The Heavens Declare

August 15, 2022

Most mornings this summer as I’ve sipped my first cup of coffee, I’ve watched hummingbirds enjoy the flowers hanging on my front porch. From the same view, I’ve seen storms roll in and out, fireflies light up the yard, and bunnies chase each other along the edge of the woods. I’ve heard bullfrogs on a distant pond and marveled at the setting sun each night.

All these wonderful sights from my porch. But there’s more to these things than their beauty. They actively display God’s glory. Today’s verse speaks right to that:

“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them. Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the end of the world.” (Psalm 19:1-4a, NIV)

As I sit on my front porch and listen to what God’s creation says to me, I am reminded that God cares about the little details of my life and that His beauty, in all its detail, is all around me. It’s like Ellie tells us in her devotion today when she talks about the stars: “When you see the stars tonight, let them tell you something about the light and beauty of Christ. Let them remind you that no matter how defeated or bleak your life may feel, there is hope even in our darkest nights …”

I’ll see you again on August 18, when we will wrap up Round 8!

I’m praying for you,

Alicia

If not the sky, do you have a favorite spectacle in nature that reminds you of God’s Truth? What is it? And what about His character does it help you remember? Describe it and explain the wonder of it!
