Desperate

"Desperate“ by Stacy Lowe | Proverbs 31 Online Bible Studies | #5Habits #P31OBSHey, y’all! Stacy Lowe back with you again sharing … what wasn’t exactly my finest moment.

I was on the interstate recently, headed to my nephew’s baseball game 25 miles away, when my gas light came on. No big deal, though. Well, at least until just a few miles from my destination when the 9 miles left on my tank of gas dropped straight down to THIS:

"Desperate" by Stacy Lowe |#5HabitsBook #P31OBS

Yeah.

I turned the music down (because, of course, that would give my gas-deprived car the uumph it needed to keep going) and prayed. OH, how I prayed!

You see, I’d known from the time I left that afternoon I should stop for gas, but knowing it was cheaper at my destination, I was content to wait. When the tank hit zero, though, fearful of becoming THAT person sputtering to a stop in the middle of rush hour traffic, price no longer mattered. I might have started off looking for a bargain, but at that moment I would’ve paid anything because I. was. DESPERATE.

Have you felt that level of desperation before? Are you maybe feeling it now? If so, then Habit #5 is for you:

She moves forward in faith.

Y’all, I know I should’ve filled up before leaving town, but it just didn’t seem important enough at the time to add the necessary footwork. It wasn’t until I was desperate that I was suddenly willing to do anything to make it happen.

Sometimes desperate is exactly where we need to be in order to do what it takes to see our mountains moved, because when we’re desperate to hold on, when we’re desperate for God to see us through, then we’re willing to follow Him forward, no matter the cost.

Faith isn’t always easy. But if we want to be women God and others can count on to not quit, it’s a must.

So I ask: Are you desperate enough to step out in faith today? Are you desperate enough to take one more lap around that mountain to see it moved?

"Moving forward in faith is to just keep doing the next hard thing." @NickiKoziarz #5HabitsBook | Proverbs 31 Online Bible Studies Week 5 #P31OBS

P.S. Oh, and that day my tank was on empty?  #CoastedInOnFumesAndAPrayer

Let’s Chat:

Observe — Where in your life is God calling you to take another lap around the mountain? Are you willing to do it?

Bible — I absolutely love the Faith Hall of Fame found in Hebrews 11! Which of these “by faith” statements resonates with you most and why?

Stretch — What’s one action step you can take today to move forward in faith?

You’re Invited! ~

Don’t miss our last conference call in this series! It’s time to mix that faith with footwork & we can’t wait for you to join us! Call will begin at 11 a.m. ET TODAY! (And if you haven’t yet, you can still purchase the whole series here and then join the optional Facebook group!) Here you will see us using Facebook Live! Moving Forward in Faith ~ Week 5

"Moving Forward in Faith ~ Week 5 “ by Kendra Schwarz | Proverbs 31 Online Bible Studies | #5HabitsBook #P31OBSHey, everyone! Kendra Schwarz back with you and WEEK 5 is here!

Now, chapters 9 & 10 are a few of my favorites! We get to practice the fifth and final habit Nicki gives us & it is a game changer! So without further ado here it is:

Habit Five: She moves forward in faith.

This habit is all about hope. Sometimes life happens and we can feel a bit discouraged. Habit 5 is a great reminder that we still can move forward in our faith even through the difficult times. And here’s the best part: we can move forward in faith knowing God is guiding our steps of obedience. Ruth is a great example of this and she reaped some BIG rewards for living out this habit! You go, Ruth!

Below is our final video from the Fixer-Upper Farm and just you wait for the Real Life Happenins … you might want to duck and cover! Also, new to OBS! Thanks to the amazing Stacy Lowe, we now have real-time closed captioning on our videos! Check it out!

OBS: 5 Habits, Week 5 from Proverbs 31 Ministries on Vimeo.

If you can’t view the video above, watch it here on YouTube.

Like Nicki Koziarz mentioned in the video, this week’s Bible verse sums up the 5 Habits book so well!

