Christmas in November? {Week 1}

November 11, 2019

Hey there!

It's finally here — the day we begin our newest online Bible study, Because of Bethlehem by Max Lucado! I’m Stacy Lowe, your study leader this week.

I know not everyone is ready to jump into Christmas mode just yet, so if that’s you, don’t worry! While the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem is the reason we celebrate, He didn’t stay in the manger, and neither will we! The implications of His coming reach far beyond the holiday season into each and every day of our lives. THAT’S what we’re going to spend these next four weeks learning about. Think of it like a pre-season pep rally to ready our hearts and minds before we hit the real deal in December.

Sound good? Then let’s go!

Each Monday on our blog, we’ll have a video featuring author Max Lucado, along with P31 OBS manager Kendra Schwarz, and senior director of P31 OBS and First 5 Melissa Taylor. In today’s video, we’ll learn some of Max’s holiday favorites, PLUS get a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of our study book. Check it out!

Need instructions to access closed captioning or the video transcript? No problem!

Wasn’t that awesome?

Now, just a couple last things before we send you off into the week...

Memory Verse:
Every Monday, we’ll share a new verse to go along with that week’s book content. Take some time to memorize these verses and let the truths they hold sink into your heart. Our Week 1 verse is Matthew 1:21 NIV:

“She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”

I’d say that’s a truth worth remembering!

Study at a Glance:
Wondering when to expect the next blog post or video, the next installment of OBS Today (or even what that is) or what chapters we’ll be reading each week? The Study at a Glance includes all that and more! Be sure to download this helpful calendar and refer to it often throughout the study. If you’re still waiting on your book, you’ll also find a FREE download of the first week’s chapters. (Thanks, Thomas Nelson!)

STUDY AT A GLANCE

I think we’re all set now, so join us in the comments below, then pull out your book, turn to Chapter 1, and let’s begin!

Let’s Chat:

In today’s video, Max shared how feeling too busy for Bible study is the exact reason we NEED this one. Knowing that, let’s make a plan! What time and where will you do your Bible study each day?

Giveaway!
Each comment on this week’s blogs will enter you for a chance to win a copy of our study book, Because of Bethlehem by Max Lucado, AND the accompanying teaching series, The Miracle and Meaning Behind Advent. FIVE winners will be selected and notified next Monday (November 18) via reply to their comment.
