Made to Crave, Online Bible Study

Before you read one more word here, I’m going to do something that will take you away from my blog today.  That is risky because you may not come back and I REALLY want you to come back.  But I’m so excited about Lysa TerKeurst’s new book, Made to Crave, that I’m going to do it anyway.

Right now, I want you to go visit the brand new Made to Crave website. www.MadetoCrave.org. After you’ve explored over there, please come back so I can tell you about an upcoming online Bible study, taking place right here beginning in January.

************************************************************************

So, how did you like it?  If you’ve read much from me, you know that food (weight, guilt, etc) has been an issue for me practically my entire life!  I’ve tried numerous food and diet plans, most of which worked.  The only problem was that later, when I finished the plan, went through a difficult time in my life, or just reverted to old ways, the weight would come back. Then guilt sets in. Then I set new goals and repeat the vicious cycle.  Not only is this unhealthy, but it’s also frustrating and defeating.  And I’m pretty sure God doesn’t want me living me life this way.

Confession:  I have craved food more than God.

Confession:  I have enjoyed a bowl of ice cream when I was sad, even though I should have been on my knees in prayer.  (I’ve eaten a whole pizza too.  And had chips and dip.)

Confession:  Food isn’t the only thing I’ve craved more than God.  I’ve craved better relationships with certain people in my life.

Confession:  I have placed my self-worth in my weight and appearance instead of my identity in Christ.

Confession:  I have placed my self-worth in what someone has said to me or about me instead of what God says to me and about me.

Confession:  I am sorry for this.  And I’m ready to do something about it.  A gift to myself right here at Christmas time. I was made to crave something much better.

If you can relate to any of this, maybe you’d like to join me in my very first online Bible Study.  If so, I will be your Bible study leader.  Not only will I be your leader though, but I’ll be on the journey with you. Together, I’m sure we can accomplish our God-sized dreams and goals.  I’ll be here for you and hopefully you’ll be there for me too!  Here are the details:

There is a suggested fee of $10 to participate in these calls. See the Online Bible Study Info section of this blog if interested in this option.

If you are interested in participating in this study, sign up in the sidebar of this blog or on the Online Bible Study Info page in the space provided. This way you’ll receive updated information about the study straight to your email.

Continue to check the Online Bible Study Info section of this blog for updates and information on this study and future studies.

For those of you who are not interested in the online study, on days when I don’t blog about the study, I will continue to write just like I’ve been doing for the past 3 years, sharing life with you.

I’m so excited about this and I hope many of you are too.  I look forward to hearing from you.

Blessings and Love to you from me!

Online Bible Studies

“I think it’s one of the best things someone can do for themselves.” ~ Melissa Taylor

It’s changed my life time and time again. I’ve grown closer to God, closer to the ones I’m with, and made lifelong friends.  I’ve learned to be content and now I know what freedom feels like. I have hope even when my relationships and circumstances are failing. What am I talking about? I’m talking about the benefits of joining and participating in a Bible study group. Not just any Bible study group, but a real life, real problems, no mask wearing allowed Bible study group.  One where you can be yourself and know that you are loved and cared for NO MATTER WHAT.

Bible study has been a priority in my life for years. The women I’ve studied with have become like sisters and have been the Jesus with skin on I’ve needed in my life. They’ve encouraged me, held me accountable,  and spoken real Truth to me when I’ve needed it most. Through the books we’ve studied together (all based on the best book, the Bible), we’ve grown in many ways, but especially in our personal relationship with Jesus. Life changing I tell ya!

I want to share this experience with you.  If you’ve wanted to be a part of something like this, I invite you to join me and other women just like us, from all over the world as we dive into the Truth that will give us Real Hope for Real Life today.

You can join me for one, two, or all of the upcoming studies I’ll be leading online this year. I look forward to getting to know you and studying God’s Word as we apply it to our lives together.

Love and Blessings,

Melissa

I Have Failed Again and Again

I have to be totally honest with you.  I’m a failure.

Sure, I’ve had my successes, but they haven’t lasted. Not all of them anyway.

This is especially true in the area of weight management.  I’ve written devotions and numerous blog posts over the years about this very thing.  When my weight is down, I feel like I have “it” all together.  And when my weight is up, I feel like I want to hide. I know my identity is not in how I look or what I weigh. I’m just telling you the truth, keepin’ in real.

I’ve been on so many diets.  These are the ones that come to mind:  Nutri-System, Weight Watchers, LA Weight Loss, Atkins, and the Belly Fat Cure.  I’ve had success on each of these.  Once I even got down to 119 pounds. That is surely successful, right?  Well, sure it WAS…only now that 119 has added 50.  Not so successful anymore.  Now, not only is it unsuccessful, but it’s downright embarrassing.  See the picture of me on this blog?  That is skinny me 4 years ago.  (For more realistic pics of me today, friend me on Facebook).  I am changing the pic of me on this blog soon, but honestly I like that picture.  If I put a new picture of me up, you might not like me so much.  (not true I know!)  Just expressing honest thoughts.

Now I just want to give this disclaimer:  I don’t think there is anything wrong with weight loss/management programs.  I really do think they all have their health benefits and values. I think they can provide health education, tools to succeed, and a great plan.  You may agree or disagree with them.  The problem with these programs I’ve been on however is not with them…it’s with me.

Made to Crave.

In a way, I want to avoid this book.  If I avoid it, I can just keep on playing ignorant.  I can just blame my failure on the diet.  But if I’m truthful, is it really the diet or my own lack of discipline?  My own choice to turn to food instead of my True Comforter?

Honestly, I’m not sure and that’s exactly why I’m excited about doing Lysa TerKeurst’s newest Bible Study, Made to Crave.

I’ve seen Lysa over the years.  I’ve seen her struggle with her weight and self image in the past and  I’ve seen her content in the present.  I want what she has now.  By that I don’t mean the body or weight on the scale.  I want what makes her content.  And that has nothing to do with what she eats.  It has to do with what she craves.  It is all about God.  That’s what Made to Crave is all about.

I’m leading an Online Bible Study beginning in January on this very thing.  I would love to have you join me.  I want to help you and for sure I can use all the help I can get!  Together I believe we can get to the root of our food issues for once and for all.  We can begin to crave our Creator…our God…our Jesus…and put that chips and dip back on the shelf.  Aren’t you sick of living this failure in life attitude?  Aren’t you tired of trying so darn hard?   I know I am.

Maybe it’s not food that’s your issue.  It might be something else.  If you are craving anything else above God, then I invite you to join me in 6 weeks of transformation with the Made to Crave Online Bible Study.  See the Online Bible Study Info section of this blog for information on how to participate.

As we enter into Christmas, do not feel guilty for anything you’ve done.  This is a new beginning.  A fresh start.

Bible Study Participants, Your 1st Assignment begins today:  Drop the failure attitude. No more of this talk allowed. Wipe these statements out of your vocabulary NOW!  “I’m a failure.”  “I’m a loser.”  “I can’t do anything right.”  “What’s wrong with me?”   “I’m not going to be able to do this.”  (Add your own….these are mine!)   Replace those thoughts with this Truth from  Psalm 139:14:

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.

Repeat that each time any failing or negative thought about yourself comes into your head. Even if you don’t feel just do it.

Together we can make our God-sized dreams come true.

Christmas Blessings and Lots of Love <3
