Summer Study

First I want to thank ALL of you!  Limitless Life was a dynamic study! We had 5 weeks of truly identifying ourselves by God’s labels, not the world’s. And it is my prayer and hope that those God labels stick!  Don’t let anything or anyone tell you different! A big thanks to Derwin and Vicki Gray for their support of this study and interaction with our audience! What a blessing!

Now that summer is upon us, some of you may be taking a little study break. If that’s you, ENJOY! Hope you have special time with your family, friends, and loved ones.

Here at Proverbs 31 Online Bible Studies, we are slowing down a bit, but we aren’t taking a break. Here’s information about our next study, which will go at a much more relaxed and slow pace. Check it out and if you are interested, get your book and sign up today! 🙂

Calling Moms of all ages, stages, and seasons of life!

Hmmmmm … have you ever wondered, “Am I Messing Up My Kids?”  I don’t know about you, but I’ve asked myself that question often. And now that two of my four kids are adults, I find myself saying, “Okay, I’ve messed up my kids … now what?”  Haha, just kidding (well maybe).

We’ve never done this before and we thought it was about time: for the first time ever, Proverbs 31 Ministries is hosting a summer study just for moms and like-minded women who care about children.

Beginning July 13, we’ll be reading Am I Messing Up My Kids? … and Other Questions Every Mom Asks by Lysa TerKeurst.

Our 6-week study of Am I Messing Up My Kids? will equip you to:

•   Overcome the weight of mom-guilt and learn how to forgive yourself for honest mistakes.
•   Stop comparing yourself to “perfect” moms by turning to God for perspective, guidance and permission to be the mom He’s created you to be.
•   Anchor your identity to who you are in Christ instead of chaining your worth as a mom to your kids’ fragile choices
This online study is going to be all about you, Mom. We recognize that the summer can be a busy, hectic time for us all. That’s why we’ll be focusing on an easy-going pace with more reading, discussion and quiet time and fewer homework assignments. We want you to get the most out of your summer and this book!

So moms and friends-of-moms, you’re invited to join us!   It’s time for us moms to unite and offer each other support and encouragement as we come together and read a book just for us.  We need less of the world’s perspective for how we are raising kids and more of God’s. We will get that and more during this short summer study.

Consider this your personal invitation! Join Nicki Koziarz, Kristy Aiken, and me (Melissa Taylor) as we travel together and read Lysa TerKeurst’s Am I Messing Up My Kids?
Now if you are taking the summer off, not to worry! We also have a dynamic brand new study, The Best Yes, also by Lysa TerKeurst, beginning in September for everyone.  (Details on that are coming soon.)

One last thing, about where you order books for your Bible studies?  Did you know when you order from Proverbs 31 Ministries not only do you receive a book, but you also are investing in eternity? Your purchase helps support the ministry and enables us to offer free online devotions, online Bible studies, and much more. You partner with us when you purchase a resource from our bookstore. Plus … the first 1,500 people who order Am I Messing Up My Kids? from Proverbs 31 Ministries will received an autographed copy by the author, Lysa TerKeurst!

We have two weeks until we begin! I hope you’ll consider joining us! Click HERE to join the fun!

Have a blessed, safe, and happy summer!

But I don’t want your journey through Limitless Life to stop here.

As we wrap this study up, I wanted to leave you with a devotion I wrote for Proverbs 31 Ministries about a year ago. But I also want to personally extend an invitation to you.

The weekend of September 19-21, 2014, we are gathering for an intimate retreat in the beautiful mountains of Asheville, N.C.

5Habits (1 of 1)

The 5 Habits of the Girl Who Won’t Give Up

“Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.” Colossians 3:23 (NLT)

For years I’ve dreamed of writing a book. Not to see my name on a cover or personal benefit. Rather, I want others to see God’s faithfulness. Most days I’m motivated to press on, but other days it’s difficult to maintain my “oomph.”

Another rejection letter hits hard. My toes get stomped on by a hurtful comment on my blog. Or defeat attacks, making me want to quit.

But I believe this is a God-calling. These are words He has entrusted to me. A book He’s asked me to write to tell others about His goodness. And so I try to push these negatives off. Colossians 3:23 inspires me to faithfully plug away another day: “Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.”

Maybe you can relate? For every step you take to fulfill your calling, something knocks you back three feet. Might I encourage you, as one who has been there — is currently there — to keep at it?

Here are five habits I’ve discovered which characterize a woman who doesn’t give up:

1. She gets up each morning and follows through with her commitments, despite how she feels.

Her feet are firmly positioned in the day’s tasks. While quitting may seem like an option, she refuses to become someone others or God can’t count on. Her heart understands that she must be found faithful in small steps to be trusted with big steps. “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much …” (Luke 16:10 NIV)

2. She approaches the Word of God with reverence.

She opens God’s Word and believes each day He has a personal message for her. She listens to sermons and teachings. Instead of automatically thinking of the friend who needs to hear that message, she knows there’s something there for her. “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right,” (2 Timothy 3:16, NLT).

