Hey there, y'all! I'm Stacy Lowe and I'm excited to be with you for Week 2 of our Breathe P31 OBS!
Last week we learned that Sabbath isn't just about not doing. It's about not doing with a meaning and a purpose behind it. Sabbath is a GIFT from God and is a BOUNDARY by which we attain freedom. That alone will PREACH, right? But we're just getting started!
Our Big Idea for Week 2 consists of three simple words:
"Just say no."
While the words may be simple, the execution is often anything BUT. And it's not just us. Even in biblical times, God's people struggled with this idea of ceasing work. That's why in our Verse of the Week, the Lord concludes the instructions given to Moses on the mountaintop by emphasizing the significance of the Fourth Commandment and the place it should hold in their hearts (and ours) — that it should be valued above all else, even the Lord's work:
"Therefore the people of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, observing the Sabbath throughout their generations, as a covenant forever."
Exodus 31:16 (ESV)
That Sabbath covenant is meant to be a sign between us and God that HE HAS OUR TRUST — that He is worthy of being given that place of authority in our lives.
But actually saying "no" in order to make room for Sabbath in our schedules? Not so easy. It CAN be done, though, and that's just what this week is for! So if you're ready, let's go!
