I Can't Hear You

From time to time, our boys will wear headphones when they’re playing video games.

Last night, we were trying to get the boys to go to bed, but one of our boys didn’t respond and obey. Seeing us get more agitated, he finally took them off and said, “I couldn’t hear you.”

Tate couldn’t hear us, but he was watching us try to talk to him, he knew we were trying to get his attention. So, we had a discussion about active listening and distraction.

But it did get me thinking … how often am I distracted when I know the Lord wants to speak to me? Do I pick up my phone while doing my Bible study? Do I try to multitask when I read His Word? When the Lord has something to tell me, does He get my undivided attention? Sadly, no. I know He is trying to speak; I just can’t hear Him.

Today, I’m turning off everything that distracts me from hearing the Lord.
