Hey there, fighter, welcome to Round 1 of Fighting Words by Ellie Holcomb!
Just what are fighting words, you may wonder? They’re words we can use to fight back against the darkness of the world around us. More specifically, we’re talking words of Scripture, already promised to be “alive and powerful” and “sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword” (Hebrews 4:12, NLT). Just what we need!
Are you ready to get some fighting words of your own? Then let’s begin.
Today in our books, we’ll start with Day 1, and we’ll continue one day at a time for 100 days, ending on September 7. I know that sounds like a lot, but each day’s reading packs a lot of punch in a bite-size chunk, AND because each can stand alone, if you miss a day here or there, it’s not a problem! Just jump back in where we are, and go back to those days you missed later. (Idea! Download our Study at a Glance and mark off each day as you complete it. Then it’ll be easy to see what you need to go back to later.)
At the end of each day’s reading, you’ll see a few questions from Ellie. I recommend keeping a journal handy for these, because while they’d be easy to skip past, answering these questions will help you plant the message even deeper in your heart AND, better yet, apply it to your life. (If you’d rather write the answers in your book instead, there’s usually space enough for that.)
While each day of study in the book includes a verse or passage, you’ll notice for each 10 days (Day 1, Day 11, etc.) a beautiful verse graphic with a page all its own. These 10 verses are ones we’ll work together to memorize.
Did that m-word just send shivers down your spine? If so, don’t worry! We’re going to do this together.
Our Round 1 memory verse is Philippians 4:4-7, CSB:
“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your graciousness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”
Here is Wendy Blight, our biblical content specialist, with a few tips and tricks to get you started!
We also have a lock screen of our Round 1 passage to help you even more.
And with that, I think we have everything we need to get going. Go ahead and do Days 1-3, and I'll be back to check in with you on Day 4 (Friday, June 3)!
