Are Your Thoughts Against You?

Hey friend! Welcome to Day 3 of Why Her? I’m so glad you’re here!

I’m Anna Currin, one of your study leaders for Why Her?, and I have a question for you...

"Do you ever feel like your own thoughts are against you?"

Perhaps you’re like me, and you’re continuously battling thoughts like:

  • You’ll never be “that” type of mom
  • You’re not qualified to do the big things for God
  • You'll never have it as together as others

Or maybe these aren’t thoughts you battle, but you find other types of lies sneaking into your mind.

Either way, whatever destructive thoughts we believe, when we let them take root they can begin to enslave us. And it’s then that we have to stop and determine the source of these thoughts.

The truth is, these “we’ll never measure up, never be good enough” thoughts are lies straight from Satan. And lies begin to take root when we allow comparison and envy to direct our thoughts rather than Truth. This is why I love what Nicki shares in Chapter 1 of Why Her?:

“Because truth, like always, will set us free. And free women don’t need to measure up to anybody.”

So, what do we do when the lies begin to creep in?

We look to His Truth — to what GOD says about us.

Truths like:

  • God handpicked me to be my children’s mother (Jeremiah 1:5)
  • God will equip me for whatever He calls me to (Hebrews 13:21)
  • God doesn’t expect worldly perfection; He calls me to love Him and love others (Mark 12:30-31)

Friend, when we saturate our minds in Truth, we can be freed from our self-inflicted expectations and find peace in His presence! So let’s celebrate this freedom today, as we begin to take our focus off of the world around us, and start to direct our eyes to His Truth.

Reflect and Respond:

What’s one lie you're kicking to the curb today with Truth?
