I Love Proverbs 31 Ministries!

One of the things I love best about my job at Proverbs 31 Ministries is getting to see first hand the work God does in transforming lives through this ministry. It’s absolutely crazy amazing. And it happens everyday. Check out this video~

Join us on the front lines! from Proverbs 31 Ministries on Vimeo.

I love that video so much because I can relate. I was once, and really still am, a woman who receives much from Proverbs 31 Ministries.

It was eighteen years ago when I first learned about Proverbs 31. My 2nd child had just been born and even though I had a wonderful family and friends, I was lonely. I felt very inadequate as a wife and mom. Proverbs 31 Ministries became my mentor in walking with me daily, guiding and teaching me what a personal relationship with Jesus looked like. I learned how to bring my faith to life for myself and in the lives of my family. I can’t believe I get to be a part of that today. Not only do I work at Proverbs 31 Ministries, but I’m also a monthly partner. I don’t have to give money to this ministry, I GET TO give money to this ministry. And by doing so, I’ve become a small part of bringing God’s peace, purpose, and perspective to the lives of women all across the world. Proverbs 31 Ministries changed my life. My family and I will forever be grateful to God and P31.

Maybe you too have been blessed by Proverbs 31 Ministries.  If so, would you consider joining us? Below are ways you can be a part of all God is doing through P31.

1. Prayer. This is the best thing anyone can do for our ministry. Would you pray for Proverbs 31 Ministries?

  • Pray right now.
  • Pray once a week. (Hey, that’s 52 times a year!)
  • Pray daily.

2. Giving. We are able to do what we do at Proverbs 31 because of the financial gifts God has provided through people like you.  No amount is too small or too big. One dollar helps! When I look at what this community did through Dove’s Nest during our Yes to God study (you all gave over $28,000!!!) all through the combination of small and large gifts, I am still blown away! Never underestimate what God can do through our gifts. Online Bible Studies are possible for FREE to all of us because there are people out there giving to financially support this ministry!

3. Volunteer.

  • Do you live in the Charlotte, NC area?  We need regular volunteers we can count on. Email nicki@proverbs31.org if you can help!

4. Encourage. Ministry can be difficult at times. Our office is always grateful when we hear from our P31 community.

  • Send a card to the P31 office. 630 Team Rd. Suite 100, Charlotte, NC  28105
  • Email a prayer to the P31 office. prayer@proverbs31.org
  • Let us know how P31 has impacted your life. Click here to tell us your story.

Thank you so much for being a part of this OBS community. I love y’all dearly!

Here in the United States we are celebrating Thanksgiving this week. One of the things I’m most thankful for is you. That’s the truth.

Thank you so much for your support! We need you and we truly love our community of women from all over the world. You are a big blessing to me personally and to our entire team and staff.

Do you know what a burpee is?  Until January of this year I did not.

I was on stage with Lysa TerKeurst filming her live webcast for Made to Crave. She asked me to join her so I could talk about the Online Bible Study I was leading for Made to Crave. That was my only reason for being there. Until…

Lysa had a group of people from her boot camp join her for the Made to Crave Challenge. They were challenged to select one healthy change in their lives and make it a discipline for the next six weeks. She asked them, they answered, then she turned the microphone on me. “Melissa, what is your healthy change?” she asked.  “Uhhhh, well I am going to make exercising consistently part of my routine again.”  To which Lysa replied with way too much excitement, “PERFECT! You can join us for boot camp three days a week. You will won’t you?”

Ok, now remember I’m not only caught on the spot, but we are also on LIVE webcast! No retakes or do overs. What else could I say except,  “Sure, I’d love to.”  “Great! We will see you Wednesday and report your progress in a few weeks!”

What in the world had I gotten myself into?

Let me tell you a little about our Body by Buck boot camp.

