“This Is All I Have To Give” Blog Hop ~ Week 2

I just finished watching a Hallmark movie with my sister. You know, the modern day fairytale (minus the Cinderella dress) where the girl gets the guy of her dreams and the movie ends with the promise of happily ever after? I love Lysa’s thoughts about these movies in chapter 7:

“Why are we so moved by these love stories? I believe it is because God designed our hearts for an eternal love story, our love story with Jesus.”

She goes on to talk about how so many women are so busy raising kids that they forget their first love and begin to serve Him out of duty. This certainly hits home for me. There was a time in my life when raising kids, volunteering, working and even ministry became my priority above everything. Yes, even my relationship with Jesus.

Fast forward years later and my heart has since been reunited with its first love. But still, life tends to separate us and make me forget this great love story. I have to be intentional about spending time with the lover of my soul. Not out of obligation or duty. Not out of guilt. But out of the desire to know and to be known by Him and to honor Him with everything within me.

I took some time out to spend the weekend reconnecting with a dear friend and God invaded our time. He met us on the couch, He accompanied us on our morning walks, and He sat with us by the pool. He tugged at our heartstrings and breathed fresh into our souls. He whispered reminders of His amazing love and grace and refilled those places life had recently emptied (even the ones we didn’t know about).

collage

So much better than a scripted fairytale!

When we purpose to get still and set distractions aside even for a moment, we can feel His gentle tugging and make the choice to respond to His invitation to draw near. We can find these divine appointments, these God-moments, throughout our day if we choose to see them.

Let’s bend our hearts toward this God who loves us like no other. And let’s say yes to His love story written just for us.

Do you have a God Love Story or a favorite way to refill? Those are two of our three topics for sharing today on the Blog Hop (see list below). We would love to sit down again with you this week as you share your heart through words either on your personal blog, or below in the comment section!

xoxo,

Shelly

Being a Mom Is Tough: Our Featured Blog

At the time I’m actually writing this post, I’m sitting in my big, comfy chair in my living room at midnight. The kids, both big and small, are tucked safely in their beds (plus one on the couch). All is quiet except for the sweet sound of the air conditioner (I’m in Texas, remember?) and an occasional outburst of very loud snoring from my husband (don’t tell him I said so).

This moment in time has been carved out for me to spend with you. I’ve been reading through your comments and blogs from our Week 1 Blog Hop and my heart is so very full.

So many of you shared stories of success and failure, tears and joy, and everything in between. You are so brave and you are what makes this community special.

Thank you for being here. And thank you for sharing your mama stories.

We have randomly selected one blogger to highlight and feature this week. Allow me to introduce you to . . . Stephanie!

It’s tough when you are pregnant and dealing with nausea, pain and every other pregnancy symptom in the book.

It’s tough not worrying about that little life inside your womb for nine months. With all the things that could go wrong, you have to put that worry into God’s hands.

It’s tough when you bring that newborn home and aren’t really sure what to do next.

It’s tough when you’re feeding a newborn all through the night and can’t remember what a good night’s sleep feels like.

It’s tough when your baby gets sick. You wish so bad that you could take the sickness away for them, but you can’t.

It’s tough when your toddler becomes defiant, throws tantrums and tells you no. Figuring out the right way to discipline is hard.

It’s tough when you are potty training and become convinced your child will be in diapers til he is at least 25. (Please note the evidence of this in the picture above!)

It’s tough when your toddler sleeps 12 hours at night and all of the sudden is waking you up at 6 a.m. every morning because “the sky is awake so I am awake.” Thank you Frozen

Being a mom is tough …

But it’s also … (click here to read the rest of Stephanie’s post)

Thank you, Stephanie, for allowing us to share your blog with our community! :)

And thanks again to all of you for a fabulous first week! Are you ready and excited for Week 2?

Enjoy your family this weekend! Let us know what fun things you’re up to and how you’re spending your time together!

And if you have some extra free time, check out some of the other blogs from the Blog Hop! You’ll be surprised at how many other mamas share a story similar to yours. :)

Love y’all!

Shelly

“Being a Mom Is Tough” Blog Hop ~ Week 1

Hey there, mama friends!

Shelly here, coming to you from the heat and humidity of beautiful Southeast Texas! My team and I are excited about leading the blog hop right here every Wednesday for the duration of our study!

Not only am I leading the blog hop, I am also here as a participant. I am a mama of three (Brooke, 21, Taylor, 17, and Logan, 9), and wife of twenty-two years. I am exactly one-fifth of the “Fab Five.” :) Here is our professional family portrait that hides all of our imperfections (complaining, arguing, stress and TORTURE of taking a family pic – anybody know what I’m talking about?).

You would think after this many years on the job I’d have this mama thing down and everything would run smoothly. The truth is I’m at a place with my two eldest where I find myself looking back, wondering if I did enough right as they prepare to start their adult lives. This kind of pressure can weigh heavy on a mama’s heart.

My mind (and the enemy of my soul) likes to remind me how many mistakes I have made on this journey that began as a very young 19-year-old mother.

I LOVE being a mama. But yes, sometimes it has been (and still is) so, so tough.

I, too, desperately need this community.

So, today, I echo Lysa’s words in praying for ALL of us. I’m praying that this book, paired with the Word of God and encouragement from all our stories shared, “is just the adventure your soul (and mine) needs to look at motherhood with more joy than ever before.” That we will begin to look at our role with “a refilled heart, a refueled approach, a a renewed perspective, and a soul that feels refreshed.” And that no matter where we find ourselves on the timeline of mothering, we can “be encouraged and empowered to be the mom God knows you (and I) can be.”

We’re keeping this week’s blog hop simple. We just want to pull up a chair and listen as you share your mama story. We want to love you right where you are. We want you to know we understand. We get it. And you are not alone.

If you don’t have a blog, please feel free to share below in the comment section.

Now, let’s get this Blog Hop started!

Limitless Life Blog Hop – Week 4

P31 OBS Blog Hop

Sweet, beautiful, Jesus-loving friends,

I have good news today. God is doing great things! And He is totally setting us up in this study.

I think every label we’ve thrown off and replaced thus far runs us smack dab into the middle of Chapter Eight this week: From Purposeless to Purposeful.

Every label of defeat we remove and every label of promise we put on reveal another part of who we are in Christ. And the more we discover our identity, the clearer our purpose becomes.

Thousands of women armed with purpose, knowledgeable and secure in their identity in Christ, can change the world around them.

Isn’t that exciting?!

That’s YOU, my friend. You can change your world.

We’re not here to build a social club. We are here to link arms with our sisters far and wide and make a difference. This is about Kingdom building.

Today, we are using our voices to make a difference by sharing our words, our testimonies, and most importantly the powerful, life-changing, life-giving, life-sustaining Word of God. Each blog represents an arm reaching out to its own community, its own sphere of influence.

We were reminded in Chapter Seven and on the blog Tuesday that we are ambassadors. His mission is our mission.

And today is filled with divine possibilities.

Time to represent, girls! Let’s do this!

Speaking and acting on behalf of our King,

Shelly
