To Walk With God {Week 1}

Hello! Welcome to our newest study, Flooded by Nicki Koziarz. I’m Alicia Hunter, and I have the privilege of leading you here on the blog the next two weeks.

Doubt is something I’ve struggled with most of my life, so when I first saw the topic of Nicki’s book, I couldn’t wait to dig in! From an early age, I’ve put big-time pressure and expectations on myself about everything from good grades and childhood friendships to marriage and motherhood. When I make choices that don’t meet these impossible standards, I start to wonder...

If I had read more to my daughter, would she like school more? If I had decided not to work outside of the home, would my family be stronger? If I wasn’t a divorced woman, would God love me more?

I can get trapped in these thoughts and begin to doubt what I know is true about God.

Can you relate?

Over the next five weeks together, we’ll study closely the life of Noah and unpack five decisions he made to replace doubt with peace. We’ll explore his actions to see how our peace can come from God.

Are you ready? Let’s get started!

Every week, we’ll have a verse to help you get into God’s Word. You can memorize it, write in your journal or post it somewhere you’ll see often. Our first Verse of the Week comes from Matthew:

For truly I tell you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will tell this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” (Matthew 17:20, CSB)

This verse is changing my thinking! It’s easy to believe that maybe my doubt and insecurities are a result of not having enough faith. But God says it’s not about how much I have! He’s more interested in the quality of my faith than the quantity, and quality begins with Decision 1: To Walk With God.

To help you in that walk is our Weekly Video! Each Monday, Flooded author Nicki Koziarz will join Kendra LeGrand, Senior Manager of the Ministry Studies team, to guide us through our study. And we’ll have a special guest each time who will share their own “Doubt Diary”! This week, Kendra kicks it off by allowing us to peek inside hers.

Here are instructions for accessing closed captioning and video transcripts.

One last thing — each blog for this study will feature a few suggested Next Steps. Remember, though, these are just suggestions! You are welcome to do the study at your own pace.

Next Steps:

  • Read the Introduction and Chapter 1 of Flooded. If you're still waiting on your book, we've got you covered! Here's the reading for Week 1.
  • Check out our Study at a Glance for a birds-eye view of the week.
  • Come back Wednesday for a blog post from special guest Wendy Blight!

I’m looking forward to learning alongside you!
