Hi, friends!
“Joy to the world — the Lord has come!”
This popular Christmas song plays on the local radio station year after year, and I sing along with it, but I don’t process the words because I know it so well.
While listening to it today, however, this line in the third verse caught my attention: “Let every heart prepare Him room.”
When we prepare room for Jesus in our hearts, we will have the joy that only Christ can give us.
In Week 1, I shared about my father passing away unexpectedly two years ago on Christmas day. Being the sole heir of his estate, I unfortunately inherited a mess. Lawsuits were filed by companies who wanted the money they were owed, but my father’s estate didn’t have the funds to cover it all. I had a choice to make: I could continue to live with the stress of the mess, or I could find joy in Jesus.
I chose joy in Jesus.
“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” (Romans 12:12, NIV)
Handing over the stress of the estate situation to Him shifted my focus from my circumstances to His joy. Light replaced darkness. Peace replaced chaos. Jesus felt so very near.
This Christmas season, let’s prepare room for Jesus in our hearts. Let’s hand over our worries and circumstances and be joyful in Him because joy is only found in Jesus!
Blessings,
Missy
