Have you ever heard someone say, “The Lord helps those who help themselves”?

I have, and for a long time, I just assumed that it was somewhere tucked in one of the crisp, rarely read pages of my Bible. But you know what? That’s actually not in the Bible!

For real. In fact, the overwhelming message of God’s story is that He helps those who are powerless to help themselves. And more to the point, those who try to help themselves often end up in a mess further from God than when they started.

Let’s lean into His grace to help the helpless. Do we have work to do? Sure. We don’t do it all, but we don’t do nothing, either. Let’s live in that tension of waiting on God and working when and how He leads.
