God Will Never Leave You

June 20, 2022
Round 3 Verse

Woohoo! Here we are for Round 3 of Fighting Words by Ellie Holcomb. I don’t know about you, but I’m proud of us for stepping into the ring and getting stronger as we memorize Scripture together!

I really hope you’re feeling that strength as you encounter tough moments and God reminds you of the verses — our fighting words — that turn dark times into light! Don’t you love it when a verse or part of a verse pops into your head and everything changes? That’s strength, and that feels good!

Have you had a chance to read Day 21 yet? While reading it, I immediately thought about my dog, Rudy. It might sound silly, but when Rudy was a puppy, every morning, when it was time to leave, that little puppy would run and hide! Every single time! I don’t know why he thought he could get away with it! He took the same path and hid in the exact same spot each time, which meant I was on all fours coaxing him out from under the bed every morning, scooping him up, carrying him out the door.

That memory made me shake my head a bit as Ellie’s words on page 55 reminded me of God's promise. She says, “There is nowhere we can run, nowhere we can hide, that is out of the reach of God’s love for us.” Wow! God loves us so much it doesn’t matter where we are — He’s there! I felt like God said to me, “Alicia, it doesn’t matter where you go ... I’m there, and I will find you because I know you so well. I know exactly where you’ll be!”

I need those connections to my everyday life to help me understand and remember the words of Scripture so I can bring them to mind later when I need to whisper — or shout — them to get rid of the craziness.

Here’s our Round 3 verse that captures this promise:

“Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.” (Psalm 139:7-10, NIV)

In today's video, Wendy Blight, our biblical content specialist, is back to share an approach to praying these verses that will help them come alive for us. Check it out:

Keep reading Fighting Words with me. And remember that God is with you anywhere and everywhere you go. Let’s read Days 21-23 and connect here again on Day 24 (Thursday, June 23). Sound good to you?

See you soon,

Alicia