So we must not get tired of doing good, for we will reap at the proper time if we don’t give up.” – Galatians 6:9 (HCSB)

Galatians 6:9 (HCSB) | "So we must not get tired of doing good, for we will reap at the proper time if we don't give up." | Proverbs 31 Online Bible Studies | Week 5 verse of the week | #5HabitsBook #P31OBS

Doesn’t this verse give you hope? When we continue to do good, God rewards us and we’ll reap at the right time. How inspiring to know Ruth stuck through the good & bad and now is going to reap the rewards! That can be you, ya know!

To wrap up, we’re equipped with Habit Five, we know our Bible verse and have watched the last 5 Habits video … so download the Weekly Lowdown and let’s finish this Bible study strong!

Observe — You know in the video when the Quit Coach says, “I am a woman who doesn’t quit!”? Well, it’s your turn to shout for all of us to hear (virtually, of course). So go ahead, comment below “I am a woman who doesn’t quit!” Everyone from OBS is cheering for you!

Bible — Look at this week’s verse: Galatians 6:9. Another word for reap is receive. Knowing this, what does it mean in your own life to “reap at the proper time”?

Stretch  Now that we know all 5 habits, which one do you feel you need to work on a little bit? {This is a no judgement zone so comment below because I bet you are not alone!!} Also, feel free to write this habit down in your OBS Journal!

When Pigs Fly

"When Pigs Fly" by Missy Pettigrew | Proverbs 31 Online Bible Studies | #BecomingMore #P31OBSHowdy, OBSers! Missy Pettigrew here, and what a joy it is to be able to wrap up Habit 4 with you.

Over the years, I have uttered the words, “I’ll reach my goal weight when pigs fly!” more times than I can count. I keep stacking up those dieting mistakes. Who’s with me?

Hard, harder and hardest, I keep trying to get this healthy eating thing right. It feels like I have to skimp on the fun I used to have when I would eat out with friends because, bread basket! And my poor family … irritation rears its ugly head toward my family’s needs, so different than my own when I’m aiming for a healthier me.

But, as soon as I read this question from Chapter 8, a light bulb went off in my head (and, more importantly, in my heart):

“Right now, what is it like to be on the other side of me?”

Amidst the struggle to make wise choices, that little Quitzilla voice inside of me is a constant. With each piece of deliciousness I have to pass up, it gets louder. I get irritated. And weary of waiting for obvious results. And you know what? I’m finally seeing that it’s just not fun to be “on the other side of me.”

Oh, that Nicki Koziarz … she is one wise woman!

I also realized that this is the perfect time to practice Habit 4, “She gives others what she needs.” Instead of complaining and moaning about how rotten it is that everyone else can eat what they want and I have to eat, well … not what I want to eat, I can turn my focus off of myself and put it on others. What might they need?

Between Habit 4, that oh-so-helpful reflective question Nicki Koziarz provided, and with God on my side, I finally believe I can break out of this cycle! In fact, instead of stacking mistakes, I’m determined to stack emotional generosity on those around me.

"Breaking the cycle of defeat begins when we decide to stop stacking mistakes." @NickiKoziarz #5HabitsBook | Proverbs 31 Online Bible Studies Week 4 #P31OBS

Wait a minute! What’s that I see sprouting behind me? Wings!

Let’s Chat:

Observe Nicki reminds us that waiting well involves giving God our expectations. Share an expectation you have here, with us,  and record it in your OBS Journal. Get ready to watch God move!

Bible Use an online Bible tool such as www.biblegateway.com or your Bible’s Concordance, and search for verses with the word “wait” in them. Which one speaks into your current waiting situation? My personal favorite is Isaiah 40:31, which says those who wait for the Lord will “renew their strength” and “run and not be weary.” I’m clinging to that promise. Share yours!

Stretch — Let’s practice some emotional generosity, friends! Ask God to bring to mind anyone who could benefit from what you need this weekend. Record what He puts on your heart and seek ways to practice Habit 4 as you grow that emotional generosity.

Don’t miss your chance to win, friends! Today is the last day to enter this week’s giveaway by commenting on the blog!
