"Brand New - Bible Study Class” by Melissa Taylor | Proverbs 31 Bible Study Class | #P31BibleStudyClass #IKnowHisNameHey OBSers!

I know we are right in the middle of our Becoming More OBS, but I wanted to share something that begins in just a few weeks that you just might be interested in.

Yesterday, we opened registration for our brand new I Know His Name: Discovering the Power in the Names of God Bible Study Class! I know you might be thinking, “Hold on, Melissa. What do you mean by Bible Study Class?” Great question because this is different from our regular OBS. Here’s the 411:

This FREE Bible Study Class will run March 7 through April 8. It will provide you the opportunity to get in-depth biblical teaching, where you’ll go from simply knowing about God to really knowing God. The author of I Know His Name, Wendy Blight, will teach us how His different Names reveal who He is.

We’ve heard from some of you who really want to go deeper in your Bible Study, but still want the flexibility to connect with God wherever, and whenever, you choose. So that’s why we created this optional Bible Study Class. Feel free to invite a friend who’s considered OBS, but wanted a more intense study!

In this class you’ll learn to:

  • Equip yourself with seven tools for praying more confidently and effectively in any situation
  • Unveil God’s character, name by name, so you can live with confidence that God sees, hears and knows you by name
  • Transform how you pray and interact with God as you meet Him in the pages of His Word

You're invited!!! Learn more and sign up for the Proverbs 31 Ministries, I Know His Name Bible Study Class here --> | #P31BibleStudyClass #IKnowHisNameNow, this study is a bit different than a typical P31 OBS, so here’s some important information to help clear up any questions:

Bible Study Skills: Word Study – Grace

IMG_20150129_175546 (1)Hi everyone! It’s Melissa Sherlin with the Bible Study Skills team here. I’m so excited to be with you for The Mended Heart study! So far this week we’ve been discussing what we don’t have to do. One thing that really struck a chord in my own heart is the fact that we don’t have to earn God’s love. Is that as hard for some of you to believe as it was for me?

Ephesians 2:8 says, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith — and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.” (NIV)

Suzie Eller tells us in Chapter 1 that she has the word “grace” in the Hebrew text tattooed on her wrist to remind her of this fact.

To be honest, the whole idea of grace in any language once seemed completely foreign to me. And while I’m still being honest with you, I’ll admit that I was a bit skeptical that there could be a loving God of the world who loved me in spite of all of the bad things I had done (or the things that had been done to me). However, that skepticism sent me to the Bible to see for myself if what I felt deep down in my heart is true.

“Our role is to accept His love, and then to allow that love to lead us to love others. It’s a grace-drenched existence wrapped around relationship.” ~ Suzie Eller, “The Mended Heart”  (paperback p. 30)

Our foundation for beginning the mending process is found in accepting the grace of God. What does that mean really? We sing of amazing grace, we hear of grace in almost every Christian song or church sermon, we may say grace before we eat a meal, but do we really grasp the power of God’s grace?

Let’s do a word study of the word Grace.

  • Define the word ~ If your Bible has a dictionary or concordance in the back, look up the word “grace.” (By the way, a “concordance” is an alphabetical list of topics you can find in the Bible, with matching verses for each subject. It probably says something to the effect of God’s free and unmerited favor. )

That’s true, but I still think to fully understand the power of God’s grace we need to dig a little deeper and see the significance of God’s grace in every aspect of our lives.

Are you a skeptic like me when someone offers you a “free gift”? I am a read-the-fine-print kind of girl. In this case, the fine print is the Bible.

  • Do a key word search ~ Use or use a Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance. Depending on which translation of the Bible you are using, the word “grace” is mentioned over 100 times in the Old and New Testaments. (Almost 170 times in the King James Version.) You’ll find the word “grace” is found throughout the Bible — from Genesis all the way to the very last verse of the entire Bible, found in Revelation!
  • Start reading ~ Start reading some of the Scriptures where the word “grace” is found. Ask questions of the text to understand the who, what, why and where? Of course, you don’t have to look up all 170 verses on “grace” at one time! Take your time and allow the truth of God’s Word to soak into your heart and mind.
  • Take Note ~ As you begin to search the Scriptures for “grace,” God is going to reveal parts of His character and His love to you that will lead you to desire a deeper relationship with our loving and merciful God. Take note of these things in a journal or notebook, so you can pray about them and process your thoughts and feelings.

Use this FREE PRINTABLE to do a key word study with any word, click the download now button below!

