When Prayer Isn’t My First Reaction

July 23, 2022

How many times throughout this study have you thought to yourself, Ellie wrote this specifically for me!?

That’s how I feel about today’s reading (Day 54)! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been in a situation where instead of praying and handing over my trouble to God, I’ve clung tightly to it, hoping I could control the outcome. I stress over it, talk to my husband about it and even search Google for the answer.

It’s only after exhausting all avenues of control that I finally turn it over to God and pray about it. And when that finally happens, I always ask myself ...

Why didn’t I pray to begin with?

What about you? When facing a difficult situation, what do you do? Are you like me, trying to fix it before praying about it?

I love what Ellie writes in today’s reading about 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18: “When we rejoice, pray, and give thanks, there’s no question or doubt: we’re living in God’s will.”

God always knows what’s best for us. So why is it so hard to turn to Him first? If it’s His will for me to rejoice, pray and give thanks, then not only do I need to read His Word, but I need to apply it in my life. I need to obey God’s Word.

Friend, will you join me and start the day with prayer? Whatever we are facing, let’s hand it over to the Lord!

Have a wonderful weekend, and I’ll see you back here on Day 59 (Thursday).

Hugs,

Missy
