Longing for Security {Week 3, Day 1}

September 28, 2020
“40 Days” by Proverbs 31 Ministries | P31 OBS Study

Hi, ladies! I’m Quanny, and it’s my pleasure to be your study leader for Week 3!

Okay, y’all, quick check-in. How are you doing so far? I pray this study is helping you connect with God and His Word on a deeper level and meeting you right where you are. With that said, let’s get this week started!

This Week’s Longing:
There is nothing like feeling safe. For me, this looks like sleeping soundly without worry or fear. Honest moment? I have a hard time sleeping alone. When my husband is away at night, I usually leave the TV on to help me feel less lonely. His presence helps me feel secure. Can anyone relate?

Friends, as we’ll learn this week, our security can’t be found in people, TVs, locked doors or alarm systems. These areas in which we misplace our trust aren’t truly equipped to provide the sense of security we truly long for. They only offer temporary relief. True security, both physically and spiritually, can only be found in complete surrender to and dependence on the One who holds the world in His hands.

This Week’s Video:
Let’s tune in with our hosts, P31 OBS Manager Kendra Schwarz and First 5 Senior Project Coordinator Hannah Schindler, joined by Joel Muddamalle, director of theological research at Proverbs 31. They discuss the importance of making wise choices when deciding on what and with whom we place our security.

Fun fact: If you haven’t noticed yet, Joel wrote the overall introduction for our study, as well as the introductions to each week’s longing.

If you need instructions for closed captioning or you would like to view the video transcripts instead, we’ve got you covered.

I’m not sure what longing for security looks like for you, but I am prayerful that we will see how that longing is fulfilled in Christ by the end of this week. Let’s begin by checking out the Study at a Glance resource to plan our week together!

Today’s Readings:

  • Week 3, Introduction and Day 1
  • Joshua 1

We’ve got this!

P.S. Tomorrow, my friend and teammate, Angela, will pop in with some great encouragement for your week. Then I’ll be right back with you on Wednesday to finish out the week!

Let’s Chat!

My honest moment was that I find physical security by keeping the TV on when my husband is home away at night. I’d love to hear your honest moment — What people or things have you placed your security in?
