    Seeking God as I read this verse and truly yearn to fully apply this verse to my life. Psalm 84:2 “My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the LORD: my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God.”

  413. This is my first OBS and I’m really excited. I’ve been using the M2C book, devotional and DVD since the first of the year and they are sooooo motivating. Several friends and I a taking this journey together and I couldn’t be more thrilled. It is definitely time for me to treat my body as the temple it is, for the honor and glory of God our loving Father.

    I was planning on signing up for this study several weeks ago, but didn’t do it. Thought I had missed it and was just going to shrug it off. Then yesterday I saw that it wasn’t starting until today…so here I am! This is my first Online Bible Study and I am really looking forward to it. As fare as I know, I don’t know anybody else participating in this. Because of having only one vehicle and things both my husband I are involved with, it’s often difficult to participate in the studies at our church so this online study is able to fill a need that usually isn’t able to be met otherwise.. Anyway…one of my goals for this year is to grow deeper in my relationship with Christ and I believe this study is going to be one of the tools to get me there. Another goal is to walk in the fruit of the spirit…including self-control. At times that one is really hard for me. Again, I believe this study is a tool to help me with this area of my life as well. If there are any other Michiganders out there…give me a shout-out!

I’ve been having a pretty rough time the past few weeks… kind of a conglomeration of things… grief about my mom who just passed away in September, stress about money (or more accurately, having none!), some loneliness, etc. I’ve been better the past few days but it’s still a daily struggle. I’m super excited for this study though and am happy to say that I just danced around my room singing along to “Overcomer”! :) Love Mandisa and love P31!

  420. First, I absolutely fell in love with the song and immediately downloaded it so I can listen to it any I need to. Secondly, I am excited about this new journey of my life. I started out strong last year going back to church and wanting to learn as much as I could about how to follow God. However, as the year went on I found many more excuses as to why I couldn’t get up and go on Sunday mornings. I KNOW I am craving to learn more about Him but as with everything else in my life I quit half way through. I start out strong and give up. I was so excited when I heard about this online bible study because I saw I could knock out 2 birds with one stone, learning more of my hearts desire and battling the ever present weight re-gain. So, I signed up. But like with everything else, as this day drew closer, I was ready to throw in the towel because now my mind is saying, nothing else has worked in the past, neither will this. I know this is Satan battling me and fighting hard because he doesn’t want to lose the power I have allowed him to have over me for so many years. He has kept me in a cage with my weight making me relive every bad decision I have ever made, every horrible thing that has happened in my life, and every regret I continue to hold on too. So, please, I am begging and pleading for lots of prayers to me get through the next 6 weeks and get me on the other side of my goal, a closer walk with God, weightloss and letting go of past failures!

    • Philippians 4:13 I can do ALL things through Christ, which gives me strength. Lord, I pray for my sister that she receives the encouragement and support she needs to draw closer to You and to break the dieting cycle. Help her to crave You and to turn to You when the excuses are so easy to give in to. In Jesus’ name, amen.

  421. I’m so ready to get started. By most peoples terms I am not overweight, but while I don’t always struggle with food as my craving. I struggle with many other worldly things when I am stressed or having a hard time or even in my good times. I wish to crave God in all aspects of my life. I’m currently separated from my 3rd husband….I really thought I had it right this time, but rather than letting God lead, I lead myself. I chose someone who does not put God first and hid some things from me that I wasn’t aware of. So here I am becoming actively involved in my church again, seeking God, and just trying to hear him and let him lead me. I don’t foresee a reconciliation in my marriage, but I’m praying that as I’m satisfying my craving for God he will lead me in the right direction.

    On a plus side, I have started running as of a month ago and plan to compete in a 4K in Febraury. :) my first ever. Through all of life’s struggles I really just want to focus on God, my children, my work, and bettering myself for them.

  422. This was the first time I had seen the Mandisa video “Overcomer.” Wow! Tears filled my eyes. I have a huge peace about moving forward in this study now. I know that no matter what, when I focus my eyes on the Lord, he will see me through any storm to conquer any difficulty. Amen. Amen.

  424. I am so ready for this! A friend shared this book with me over a year ago, but after I gave it back, and forgot about my ‘want to’. I know all the right things to do to lose weight/get healthy, but if you don’t ‘want to’, it will never happen. Knowledge without application is useless.

  428. I am really excited to start this study; however, I am struggling with “believing this time is different”. Thank you Proverbs 31 team for putting this together and serving as an avenue for God to reach me and show me this time is different!

  429. I am excited to see what God is going to do in me through this study. I’ve never done an on-line study before. Mandisa’s testimony and Overcomer song is so motivaating! I think I will have to start every day listening to that song. I have been struggling since Christmas with negative thinking. I haven’t spun all the way down into depression which I have done in the past which is a praise. I see how I turn to food when I am anxious, frustrated, sad, bored, . . . . The idea of being in a place where I am craving God above food or anything else is exactly where I want to be. This study came to me through a friend, and at the exactly right time. God’s timing is always perfect. As I read everyone’s comments I realize I am not alone in the things I am dealing with. I am looking forward to hearing about everyone’s journey through Made to Crave:).

  430. Oh dear, everyone seems so positive and forward looking. I am dreading yet another study that others will succeed and I will fail. I am having palpitations just thinking of it. I have been through so many programs, including First Place for Health and I have read and watched the made to Crave book/dvd. I have gained and lost 100′s of pounds. I KNOW how to do it, I just don’t want to………I feel like I let God down every day.
    For this study, I have “liked” on Facebook, and “followed” on Twitter. I have purchased the M2C journal and the participants guide (I already have the book/dvd and my fridge magnet). I want this time to be different. I get so overwhelmed. I am being treated for depression and anxiety, I am menopausal, I just had a hysterectomy and I am a card carrying member of the “sandwich generation” not to mention I work a stressful full time job outside the home.
    This time, I am just planning to enjoy the study and learn more about God and what he has in store for me. If I lose some weight along the way great. If I don’t, I will have learned more about God’s plan in the process.

    • We have some things in common………I’ve been through numerous Bible-themed studies, but I can never seem to follow through on them. I have issues with depression…..I am easily overwhelmed……I am menopausal…..I am in the sandwich generation…… I can relate!

  431. I am soo excited!!!! I read halfway through the book a couple weeks ago and it is life changing. LIFE CHANGING. I decided to stop absorb and move on with the bible study. I lost 83 lbs over a two yr period last spring. I’m back up about 20 lbs. I was doing it all on my own. I can’t sustain it by myself. I needed Him to intervene and boy did He ever! Then I followed that encounter with this book and it’s simply amazing. Lysa takes all of the pieces most of us already have and know and fits them altogether teaching us a new way to LIVE. FREE, uncondemned, no shame, no doubts no more bondage! Thank you Jesus, and thank you Lisa! #empowered

  434. Hoping to get back on the right track with my eating habits with this bible study! Took a new job, moved away from my son because he refused to come with me. I have gained 25 pounds in the last year and a half and I know it is due to my missing my son and the lonliness I feel without him. I NEED to get healthy and I NEED God to help me, I simply cannot do this alone. I am hoping that all of you will pray for my strength as I will be praying for yours.
