The Wrestle Is Real

Hi there!

There are so many nuggets of wisdom bouncing around in my mind. The image of wrestling well between two gardens will forever be embedded in my mind.

Feelings of disappointment are unavoidable. We’ll face them countless times this side of heaven. But when we acknowledge those feelings in light of God’s bigger plan, we’ll encounter Him in such incredible ways.

As Lysa says in chapter one,

“God knows before we eternally dwell we will have to learn to wrestle well.”

Wrestling is exhausting. It takes practice, endurance and strategy. There will be times we feel pinned down by the weight of our opponent with no hope of release. But our enemy doesn’t stand a chance against the strength of our God and the hope we have in Him. So let’s take these three F’s and use them to wrestle well against the enemy:

  • Feelings: Acknowledge our feelings that things should be better than they are
  • Forward: Remember that sometimes our disappointments are just what we need to move forward
  • Faith: Let faith lead the way, keeping an eternal perspective

In the midst of discouragement and defeat, we can cling to the promise that the Lord will be with us (Isaiah 43:1-3), and take heart knowing, “In the new Eden we won’t need to wrestle well, because we will be well.” But until then, let’s wrestle well.
