Bring On the Interruption! {Week 2}

July 5, 2021
“Get Out of Your Head” by Jennie Allen | P31 OBS Week 2 Verse

Hey there — I’m Brandy! It’s no coincidence that I’ll be your study leader this week and next. My thought life can be a hot mess at times, y’all! I’ve been stuck in several spirals of toxic thoughts, too! God is amazing to allow me and you — two imperfect people — to go through this study together.

This week, author Jennie Allen shares the first few steps she takes to shift her toxic thoughts to God’s Truth. What’s more, she shows us how to interrupt those toxic thoughts. Ready to dive in? Me, too!

We’ll be reading Chapters 4-6 of Get Out of Your Head. A suggested reading plan is in the "Next Steps" section at the end of this blog post. However, if your week becomes chaotic, as mine often does, just read the chapters when you can this week. Remember, too, to pray before you read for better understanding.

We’ll be doing three check-in blog posts:

  • Today (what you’re reading right now).
  • Wednesday (including an optional, standalone Bible study lesson).
  • Friday (including the Session 2 teaching video with Jennie Allen).

Our Verses of the Week, which Jennie repeats often to fight her toxic thoughts, are Psalm 139:7-10:

Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol [the grave], you are there! If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me.” (ESV)

In our P31 OBS Video of the Week, author Jennie Allen chats with Kendra LeGrand, the Senior Manager of Ministry Studies. Jennie shares how to move forward in our thought lives despite what the world’s gone through in the past 18 months.

See you back here on Wednesday!