One of my favorite scriptures about grace is 2 Corinthians 12:9, “But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” (NIV)

This verse tells me God’s grace is going to be our strength through all of these places in our hearts that seem impossible to mend, and that gives me hope!

Keep It Shut, Week 5

Picture of ErinHello friends!

It’s Erin Peters here with you today. Can you believe we are starting Week 5 already? Hasn’t it just flown by with the fabulous content in this book, as well as some powerful teaching here on the blog!

So without further ado, let’s take a look at this video from Melissa Taylor, Nicki Koziarz and #KeepItShutBook author Karen Ehman to help kick off Week 5.

Please click here if you can’t view the video on your email.

I just love those ladies and so enjoy watching them interact!

Here’s a fun fact about me. I wear contacts with a very strong prescription. If I’m not wearing my lenses or my glasses, life is very blurry and my surroundings are unrecognizable. It’s usually not a problem except in the middle of the night or first thing in the morning. My husband is helpful, but he has the same vision problem I do. We are literally the blind leading the blind!

Doesn’t that remind you of what we can end up doing when trying to “help” someone else with our words when we should really be taking care of our own problems first? One of the things Karen shares in the beginning of Chapter 9 is, “Mind your own sin, sweetheart.”

Doesn’t that make you just wince a little? I sure did, because oh how I have been guilty of this very mistake far too many times!

But friends, will you join me in trying something new? Will you stop before giving advice or “just being helpful”? Let’s pray God will show us our own areas of clean-up, before we try to help others see where they need to clean up a bit.

Ready for the P31 OBS Lowdown?

Memory Verse:

“‘In your anger do not sin’: do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.” ~ Ephesians 4:26-27

  • Monday —  This week we are only reading one chapter. It’s Chapter 9, “Hurling Hate or Healing Hearts.” I have to be honest in saying that the title alone made me stop and think, “What else does Karen have to say?” Honestly, my toes are still tender from the previous chapters!
  • Tuesday — Nicki will be guiding us and featuring this week’s video clip from the Keep It Shut DVD.
  • Wednesday — Melisa Sherlin will be here to bring us this week’s Bible Study Skills feature.
  • Thursday — Nicki returns to bring more insight into Chapter 9.
  • Friday — I’ll be back to wrap-up our discussion for the week.

Optional (but awesome) events:

  • Monday —  Join Melissa TONIGHT at 8 p.m. EST on the Keep It Shut Conference Call series as she talks to Dr. Emerson Eggerichs (author of the national bestseller, Love & Respect) and then reveals Step 4 in making our words matter!  To learn more or get the Call Series, click here.
  • Thursday — #P31OBS Bible Study LIVE, from 8-9 p.m. EST on Facebook. (This fast-paced hour of Bible Study will have you flipping the pages of your Bible and craving more with each question! It’s a great way to get to know other OBSers, too!)  For more information, click here.

Let’s Chat:

  • Do you recall a time when you “helped” someone with a problem when you should have taken care of your own problems first?
  • What do you do to beat the Monday blahs?

Who Needs a Treat?

I do! I do!  Oh my gracious, as we’ve wandered through this week wishing we had more to give, wondering if it’s enough and if we are even noticed, I hope we’ve settled to a new place.

A place of comfort, but not complacency.
A place of forgiveness but not hopelessness.
A place of peace knowing that God sees, God cares, and He loves us and believes in us as moms.

As I write that, my heart is so thankful.

Our final chapter of our second week is titles Is It Wrong to Treat Myself?  Well what do you think, is it?

Just like a car needs gas to refuel and run, we need to refuel so we can run. Often the best way to refuel is to treat yourself! So do it, because if you don’t, chances are no one else will~ haha.

Lysa TerKeurst provided us with a few ideas, like making ourselves a care package. You know something like you might make for your kid at camp, or your college student. Little things, enclosed with love, so they know you love them.

Write down a few of your favorite things and make yourself a treat! Then thank God that these treats make you so happy! (Care package idea on page 77 of the paperback)

Today we are announcing a “treat” for one of our awesome participants. Many entered, but only one could win. We wish it could be the other way around. Listen up as Nicki Koziarz, Kristy Aiken and I announce our big winner of the Real Life Dreams OBS Retreat live from the Proverbs 31 She Speaks Conference!

If you can’t see our exciting announcement on the video above, click here to view on You Tube. 🙂

Let’s Chat:

Take the challenge to treat yourself ladies! Can you do that?  In the comment section, share how you will treat yourself very soon! Maybe you could even ask for an early birthday or Christmas present and join us at the Real Life Dreams OBS Retreat in Asheville, NC~ hmmmm….just sayin’!
