Did you finish? {Weekly Recap Week 6}

You did it!!

If you are reading this post, you made it to the very end of our Unglued study. I’m so proud of you!

But don’t fret, if you missed something, we have your weekly recap ready! Here’s what we did this week:

  • On Monday we kicked off our last OBS Today Show and Lysa TerKeurst revealed what on earth Meg Helms was doing behind the scenes!
  • For our Bible study skill, Christa Hutchins led us through the last letter of our acronym P.R.A.Y … and I think this post was a favorite for many!
  • We read the last chapters of Unglued: 11 & 12!
  • Our last Bible Study Live Event of the YEAR was off-the-charts amazing! And you can still read through all the questions and comments by going here.
  • And yesterday Katrina Wylie wrapped up our Unglued discussion here on the blog!

Don’t forget to read the last few pages of the book — there’s some really great information in the Epilogue!

As we wrap up this study, Lysa TerKeurst has some powerful words to leave with us.

Click here if you cannot see the video from your email.

“Sow right choices that honor God.” ~ Lysa TerKeurst

That was HUGE for me. Each day we make our choices and then, like Lysa has taught us … our choices make us.

Thank you so much for joining us for this study and we hope you’ll be back for our next study, Becoming More Than A Good Bible Study Girl! Invite a friend and sign up here!!

See you soon!

Much love,

Nicki Koziarz

A Hush of Hope

Katrina Wylie - Study LeaderHi friends, Katrina Wylie here. And I have a confession to make!

Here we are at the end of our study and I messed up BIG. I came unglued with my kiddo. Not once, twice, or even three times, but FOUR times yesterday! … And in public!! … Sigh.

While I wasn’t completely unglued, it was still more than enough to leave my mama mind reeling in shame!

You know what though? God didn’t leave me there. When I woke up this morning and sat down with my Unglued book, He led me here:

Chapter 12 Unglued Quote

And sweet tears fell as a hush of hope, rather than condemnation, gently landed on my heavy heart.

Isn’t it relieving to know the condemning thoughts we hear aren’t the Lord’s voice?

God showed me today how condemnation seizes us, causing our hearts to get stuck in the yuck of our emotions. But conviction releases us by launching us INTO motion — into actions like this one Lysa TerKeurst shares in Chapter 12:

“If things are ever going to get better, we have to acknowledge our underbellies that fuel our unglued reactions. We may not like what we see, but at least we’ll know what we’re dealing with. We can call it what it is and ask God to help us.”

When I look at my “underbelly,” I realize the source of my reactions wasn’t my kiddo’s behavior. Instead, they were rooted in an unsettling situation that, because I hadn’t taken it to God, was being rubbed raw by all my kiddo’s 6-year-old silliness!

Sad, right?

It’s OK to say yes. Truth be told, our unglued reactions cause real hurt. BUT, hope can come in and turn our sad to glad when we allow God’s conviction to move us forward, taking another step closer, toward holiness.

In my case, that means having a heart-to-heart with my kiddo, asking forgiveness, and with God, asking for help with my unsettling situation.

What does your step forward look like this week?

Let’s decide, friends, to grab hold of this “hush of hope” we find in God’s convictions, so that we can all step forward from sad to glad in our sticky situations! Agreed?

And speaking of sticky, I have one more thing for you — the promised sticky bun recipe! (If you missed it, this was in Monday’s OBS Today Show video.) Yum!!

What better way to wrap up this study then with a hush of hope in our hearts (thank you, Lord!) and some sticky sweetness for our stomachs this Christmas season! Enjoy! 🙂

Let’s Chat:

Observe — Take a moment to peer into the “underbelly” of one of your recent unglued reactions. What hidden source did you find there?

Yielding to Rest

ChristaHey, OBSers! Christa Hutchins here, bringing us home for the last week of Bible Study Skills.

We’ve been working on the acronym P.R.A.Y. and we’re ending with YIELD — yield to what God’s showing us through our study of His Word.

It’s quite ironic we’re talking about yielding in the same week we’re covering Sabbath in Chapter 11 of Unglued by Lysa TerKeurst. Sabbath rest  — God’s instruction to step back, as He did in our verse this week, from all of our doing. It’s been popping up repeatedly for me recently.  And have I listened? Honestly, I’ve refused to yield.2015_OBS_UNG_Verse_week6_Square_Genesis

Sabbath. Not just a day to rest. But an attitude. A willingness for God to work in the margins of my life. Or as Lysa describes in Chapter 11, space for my soul to exhale. It sounds lovely, doesn’t it?

Oh, I start with the best of intentions. Every Friday I say to my too-busy self, “This!  THIS is the weekend that I will enjoy some Sabbath.”

But then Sunday night comes and, looking ahead to another bustling week, I once again have spent the entire weekend at full tilt, totally consumed by projects and activities.

And the part of my soul that is still longing to exhale creeps off to the corner of my heart, hoping NEXT weekend will be different.

I so need God’s Word to invade this part of my life. Maybe you do, too. But will we truly be able to do it in this busiest time of the year?

Here’s an idea to help us. I’ve personalized a list of 20 verses on rest and Sabbath, cut them out and put them in a cute box. These are scripture boxes that our O-Team has made for themselves or as gifts for friends in the past. Some are fancy and some are simple, but they are all filled with God’s Word!

Whenever I need to remind myself that it’s time to breathe, I can grab a scripture out of my box.

And you can, too, by downloading the verses about rest to print out for yourself.

Or, use this as a Microsoft Word file with instructions on how to personalize them before you print.

Decorating the container is the most fun part! Get creative and make your box something you’ll want to keep near.

Then linger over each verse as you place it in the container. Perhaps you’ll find, as I did, your heart will begin to yield to the sweet comfort God has made available. And you’ll put away the scissors, glue and scraps of paper, cuddle up in your most comfy chair, and rest.

Let’s Chat:

Observe — In what area has God called you to yield through your study of His Word?

Bible  Create your own list of helpful verses to remind you to yield.  Share a couple of them with us.

Stretch  Make a Scripture box for yourself, or as a gift, as a reminder to yield during the Christmas season.

#HolidaySurvivalGiveaway — Comments that answer the Let’s Chat questions will be entered to win this week! Details in your Weekly Lowdown.

I’ll be on Periscope TONIGHT at 9 p.m. ET,  chatting about P31 OBS, holidays and rest. Follow @mckdbooks to join in! Can’t wait to see you!