*It’s the hardest workout I’ve ever done in my life. It changes each time, plenty of variety, hard core, using every muscle in your body, and pushing to the extreme with all kinds of equipment, your own body weight, and cardio to the max. The first time I went, I was exhausted after the first ten minutes and Lysa looked at me and said, “That was just the warm up.” That should have clued me in.

*It’s the most encouraging workout I’ve ever done. Buck and Kelly (our trainers) push us hard, but they are so motivating, encouraging, sweet, and helpful. The others in the class cheer each other on so there is no quitting. Just when you think you can take no more, Kristi will shout from the other side of the room, “Come on Melissa, you can do it…you can do anything for 15 seconds…we got this!”

*It’s early in the morning. It starts at 5:30 am. That’s all I’ll say about that.

*It’s something I thought I’d do for a little bit, to fulfill my commitment to Lysa, then quit. No way. I’m in it for the long haul. It has become an important part of my life: physically, socially, emotionally, and spiritually. And because I know there’s a group waiting on me to show up, I’m going to go. When someone isn’t there, we really miss them.

*I’ve seen improvement in my performance. I still feel like I’m going to die with each workout. During the workout, I admit, I have said the words, “I can’t do this.”  But I have found out that I can. And I’m much better than I was 4 months ago.

*There are all shapes and sizes in our class. Anyone can do boot camp. There are modifications for each exercise. No excuses. I injured my knee falling off of my high heels a few weeks ago. My first thought was, “Oh, now I can’t do boot camp.” WRONG. Modifications were made, I worked out just as hard, and now my knee is all back to normal. (no comment about the falling off high heels please)

*Our least favorite word in boot camp is burpee. Burpees don’t look so hard to watch someone else do them. Take my word for it. They are hard. Try for yourself. (If you can’t see the video below, click here.)

The only difference between my burpee and this girl in the video is I don’t do that split jump, I just jump straight up. Also, I go all the way to the ground on my belly when I go down. Push up occasionally. Go ahead and try them. Have fun 🙂

*Our favorite words in boot camp are “1,2,3…BOOTY CAMP!” Because that signifies the end of class. That’s the call that says, “we did it!”  “we rock!”   “we are changing our bodies!”  “we are strong and healthy!”

Are you doing anything to keep yourself fit?

Thank You :)

To All My Friends Who Have Studied With Me This Year,

Let me just say a big whopping “Thank You” to each of you. Because of you, these online studies have been a huge success. By the end of this year, over 12,000 people will have participated in the online Bible studies that have been featured on my blog. They have grown so much, instead of me leading them by myself, I had to get a team! God has moved in amazing ways in so many lives, including my own. I give all praise and thanks to Him and Him alone and I stand humbled and in awe of His mighty work and power.

Here is what a people are saying about Melissa Taylor’s Online Bible Studies:

“You have encouraged me to be the woman God has created me to be and accept His calling on my life.” ~ Kelly

“I have been inspired to grow and learn in spite of the fact that my life is far from perfect; in spite of the pain that we sometimes must endure.Thank you for everything you do.” ~ Leslie

“I now know my God as friend, accept His grace and forgiveness, and have a true love of studying His Word and having a relationship with Him through it. Most of all, I’ve learned to choose relationship over religion. I’ve been inspired through this online study to find my worth and trust only in Jesus. I’ve also been inspired to be a good wife and mother.” ~ Mary

” I was surviving but not thriving when I first joined your online Bible study. Through the studies I was given something I didn’t think was possible, hope! Hope in my marriage and hope in a relationship with God. Both were nonexistent before.” ~ Angel

“Thank you for your dedication to the online studies. You have made studying the Bible fun! I’ve been encouraged to hold on to hope and not slip into despair. Plus I’ve made so many new friends. I never expected that from an online study. I also love your facebook page!” ~ Joyce

I would love to have you join me again in study. For those of you already signed up, welcome back. This is going to be another fabulous time of growing confident in God’s promises for our lives.

