Right on Time

Play

This past week I was facing a fairly overwhelming deadline.

I had several major projects due, and the prospect of getting them all done on time was going to take a major move of God. One project in particular just kind of stalled out.

I called a few girlfriends and asked them to pray. The last morning before it was due, I was hit with an influx of creative ideas. Two hours later the project was finished with only some minor details to wrap up.

Friends, that’s just like God. He is never late. But in my experience, He is rarely early. I think He is teaching us to trust Him rather than rest on our own sufficiency or timetable.

A Heavy, Holy Assignment

Play

My Dad has been my pastor my entire life.

All told, my parents have been serving the church in pastoral ministry for more than 40 years. Can I share with you a bit of behind the scenes secrets of a family in ministry?

Being a pastor and pastor’s wife is crazy hard. They weep privately with families in pain. They personally feel the sting and heartache every time a family leaves our church. Dad bears the weight and pressure of problems that most of the rest of the church has no idea are even there.

I’m not asking you to feel sorry for your pastor and his family. God has called, equipped and is sustaining them. But please, please pray for your pastor and their spouse.

Theirs is a heavy and holy assignment. Our prayers are our part to help shoulder their burden.

Personal Prayers

Play

“God is great. God is good. Let us thank Him for our food…”. This is the little prayer my boys say before we eat.

It was the sweetest thing, but a couple of weeks ago I told them I wanted them to start saying their own blessings. I wanted them to think about what they were grateful for and what they wanted to say to God.

My son Ryder asked “Why can’t we just say the same thing every time?” I asked him “Would you say the same three sentences to your best friend every time you guys hang out?”

Prayers are just our conversations with God. Practice may not make perfect, but practice makes our prayers more powerful and personal. It was a good reminder for me, too.

How about you? Are you practicing your prayers and getting to know God better through your conversations with Him?
