How are things going so far this week for you? Are you hanging in there or having a bit of trouble keeping up? Wherever you are, believe it’s right where you’re supposed to be. It’s all good!
Speaking of “right where you’re supposed to be,” can I let you in on a little secret? I have a love-hate relationship with the phrase “bloom where you’re planted.” It’s not that it’s a bad phrase. It’s actually very encouraging. Where I get stuck is the “where you’re planted” part.
I have to wonder how our biblical comparison duo, Rachel and Leah, would’ve lived their lives had they bloomed where they were planted instead of always trying to outdo each other. I bet it was exhausting to continually wage the “I’ll show her" war.
It would be easy to look at their lives and think, “These gals were a hot mess!” But we can all probably say we've been there at some point, too. Especially when our circumstances don't quite line up how we think they should.
Typically, when life gets to this point, we do what Rachel and Leah did; we take matters into our own hands. But, what if we chose a different approach? What if we changed our perspective?
Just like Rachel and Leah had choices, we do too. Although life isn't always fair and our circumstances can get messy, we have a choice as to how we sit in our messes. Why Her? author, Nicki Koziarz, hit the nail on the head when she wrote:
“Because when our circumstances don’t change, we only have two choices: settle and pout, or shift and praise.”
Yes! I love that! Let's be women who choose to "shift and praise." And if you don’t know where to begin, perhaps put on some worship music or spend time in the Word. The book of Psalms is a great place to start.
Reflect and Respond:
What’s your favorite way to “shift and praise?”
