Putting the Fun in Your Bible Study – OBS Options!

“Listen, Love, Repeat” Study Leader, Kendra Schwarz | Proverbs 31 Online Bible Studies | #ListenLoveRepeat #P31OBSHi! I’m Kendra Schwarz, the creative content coordinator for Proverbs 31 Online Bible Studies. I’m all about fun. But when it comes to using the word “fun” with “Bible study,” I used to be a bit skeptical. Can Bible study be fun?

Well I’m about to show you YES, it sure can! Are you ready? It’s time to discover all of the fun options we have here at P31 OBS. And here’s the best part: Everything is optional (even reading the book, though we don’t advise skipping that part – haha).

Because all of these options are to help “sweeten” up your Bible study experience, below is a video that explains the options! Let’s just say it has to do with waffles, chocolate chips and whipped cream … click here to watch

Oh and fun fact! All of our videos are transcribed. Click here for instructions on how to turn on Closed Captioning..

Option #1: We are family (I got all my sisters with me!)
Here at P31 OBS, we are one, big, happy family. We join in community on our blog and on social media. We’d love for you to join us on all, or a few different, community-building platforms.

Option #2: Bible Study PDF’s
This is a NEW option in OBS, and we’re so happy you’re our first group of ladies to go through these with us! Every Tuesday and Thursday on the blog, you’ll receive a Bible study PDF to work through, based on a chapter of the Listen, Love, Repeat book. This does not replace the book, but it’s something we’ve made to accompany it, to help you dig deeper into God’s Word, if you choose.

Option #3: Teaching Series
This is the ONLY option that costs money (other than buying the trade book). The Listen, Love, Repeat Teaching Series is based on the letters written by Paul. We’ll learn how to encourage those God has entrusted to us. You’ll get more info about this option next week.

Option #4: Bible Study LIVE
We have a fast-paced and fun way to do Bible study! And do you want to know the best part? You can do it right on Facebook. Bible Study LIVE is an hour-long study session with your fellow OBSers. Sign me up! Below are the links to each event.

The “Why” Behind Our Next Study

“Listen, Love, Repeat” Study Leader, Nicki Koziarz | Proverbs 31 Online Bible Studies | #ListenLoveRepeat #P31OBS

Hi OBSers (old and new)! I’m Nicki Koziarz, and I’m here to tell you the “why” behind our next study, Listen, Love, Repeat! Hopefully after we’re through, you’ll join me (if you haven’t already signed up).

I remember the day Karen Ehman called to tell me about this concept she was working on for her next book. I was in my bedroom folding clothes, fighting back the tears as she was talking. I knew this message was exactly what our world was going to need.

And as soon as I hung up the phone with her I thought … I want THAT.

That ability to listen, love and repeat it daily, endlessly and with a whole heart.

We have such an opportunity right now. It seems like there’s a lot of darkness around.

But it’s in the darkest places where people who love God have the best opportunity … to shine the brightest!

The atmosphere can change in any room we walk into. We can be the hope others need so much. We can bring the movement of being the goodness of Jesus to our world!

So today, I want to take those three words: Listen, Love, Repeat … and share with you how they are encouraging me to do this:

LISTEN:
We are so busy! We’ve convinced ourselves that to be busy is to be effective. So I love that this message is challenging me to stop and LISTEN to the world around me. Listen to what others are in need of, listen to what others love so I can love them well and listen to the prompts God is putting in my heart.

LOVE:
And as I’m listening well, I’m discovering what it really means to LOVE others well. Not the way I want to love them, but the way they need to be loved. There’s a difference. And most of the time the latter is a little more stretching, because it makes me stop thinking of MYSELF.

REPEAT:
Do we ever get this thing totally right? Are we ever finished living a life of listening and loving? No! There’s always more room for God to stretch our arms a little wider. So, REPEAT. And REPEAT. And … repeat.

“Zoe Life”

“Finding I AM” Study Leader, Brenda Earley | Proverbs 31 Online Bible Studies | #FindingIAM #P31OBS

Hey,  y’all, It’s here … Wednesday … WOW! This week is going by soooo fast! Brenda here, excited to spend this special day with y’all, just you and me,  and a personal story of mine.

Mmmm, remember Monday’s video? In it, Lysa TerKeurst shared how the one thing she loved was Jesus’ pictures for these “I AM” statements. And because I love pictures too, here’s one for us to visualize the story I have for us today.

Meet my niece, Zoe:

"Zoe Life" by Brenda Earley I Proverbs 31 Online Bible Studies I #FindingIAM #P31OBS

Earlier, in our “Meet Your Study Leaders” video, we each shared the meanings of our names. Names have significance. They can speak character, integrity, personality …

Well, the name “Zoe” means “life.” Just like our “I AM” statement this week. How cool is that?

My niece’s life, however, didn’t begin 100% normal. After a blood test, the doctor’s didn’t give her much hope! Feelings of fear and sadness marked her life. I remember praying and speaking the Name of Jesus, Life Giver, over her precious body. But did you know that, by saying her name, we were speaking the very essence of Jesus’ “Zoe life” into her body? Remarkable, huh?

Like this quote from this week’s reading says:

“Even if our circumstances aren’t good, God’s purpose always is.”