3. She longs for the grace of refinement rather than the grace of relief.

She doesn’t have a personal agenda to fulfill when she faces refinement. In fact, she longs for the grace of refinement, rather than the grace of relief, because she trusts how God will use this season of growth. She accepts the perspective godly people offer her in difficult situations. And she embraces the process of becoming better through her mistakes. Get all the advice and instruction you can, so you will be wise the rest of your life,” (Proverbs 19:20, NLT).

4. She chooses to invest in the world with joy.

Though life may turn on her, she chooses not to reciprocate. Instead, she strives to be emotionally generous toward others by investing in them with joy. As a result, when darkness threatens to loom over her she can easily chase it away by giving joy. “A joyful heart is good medicine,” (Proverbs 17:22a ESV).

5. She has a spirit of unbreakable determination.

Though she may feel a little [or a lot] bent many days, she never lets the bending break her perseverance toward the things God has assigned her. In the midst of rejection, she thrives by standing firm on this verse, “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” (Psalm 51:10 NIV)

Though I don’t have all these down quite yet, I’m working on them. And each day I can see progress … in my perseverance, hope and manuscript.

What about you? What has God called you to do? Start by adopting one habit today and commit your work to the Lord.

Lord, thank You for filling me with purpose, faith and determination. Help me continue to do the work You’ve given me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

From Failure to Faithful Chapter 10

EXCELLENT job ladies on working through your vision statements! I’m so proud of you for giving it a try. And if you are still trying to figure out your life vision statement, it’s okay! Take your time. God is in no rush. 🙂

So … I have a treat for you today!

As we work through Chapter 10, we get to hear from Pastor Derwin Gray himself!

This video is incredibly powerful and I don’t want you to miss it. Pastor Derwin Gray is going to inspire you to finish this study strong during this short devotional message.

Click here if you cannot view the video from your email.

What to do:

Read Chapter 10 of Limitless Life.

Sign up for our next study Am I Messing Up My Kids? by Lysa TerKeurst and tell a friend to join you too! 🙂

Just a reminder about our Limitless Life Facebook party. We’d love to see you! TONIGHT at 9 p.m. ET … Click here to RSVP and join the fun!

We want to hear from you:

In the video today, Pastor Derwin Gray talks about being faithful in the small things. What is something small God is asking you to be faithful in right now? Maybe it’s taking care of an elderly parent, or a child. Maybe it’s being kind to that co-worker. Maybe it’s being supportive of your spouse. Whatever it is, we all have a small step to take. What is yours?

Your Life Vision in 140 Characters

You guys did so well yesterday with our life vision activity!

Great job!!

So today, we are going to do something that wasn’t part of Chapter 9, but I think it will be very beneficial for you to have.

If you haven’t answered those 5 questions from yesterday, stop reading this blog post right now and go back and do that.

If you have already answered them, great! You are ready to move onto part 2 of this activity. We are going to take your responses to those 5 questions and turn them into ONE powerful statement in 140 characters or less.

Here’s how:

Step 1: Go through your responses to the questions and highlight the words that stick out to you the most.

Here’s what mine looked like:

photo-64

Step 2: Study these examples of vision statements:

Proverbs 31 Ministries: Bringing God’s peace, perspective and purpose to today’s busy woman.

Proverbs 31 Ministries OBS: Your life is crazy. Your Bible study doesn’t have to be. We offer real hope, for real life.

Coca-Cola:
To refresh the world …
To inspire moments of optimism and happiness …
To create value and make a difference.

Transformation Church (Pastor Derwin Gray’s church):

The Vision of Transformation Church is to be a multi-ethnic, multi-generational mission-shaped community that loves God completely (Upward), ourselves correctly (Inward) and our neighbors compassionately (Outward).

As you can see, there are a lot of different ways to write YOUR vision statement. It doesn’t have to fit into a perfect formula. 🙂

Step 3: Write it!

So here’s what I came up with for my vision statement in 140 characters or less … and guys, this took me a while so don’t feel badly if it takes you some time to do this. 🙂

To be an inspirational voice of Truth by knowing God, serving my community, living creatively and loving others well.

What to do:

Spend about 10-15 minutes working through this activity today.

We want to hear from you:

Since you did all that hard work, now I can’t wait to hear what your vision statement is! Share it in the comments today, and bonus points if you share it via social media! (Use the hashtag #LimitlessLife and @P31OBS!) I’ll be looking for them today. 🙂