If you are interested in signing up for my next online study, A Confident Heart, by Renee Swope, you can do that in the right column of this blog (under Bible Study Sign Ups).

Quiet Time~You Need Space

***This was originally posted in January, 2011.

Many years ago, I was trying to establish a daily quiet time. There was only 1 problem.  There was no quiet place in my house.

We have 6 people living here, 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a den, a kitchen, and a laundry room.  For me, in order to have  a quiet time that I can have consistently, it has to be early in the morning.  I can’t use my own bedroom because my husband is still sleeping. I can’t use the den because inevitably one of the kids will wake up and want mom for something. When I’m having my quiet time, which equals my time alone with God time, I can’t be disturbed. So, my creative husband, knowing how badly I needed a space to call my own, created that space for me in a very unlikely place.

My quiet time area, or Mama’s Cubby, as it is lovingly referred to at our home, is located in the back of our…laundry room.  Yep, my sweet space is shared with a washer and dryer.  “Lovely” you might say, sarcastically. It’s not the ideal space, but it works. And it’s worked well for ten years.

I think every girl needs her space. A space where you can call your own and you cannot be disturbed unless the person needing you is in severe pain or bleeding. (that’s our rule!)  So ladies, I’d like to share with you, my quiet time area…my cubby…my space:

Just beyond the washer and dryer, lift up the clothes, hanging to dry after being washed, to reveal my space.  This was nonfunctional space. A small narrow area that could not be used for anything really. So, Jeff, put a piece of wood between the 2 walls to make me a desk. On the wall in front of the desk, I have posted pictures, verses, and other inspirations.

Here is a closer look at my work space today. My Bible, my journal, and my cup of coffee.

The wall in front of me.  Pictures, artwork, and many index cards affixed with tape containing verses that keep me going.

Here is one of the index cards with my Grammy’s favorite verse. She died a few years ago.  She was a major influence in my life.

Not everything in my cubby is spiritual.  Here is a newspaper article about the Brad Paisley concert that I attended.  🙂

And Duran Duran.  🙂  (don’t judge me for my taste in music)

Well, lookie here.  My contract that I signed with L.A. Weight Loss 4 years ago.  (great and healthy plan btw…I lost 20 pounds. Unfortunately, when it was all over, I gained the 20 back.  Plus 25 more. Not the plan’s fault. )

I love this.  I know it’s hard to see. It’s a note that my oldest son, Blake, left me to find in the morning when I go to my space.  Can you read what it says?  “Mom, Have a Great Quiet Time This Morning…”  Ain’t he sweet?

That same sweet child, who is now 17, is pictured here with my cutie pie husband.  I love this pic.

And here’s another note of encouragement. This one is from my youngest, Hayley Grace.

Blake wrote this about 5 years ago.  It states what our family believes. I love this because, I communicate this to our kids and hope they get a little of it.  But Blake took it one step further and wrote it all down. We had this on our fridge for about 2 years.

This picture is hanging up in my space. It’s when Hayley Grace was born. This was the first time she met her brothers.

Here is what this space is really all about. A place where I can go and everyone knows not to interrupt me.  I read the Word of God, study it, and discover how it applies to my life. I treasure this.

These are my notes on the Made to Crave study.  I’ve already started preparing.

And from the chair I sit in as I have my quiet time, if I turn around, this is what I see. Clothes hanging up to dry. Beyond these clothes are the washer, dryer, and storage spaces for our family.

I am sharing this with you to hopefully inspire you to find a place of your own. Maybe you already have one. But if you don’t, look for one. You need your own space.  A place where you can meet with God, do your Bible study, pray, and think.

So where do you have your quiet time?  Where do you find some uninterrupted peace and quiet?  If you have a space, please comment and tell us about it.  And if you don’t why not?  What’s keeping you from it?  Kids?  Time?  Space?

Maybe we can share ideas and encourage each other here.

You need your own space. You deserve it.  So find it and claim it!

Have a fabulous day!   🙂