"Even if our circumstances aren't good, God's purpose always is." - Lysa TerKeurst #FindingIAM | Proverbs 31 Online Bible Studies Week 4 #P31OBS

Now meet Zoe Alexis, our Life Defender … Although my niece is almost 12 years old now, isn’t this the cutest pic? I think so!

“Zoe Life” by Brenda Earley | Proverbs 31 Online Bible Studies | #FindingIAM #P31OBS

You know what? She did exactly what her name, Zoe Alexis, means. And her health issues? They didn’t have the final say, actually, but God did! He took Zoe’s life and created purpose the very day she was born. Just like He did for you and me.

Today, I want to leave you an encouraging word, if I may? When you became God’s child, He wrapped you with purpose. With life. He gave you His Life. So when circumstances don’t look pleasing, let’s remember they’re not the final destination. Let’s speak life. Because His Life has the final say!

Let’s Chat:

What’s one area of your life you can speak “Zoe Life” into today?

P.S. Don’t miss today’s optional Teaching Series call @ 11 a.m. ET with Whitney Capps and then, Bible Study LIVE on Thursday @ 8 p.m. ET with Melis Chambers. Both are sure to bring a little “life” into your step this week!

The Lord is My Shepherd

"Finding I AM" Study Leader, Angela Diemer| Proverbs 31 Online Bible Studies | #FindingIAM #P31OBSHello, it’s Angela back with you one last time, as we wrap our I AM statements for this week. I hope, like me, you’ve made some new connections on how Jesus is both our Gate and our Good Shepherd.

It’s Friday — YAY! Which means we’ll be sharing the next video session taught by Lysa TerKeurst. We’re watching Session 4 today, where Lysa brings to life all we’ve learned this week.

In today’s video, Lysa is teaching on a mountaintop in the Judean Hills of Israel. And you’ll see why she referenced in Monday’s video how fearful she was to film it. I’d be nervous too, standing on a ledge of a mountain. But it’s in these mountains where Lysa weaves the scriptures and imagery beautifully together on on how a Good Shepherd takes care of his sheep. Ultimately, it’s where Jesus reveals:

“I AM the good shepherd.” (John 10:11a, NIV)

John 10:11 (NIV) "I AM the Good Shepherd." | Proverbs 31 Online Bible Studies | Week 3 Verse | #FindingIAM #P31OBS

Now, if you haven’t finished the book work for this week, it’s OK. Don’t let that stop you from watching. We want you to see this! The Finding I AM teaching videos will only be available here until March 10, 2017.

Enjoy the teaching! Then come join me in the Let’s Chat section afterwards. And don’t forget, closed captioning is available. Click here for instructions on how to access it.

If you can’t view the video above, click here to view on YouTube.

Let’s Chat:

The Good Shepherd has good plans for us, but we have to let Him lead us. Is this something hard for you to do? What have you learned this week to help you with letting go and allowing Him to lead you?

Keeping Jesus As Our Gate

"Finding I AM" Study Leader, Angela Diemer | Proverbs 31 Online Bible Studies | #FindingIAM #P31OBSHey there, Angela here again. We’ve made it to the mid-point of the study. And I’m pumped up because you’re still here desiring to know more about Jesus. Let’s keep seeking!

I don’t know about you, but I’ve learned some interesting things about sheep this week. They’re not the smartest animals, but fluffy.

Because, I’m a visual learner, seeing the picture Lysa shared on Day 2 (page 76) of what an actual sheep gate looked like was helpful to me. Knowing there wasn’t a door on the enclosure gave me a new understanding why the shepherd had to take his post to be on constant alert for thieves and wild animals. Like Scripture says, in John 10:10a (NLT),

“The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy.”

Sometimes, it can be a subtle thought we begin to dwell on. Then one thought multiplies into more, and before we know it we’re stressed out, confused and depressed. The enemy plays sneak attacks against our minds. Attempting to steal our joy and peace.

I’ll admit, I’ve been duped liked this before. Recently, I got myself all bent out of shape with comparing my situation to someone else’s, without even knowing their full story. I wanted what they had. And I allowed the wrong thoughts to get into my mind. Like Lysa TerKeurst shares in Finding I AM:

“The enemy knows if he can isolate us, he can intimidate us. Confuse us. Deceive us.”

I confess, desires of the flesh can get me all out of whack, feeling like a sheep who’s wandered off the path. This is why I loved the picture of the Sheep Gate showing no door. Our mind doesn’t have a physical door either, but it’s the gate to our thoughts.

Learning about the I AM statements this week taught me I must keep Jesus at the Gate of my mind, allowing the Good Shepherd to guide me back to His truths found in the scriptures. Or, like Lysa puts it:

“We must let the truth seep deep into the longings of our soul. Otherwise lies are prone to creep into this place of desire.”

"We must let the truth seep deep into the longings of our soul. Otherwise lies are prone to creep into this place of desire." -Lysa TerKeurst #FindingIAM | Proverbs 31 Online Bible Studies Week 3 #P31OBS

I’m so thankful we have a Good Shepherd who has good things for us. Which brings me to the second, and my favorite part of John 10:10b (NIV):

“I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

This isn’t a pinky swear type of promise … It’s A YES and AMEN promise! And this blessed life can only be obtained through a life with Jesus as we allow Him to be the Gate and Good Shepherd of our heart, soul and mind.

Blessings,

Angela
